  1. Morning all, I have to juggle auntie duties with the weather today - any idea if the storm risk is morning or afternoon today?. Don't fancy being caught outdoors in the storm with the little ones. edit:ignore, I hear thunder already.
  2. The rumbling on thunder here is constant - and temps have dropped from 34 to 23 in an hour - amazing.
  3. Rain and semi-distant thunder from out of nowhere! The petrichor is unreal!
  4. Henley has the lightning symbol on the Meto app! 33.6.c and unbearable. This is just to my north.
  5. Not for me in Wycombe unforch..although Liam Dutton on Twitter just said "I think the first showers and thunderstorms will probably pop up in the London area from around 4pm onwards". Nowcasting I think!
  6. This photo is south west...but there are now similar to my SE and NE.
  7. Morning! I've coped ok so far in this heatwave - but last night I couldn't sleep because of the heat (and now I have a a jackhammer outside my window all day ) - so I'll be coffee dependent all day! Quite a lot going on to my SW already. Really hoping we get lucky in terms of storms in the next few days, I have a scorched allotment in need of a downpour.
  8. Quite a comfortable night in the end as it dipped below 20.c. I love sunny, warm weather but when you live in a flat, it's hard to really enjoy it or get cool. So I'm hoping for storms now.
  9. Meto getting the thunderstorm warnings in early for Monday and Tuesday. UK weather warnings WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Met Office UK weather warnings for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice. Choose your location to keep up to date with local weather warnings.
  10. Quite fed up of the mediocre weather to be honest. I'm not a fan of heatwaves, but I also hate dull, dark summer days with drizzle. And my allotment is in need of some sunny days.
  11. Sorry to be a mardypants but....it's too bloomin windy!! lots of 45 degree gladioli - not happy. And my hat blew off and flew over the fence.
  12. 28.5.c and rising fast, can see something bubbling in the distance to the SW of here.
  13. Humidity unbearable, had to down tools. Every other cloud looks like it's climbing in height. it's going to be an interesting afternoon.
  14. Doing a bit of batch cooking today which means I'm in front of the kitchen window all the time...in the last hour is gone from sunny to tower clouds! Somewhere will get some fun later.
  15. Holy heck...I was under that white dot half an hour ago when it passed over Beaconsfield...I was in Sainsburys and the rain was biblical and the noise it made on the roof was unbelievable! Flash flooding all the way home and some very soggy shopping! Didn't hear any thunder. ..and it's still raining!
  16. Lightning has struck a house in nearby Bourne End, fire brigade put it out pretty quick, some big scary fork lightning out there apparently (I'm in a valley with tall trees either side of the building so it's hard to see any sky).
  17. 6 strikes in quick succession and heavy rain now...just as I've come back from watering my allotment!! Strikes less than a mile now and I can feel the vibrations under my feet!
  18. Heavy rain and thunder! 6 strikes so far! And a blackbird singing his head off in the middle of it!
  19. Watching the snooker from Milton Keynes and you can hear the thunder over the commentary! It'e too windy for this time of year, we've got so much damage at the allotment because of it.
  20. Top tip from the couple on the neighbouring plot to mine who have had there allotment for 30 years - if there is a frost due, simply bury your potato plants in soil by dragging earth up around them, a sort of exaggerated version of earthing up. The plants will burst back though in a day or two. Works every time for us. Seedlings are a tricky one but many people wait until June 1st to plant seedlings out, myself included. However, if they are looking a bit pot-bound - around the 20th May, look at the next 7/10 day forecast . If there's no very cold nights due and the seedling are large - plant out. even then you might get caught out so have a cloche handy, even if it's just a folded out plastic bag weighed down by stones. I'm usually really careful with frosts - but even I lost a dahlia a few nights ago
