  1. it seems some people questioned LLWA claim of 14 inches , well if here is near sutton he is telling the truth
  2. well amazing , not sure how to measure the the depth but measuring the snow that has built up on the patio table it is a mind boggling 12 inches . im in sutton slighty elevated . walked upto suooton train station and back , chaos on the roads and where the snow drifted it was just below my knees (im 5ft9) .......amazing this is better then FEB 91 and we have frontal snow to come !!!
  3. think they will round 3am but if the wind changes slighty then the snow showers will move more into kent
  4. getting the camera all charged up , got save this one for the scrap book !!!!!
  5. here in sutton ( about ten mins drive from banstead & 20 epsom downs) it just gets better and better................................ started just ater 6 pm and i say we are up to at least 4 inches now............... to thinkwe have a frontal system to come one word for those communting to work (chaos) ...... glad im off tomorrow /tuesday i have waited since feb 91 for this and the rolercoaster ride the GFS has taken us on finally we have a snow event !!!
  6. think your right paul the wind is defo in the wrong direction at mo ....... reminds me of dec 2005 when kent got a hammering and we got sweet fa . i have a east facing garden yet all the clouds are moving in a southerly direction rather than going across my house ....... if this carries on i think we may have to rethink totals for london and west of london for tonight and wait for the band tomorrow. tense time
  7. where abouts in SW london? nothing here in sutton since early afternoon
  8. does anyone know whether it will fall as powder snow or wet snow?
  9. if this pans out in the next 36 hrs as the models suggest then we shuld see the most snow since 1991 here in london ( more than the thames streamer of jan 2003, thunder snow 2004 and the easterly of 2005) it may not be as severe in length or actually cold temps as Feb 91 but its been a heck of a wait i mean 19 bloody years............ and to think over the last 7 years from bbc snow watch to this forum the amount of times our hopes have been cruely dashed. well here in sutton i cant wait . i may take a trip to the downs tomorrow or banstead but what ever the week pans out or if we get those ECM T168 from yesterday to verify enjoy this snow and if you have kids take a sickie from work and enjoy it with the kids as the next time you may be in your 60's !!!!!
  10. funny enough i was born in clapham and now live in sutton so like you im expecting heavy rain when 20 miles north it be blizzards !!! also that few cm's the other week was a surprise and i dont expect lying snow again this season but fingers cross . this really will go down the wire and subtle changes over the next 48 hr will determine if we are all smiles or resigned to the usual missed out/ so close . bearing in mind 91 was the last snow event in london we are due something and how ironic that we may get something in one of the mildest winter season. everything to play for !!!
  11. to be fair living in sutton , london I was more than happy waking up wednesday morning to a few cm's considering last yr we had nothing expect one heavy shower on the 26/12/05 which is remarkable considering how much colder last season winter was !!! all in all in this era of climate heating any snow cover in london is a joy
  12. Cheers for that , reading the charts wouldnt you agree it was an unsual set up? looks like a scandi high feeding winds in from East causing a low pressure of cold air but the low preesure doesnt look that deep .
  13. First post on the forum although I have been a regular ...... very impress from the inputs of Murr , TWS, Ian Brown , Stratos and many others. I am London born and bred so my recollection of snowy winters is different from those from other parts of the country . The last truely snowy event in London was Feb 1991 and what Iam interested in if there a web site or if some has a copy of the maps that shows the set up for that event. The reason being is that I always remember Michael Fish gave the forecast and what caused all the snow for the SE was what he called a " kink "which developed over Germany and fed over the UK. Is this right and if so was this an highly unsual event. Sad to say say that we had to wait to Jan 2003 before we had the next biggest snow fall ( i know it snowed in between then but im talking more than a dusting !!!) and this year blizzard was amazing for its energy (although all too short lived!!) If anyone can put flesh to bones I really appreciate it. Happy snow chasing and lets pray there is something more exciting this season than this usual boring mild crap we get now days
