Well you guys are winning to tug of war currently. Your snow is coming thick and fast in the south and sw of the region
We currently have heavy rain and sleet although the essex contingent are pulling hard and are reporting snow.
Enjoy, looks as though wales hit the jackpot though with 40cm in some hilly parts...
As i type im on the turn with driving sleet..
Fingers crossed it quickly turns to snow and you get a good pasting down there.
-
Could late March become the new early December.
-
Machu the fact you live u the top of a hill may skew your opinion. If you look at most of the reports unless your highish up in the sw of the region then its dry or the odd flurry.
Luckily i dont mind the banter
I always read your posts in the Model Thread so i've seen you dont mind the banter, i've also seen you take some serious group abuse for having a different
outlook to most in the thread based on their optimism for an Easterly chance way out in FI. You kept your cool much better than i would in that situation, especially when
the models didn't materialise.
I do actually agree with you, the reports from members on here are stating no snow or no settling snow and even non event reports, Penistone seems to always be
a good location when theres a chance of snow in the region.

I can see the flashing amber lights of a gritter plough on top of the hills on the Halifax Road and its crawling along, not the usual
lunatic gritter driving. The Sheffield Road is covered now the traffic has suddenly become non exsistent, now everyones home from work
i doubt many will venture out in this.
It seems like the heaviest ppn will be from approx 10pm to 3am with totals up to 1.5 - 2.0cm an hour.
Its already at roughly the same amount as we had on Jan21st which was the best snow of the season with lying snow on the ground from
2 events, 19th and 21st.
Its seriously heavy now that dark patch on the radar has just landed.
-
Temp 0.2c, dew -1.1c, good for settling snow so I am none the wiser as to why it isn't settling.
Thats strange mate, you got some altitude there as well. I can see why you're non the wiser.
Is L&B Airport still functioning or have they shut it down?
-
Still crap here, I'll see what it's like in a few hours because I'm getting bored now, and if nothing has settled then, I'll just presume that this entire thing is a non-event.
Hopefully things will pick up now the daylight has all but gone, whats your temp like up there?
-
I wonder if Steve Murr is enjoying the heavy rain down his neck of the woods, it could be worse though, he could be snowed in
with blizzards like we are.
-
This is getting bizarre, --1.0C, heavy snow, the main Sheffield road is covered, wheelie bins close to imploding under the weight and the METO still have it heavy until tomorrow aft.
-
had a heavy snow shower now back to pellets but its going very dark so heres hoping round 2 is coming!

Its just turned dark here and its now very heavy with bigger medium sized flakes
-
WoWzers, we got a blizzard, that dark patch on the radar just landed with heavy snow and high winds
If it stayed like this for a couple of hours we'd be in serious trouble
-
Heavyish snow again here, dont know where that appeared from on the radar but it wasn't there 90mins ago. It'll keep us ticking over until
Snowmageddon gets here
-
never been there in my life lol
You're kidding me, its one of the gems of Britain. Growing up in Lincoln we had the choice as kids of Skeggy or Mabo or Spurn and we always chose Spurn, theres no
arcades of flashing lights, theres actually nothing there but nature but its always an adventure, plus its cool having the North Sea one side, then walk over the dunes and the calmer
estuary is on the other side. The old concrete bunkers that were lookouts from the wars are cool, they're just sat on the dunes.
-
to add.. as crosses the pennines its forced up wards by the undercutting freezing air/wind... comming from south east. hence big precip totals.
going to be some lovely colours on the radar later.
i like the "ear" we go shape on met office warning page.
Bloody hell Bryan, you're getting a bit technical and scientific for my tired brain to comprehend, i'll see if i can make more sense of it when
i wake up, probably not though, i'll just watch the pretty colourful pictures on the radar like usual oblivious to the science behind them.
-
From what I can see I think that the second front you can see coming up from the SW hits up against the first front that is stalling now, then the whole thing rotates and comes back south.
I see what you mean Alan, also explains the 24hrs of constant snowfall, going to be interesting watching it pan out tonight. Cheers buddy.
-
Still snowing nicely here, --0.2C and no dripping from anywhere as of yet.
I'm going to get a couple of hrs kip and wake up just in time for the second band to finish us off, i got a feeling its
going to be a long good night.
-
Looking at the radar its hard to see where the METO are coming from but with all their knowledge and available resources i'm sure they have much more of a clue than
us just looking at a radar animation. We'll just have to wait and watch it all pan out, i'm confident they know what they're on with cus it will be a major balls up if they get it
wrong at such short notice.
I sense a bit of negativity creeping in the forum.
-
I.m looking at that nice amber reversed C shape on the METO's forecast and reading 20-40cm over the hills from 14:00 to 06:00.
Theres already 6" on my wheelie bin and its still coming down.
Pistols@Dawn
Its nice that the Southerners are dropping by to see where all their snow went.
-
For your altitude where you would have a settling ratio of at least 90%, probably about 16" snow
So 1mm of rainfall = 10mm of snow roughly? 16" of snow in winter is Epic, in late March its a bit freaky.
Flake size is slowly increasing, the best thing is theres no thawing at all, not even the odd drip.
-
Latest NAE is way better for west yorkshire, I'm now under 20mm accumulated precipitation
maybe even 25mm
I'm just in the slightly darker blue patch underneath, looks like it says 36mm. What does that equate too in snow terms?
-
14cm on the wheelie bin and still --0.4C. i cant believe that 3wks ago i was riding the trail in shorts and a t-shirt and i made a comment on here about
how i was glad winters over and we have the sun to look forward too. As usual i called it completely wrong.
I hope it stalls now as its absolutely hammering it down, the flake size has increased a little too.
-
Haha I like your style, that reminds me, certainly need to stock up on some easter eggs
Nows the time to get your eggs, the supermarkets are more or less giving them away, they're so cheap they're restricting how many you can buy.
Wise move cus i saw the guy who owns a local garage with a trolley full and he's now got a nice egg display in the shop.
-
Here in hull we have cloud and thats about it! Typical hull weather really. And later we will get very light snow if we are lucky, its really frustrating living here as all this winter the most we have had is about 5cm when places a few miles away get lots .
But you've got Spurn Point, i'd trade Penistone snow for summer days at Spurn.
-
What a days weather for late march, buzzing!
Will be off for a treck up the otley chevin (950ft) shortly to get the full snow experience, then after to the shop to stock up on lots of beers and nice food, then just sit back and enjoy the carnage unfold
Panic buying down the booze aisle whilst everyone else is fighting over bread, milk and spaghetti hoops.
I've got a cupboard full of buy one get one free Easter eggs and a bottle of fireball so am sorted.
-
If it doesn't stall very soon we'll be in the clear in an hour

Theres a good foot of snow on the wheelie bin, i dont think 2010's 48cm of lying snow is under threat but that was the total result of 2 nights snowfall, although if
it continues like this it could be very interesting in the morning.
--1.0C, the ploughs and gritters have failed to keep the main road clear but theres still a few cars crawling along.
