  1. By stating that early January is Autumn reveals just how ridiculous a statement it is let alone calling this an average December!

I think he meant autumnal (i would hope he did anywayPosted Image ) I never expect anything out of December, IMO it tends to be an uninspiring start to winter (from a cold

lovers perspective) A mixed month with a bit of allsorts, chilly, mild, some frosts, sunny spells, foggy, windy, rainy, i keep hearing that this December is mild but my heating

keeps going on and also my hat and gloves as its chilly in the wind and feels much colder than what the thermometer tells me.

Looking back to growing up in Lincoln in the 80's, the sun blazing through the window on Xmas day reflecting off the telly and eating Xmas dinner in a t shirt

feeling too hot. Snow usually came between the end of Jan to mid March but not guranteed, i remember some snowless winters and also some epic cold spells with snow

on the ground for weeks which feels like an eternity as a kid. Lincolns not the greatest place for snow though, especially compared to my current location.

The last few years have given us epic early and late events (Dec 2010 and March 2013) Were they one offs or the new norm? For me, as always once we get into the second week

of Jan i'll start expecting some proper cold winter weather and if we hit Feb without any sign of it i'll start getting anxious. (memories of 2011/2012 are still raw)

Whatever the stats show for this December, to me its been nothing out of the ordinary and has produced nothing that i wouldn't expect from the first month of winter whereas Dec 2010

was something i've not experienced before (or since) so could it be classed as a freak event?

  2. Thanks a lot chaps, much appreciated.

I really dont want to use the ignore option, everyone is entitled to their opinion but the bickering and one up attempts are seriously annoying at the minute. Im

a total noob but learning a lot from both coldies and mildies, the reality posts showing what we have and also the posts explaining options and scenarios that

    could lead to cold.

I know its frustrating for many at present but seeing the aggro posts puts members in my position off from posting in the mod thread, its a scary place full of

knowledge, intelligence, experience and ego which is daunting enough without seeing that the wolves also bite.

Just in case anyone has blocked this guy ;p

  3. Pointless model watching until the new year at least if you want extreme cold weather.

Why do the mild fanatics keep posting endless reams of useless charts that consume unnecessary bandwidth.

There should be a restriction on number of charts people can post. Maximum 4.

I wonder what the record is for number of people on ignore list? I have 3 pages worth of ignores. Posted Image

Got to agree with you ther CiB, i look to see if Steve Murr's posting and if he's not then nothings happening, it only takes a sniff for him to appear, no SM, no sniffs.

How do i use the ignore option? I could quite easilly fill a couple of pages at present.

  4. In the model thread even if every model is showing wind, mild and rain as far as the eye can see, the talk is still dominated by cold and snow and looking for any tiny hints and tenuous potential. I love cold and snow as much as most, would love nothing more than a deep freeze and a some blizzards, but there's so much more to our crazy varied climate. If the charts show a cold snowy spell then by all means get excited by that, but it seems many people miss out on a lot of our rich fascinating weather by hunting cold and snow to the exclusion of everything else 24/7.

So focused on the pot of gold they miss the wonder and beauty of the rainbow.

  5. Ouch, --38C average today, thats just too cold for me.

I've been in Prague at --20C, if you stopped moving then you felt it nipping.

  6. Well, there doesn't seem to be and "cold" anywhere near the British Isles at the moment, and the rest of December seems decidedly mild. The lunchtime weather forecast mentioned there was very little snow on the Alps, so anyone booking an early ski trip is likely to be very disappointed. Moscow's the only place with any significant cold.I hate to be pessimistic, but once the weather gets itself into this kind of pattern it can be very hard to shift.

Thats the thing Peter, everyone on the model thread knows this, its not like the coldies are kidding themselves, its obvious what the models are showing and how bad its looking from a cold

perspective, they're not in denial, they're looking for signs and discussing possibilities and options that would need to happen to bring colder options but other members are jumping on them with smarmy sniping

remarks which are stating the obvious that everyone can see for themselves.

Without the coldies ever optimistic searching the model thread would be dead at present.

  7. Amazing scenes for late March! The extra daylight really is the only reminder we are not in the middle of winter.

The radar seems to be pepping up a bit now. Some heavier showers beginning to push in off the North Sea...

Snowing here now, only fine stuff but its coming down nicely and has put a dusting on the bin already.

I'm so tired i forgot about checking the radar, just had a look and theres some nice sized echo's heading our way shortly.

  8. This is cow field over the road, i usually take the dog on here but i've been going over the back as i thought it would be better. I was shocked to see that the snow was untouched,

footprints went up to the stile but none had braved it. In Dec 2010 it was up to my knees, i stepped off the stile and it was up my thighs, i tried to walk out but only got about 10 meters

and it was up to my waist, it was impossible, the snow is frozen and heavy going, i could walk on the top of it for a few seconds then sank in. Up the hill theres a lot of dips and tracks

so i bet in places it would almost bury me. Its eerily deep and out of bounds on foot without snow shoes.

At least i was the first to christen it.

  9. Walked the 3/4mile home from work in Oxspring today at 5pm and took a few pics.

Where Oxspring meets Penistone on the Sheffield Road, i live 1/4mile further down. This is the path, the buried stone wall is waist height and the houses start just round the bend.

    hope you druel lol!

Defo worth the trip out then, its mad how you can drive a few miles out of town and be in a completely different world. A mate sent me some pics from the back

roads over the tops behind here between Oxspring and Cubley, it was the same scene, its all open fields and hills with drifts blocking the roads.

The ploughs and JCB's have been opening them up today and last night. Its crazy for the end of March.

Beautiful Wolf, i mean dog. Cool pics mate, thanks for sharing them with us.

A stupid question is the one that is not asked.....(except for this one of course!!!)....

  11. i will give it a go,cheers,

i am thinking of heading up kinderscout(peak district)over the easter hols,if i can get up there lol!

    very light snow flurries here.

That sounds like an adventure, hopefully the weather stays as it is for you.

I'm looking East out the window over your way and i can see the orange sky approaching, hope we get a few showers.

Give us a shout if you get stuck with the resizing, its pretty simple though when you get to it so you'll work it out good.gif

  12. Hey,Machu, been your way today, through thurgoland, some lovely snow drifts extending out on the A629

before that,i took a trip up woodhead rd,and it was blocked,i couldn't get more than say a few hundred yards from the A616,so me and my mate plus dog went on foot further up the rd,and it was a spectacular afternoon with the winds blowing horizontal creating there several foot drifts across the road, worth the drive up there,

i took some pics but i cannot upload them cos the sizes are too largesorry.gif ,how can i reduce the size of the images, help much appreciated.

Open the photo with Microsoft paint, click on resize then lower the percentage until its 2mb or less, you can also reduce the pixels but its much easier leaving it on percentage as it reduces

the pic as it is without stretching or squashing.

I thought it would be a bit crazy up there, it always is up Thurgoland, its all really open up there so the drifts can be massive, round here we have to go up on the hills and fields to see the

good stuff. Glad you enjoyed it mate, look forward to seeing your pics.

  13. For the zillionth time people. There wont be any showers. Iv said numerous times today to check the radar with the projected rainfall and there is a marked difference. Its not Rocket science, and I wish people would use common sense and a bit of scientific deduction instead of hopecasting...ARGHHH rant over,

rofl.gifrofl.gif You're obviously not too familiar with the snow loving coldies mentality, all it takes is a sniff to get the juices flowing, even when everything says no snow, the faintest glimmer from even

a semi reputable source is enough to throw any rational thinking out the window.

Its no different to the coldies in the model thread who see an Easterly chance deep into FI, t240+ and it gets them all excited, even though they know it wont materialise they cant help it and it destroys

them when the models taketh it away.

Its a form of mental illness we have and the reason we're all on Prozac. The good thing is it keeps us on here talking away til the early hours, if we didn't hope we wouldn't be here as much, also it

gives you something to rant about so we're all winning. clapping.gif
