  1. Bloody hell mate, thats one hell of a night shift, especially for a weekend. I've been into work this morning from 9am to 10.30am to prep some material ready for the morning, and i thought that was bad enough. Looks like the Penistone snow magnet is in full effect as it sounds like its raining all around us.
  2. You're not wrong, i love it here, time and again we have snow when everywhere around us gets rain, especially Barnsley 6 miles away. I can see a bit of Sunday afternoon drive snow tourism coming our way. If thats not jinxed it i dont know what will, although its really heavy now at 0.2C.
  3. 0.0C here, moderate/light snow for a couple of hours now settling on all but roads where its slushy, snow seems a bit on the wet side at present.
  4. Now we've got proper snow, this will do until the good stuff gets here later this evening. Nice pic DS, very good.
  5. Fine snizzle started here, temp dropped quickly with it too, feels really cold now.
  6. The METO auto local predictions are basically useless until they get within a few hours but once in sight of the event i've found them pretty spot on which is no good for a next day forecast, but as another tool to help gauge the way things are are shaping up a few hours ahead they have their uses.
  7. I know what you mean vizzy, every METO page contradicts the others, i'm just sticking with the Penistone predictions as they've been pretty accurate with them this past month, as a rough guide anyway. The radar and lamp post cant be beaten though.
  8. 2.0C here, was 2.9C at 7pm so its dropping very slowly. The METO have changed again for here, yesterday it was all heavy snow, today its been showing all light snow but they've returned some of the heavy again for 09:00, 12:00, 18:00 and 21:00. We shall soon find out.
  9. Heavy rain with a bit of snow mixed in, it was nice while it lasted...........
  10. Ouch, thats bad news, it'll be over here shortly too. 2.2C now so looks like the clean ups on its way.
  11. Its stopped snowing now and the temp instantly climbed to 1.5C from 0.1C when the front cleared. Radar shows a heavy patch of ppn approaching the neighbourhood, hopefully the temps will drop with it. There looks to be some intense angry patches amongst it too. Bet it falls as rain now.
  12. Still snowing here, been non stop for the last couple of hours, it gets brighter and almost stops, then turns dull and picks up again with some really heavy large flaked showers. A heavy spell is just starting again now, temp 0.2C with a horrific windchill, even got mini icicles hanging from the wheelie bin. Seems weird that its past 4pm yet its still daylight, was only a couple of weeks ago that it was dark more or less at 4pm..
  13. Its always been a great snow trap up here, a mate at work lives in Elsecar, on many occasions he's woken up to rain but when he gets to Hoylandswain Hill it turns to snow. When coming from Huddersfield the Sovereign garage seems to be the usual turning point from rain to snow. I've had many nights in Tarn where its been raining/sleety, when the taxi gets to the outskirts of Penistone the ground turns white. 0.1C here and still snowing, had a good few inches with full snow cover apart from the cleared main roads. Forecast to turn to rain around tea time.
  14. From blue sky to heavy snow in a couple of minutes, 4-5cm here so far, its hammering it down.
  15. I got caught out this afternoon too, heavy horizontal rain and hail, i was only in it for approx 3minutes and it felt like i was getting beaten up. Got in the house and was soaked, even me boxers were soaked.
  16. This is ace, temps up and down like Jordans pants, 0.6C to 1.4C, snow to sleety rain then back to snow with lightening and thunder a couple of seconds later. Looking promising for later through the night.
  17. 0.7C and thundersnow blizzard, theres a light wet covering starting on the path and cars.
  18. METO have Penistone labelled for heavy snow from midnight to midday Tuesday, 3am to 9am on an amber warning. The best part is, i'm on nights this week too. Been having a sleety showers today, its grim out there in that wind.
  19. February 12th 0700hrs. Snow will be so deep you'll struggle to get out the backdoor to make a pile.
  20. Looks like it could be another bad week for TESCO. After the recent debacle with the horse meat burgers, tests have now found that their Welsh lamb contains human DNA.
  21. Same here, cant believe it went so quickly, just drifts and hard pack remain. Never seen so many mole hills on the park over the road. I'm a cold lover but enjoying the bright sun and blue sky.
  22. Weird weather, Just had a sleet blizzard roll in on high winds, could see it charging across the hills.
  23. Just read this in the model thread, posted by two learned and very knowledgeable NW members shortly after midnight. LomondSnowstorm commented. The evolution has a very similar look about it to the last two cold spells over the winter, with low heights digging southeast into Europe and ridging in the mid Atlantic north-northeastwards. With the next stratospheric downwelling set to hit and some favourable tropospheric background signals (along with the general late winter PV weakening), the potential is there for another cold spell with perhaps more convincing blocking in place than the other two so far. Still very much a case of wait and see though, but it's positive that we're sniffing the scent of another cold shot just hours after a fortnight long cold spell. Panayiotis replied. Yes some favourable signals for another cold spell, I remember back in early Jan/late Dec when I thought to myself that we could be looking at a cold spell giving what the models were showing, and then on the 15th we were in the freezer! I have the same feeling now that I felt before so something maybe brewing! All in FI of course but encouraging that the models are hinting at pattern changes instead of the default zonal set-up like they did after the failed easterly chance in December.
