  1. Just past Wortley at Wharncliffe Woods, it'll be fun for you over there, take a drive down the road to Thurgoland, they always get it a bit worse than we do. There'll be some nice drifting out near the woods as its open, i bet they're thigh deep, maybe even waist deep in places. I hope the ploughs been down Woodhead Road for you, enjoy your sledging.
  2. Whats your take on proceedings now HC ? Whats the front going to do next and what position will it put our region in?
  3. Its crazy that you're only 5-6miles away from here yet theres at least a foot on the wheelie bin and its been snowing constantly since 3am Fri morning.
  4. Thats why i've not bothered measuring, it wouldn't be a true gauge as everywhere you put the measure it gives a different result and obviously the best result will be chosen as the total snowfall. I just use a rough estimate on the wheelie bin lid for a gauge, a proper rainfall gauge is needed in these conditions.
  5. Theres a good foot of snow on the wheelie bin, i dont think 2010's 48cm of lying snow is under threat but that was the total result of 2 nights snowfall, although if it continues like this it could be very interesting in the morning. --1.0C, the ploughs and gritters have failed to keep the main road clear but theres still a few cars crawling along.
  6. Fingers crossed it quickly turns to snow and you get a good pasting down there.
  7. I always read your posts in the Model Thread so i've seen you dont mind the banter, i've also seen you take some serious group abuse for having a different outlook to most in the thread based on their optimism for an Easterly chance way out in FI. You kept your cool much better than i would in that situation, especially when the models didn't materialise. I do actually agree with you, the reports from members on here are stating no snow or no settling snow and even non event reports, Penistone seems to always be a good location when theres a chance of snow in the region.
  8. I can see the flashing amber lights of a gritter plough on top of the hills on the Halifax Road and its crawling along, not the usual lunatic gritter driving. The Sheffield Road is covered now the traffic has suddenly become non exsistent, now everyones home from work i doubt many will venture out in this. It seems like the heaviest ppn will be from approx 10pm to 3am with totals up to 1.5 - 2.0cm an hour. Its already at roughly the same amount as we had on Jan21st which was the best snow of the season with lying snow on the ground from 2 events, 19th and 21st. Its seriously heavy now that dark patch on the radar has just landed.
  9. Thats strange mate, you got some altitude there as well. I can see why you're non the wiser. Is L&B Airport still functioning or have they shut it down?
  10. Hopefully things will pick up now the daylight has all but gone, whats your temp like up there?
  11. I wonder if Steve Murr is enjoying the heavy rain down his neck of the woods, it could be worse though, he could be snowed in with blizzards like we are.
  12. This is getting bizarre, --1.0C, heavy snow, the main Sheffield road is covered, wheelie bins close to imploding under the weight and the METO still have it heavy until tomorrow aft.
  13. Its just turned dark here and its now very heavy with bigger medium sized flakes
  14. WoWzers, we got a blizzard, that dark patch on the radar just landed with heavy snow and high winds If it stayed like this for a couple of hours we'd be in serious trouble
  15. Heavyish snow again here, dont know where that appeared from on the radar but it wasn't there 90mins ago. It'll keep us ticking over until Snowmageddon gets here
  16. You're kidding me, its one of the gems of Britain. Growing up in Lincoln we had the choice as kids of Skeggy or Mabo or Spurn and we always chose Spurn, theres no arcades of flashing lights, theres actually nothing there but nature but its always an adventure, plus its cool having the North Sea one side, then walk over the dunes and the calmer estuary is on the other side. The old concrete bunkers that were lookouts from the wars are cool, they're just sat on the dunes.
  17. Bloody hell Bryan, you're getting a bit technical and scientific for my tired brain to comprehend, i'll see if i can make more sense of it when i wake up, probably not though, i'll just watch the pretty colourful pictures on the radar like usual oblivious to the science behind them.
  18. I see what you mean Alan, also explains the 24hrs of constant snowfall, going to be interesting watching it pan out tonight. Cheers buddy.
  19. Still snowing nicely here, --0.2C and no dripping from anywhere as of yet. I'm going to get a couple of hrs kip and wake up just in time for the second band to finish us off, i got a feeling its going to be a long good night.
  20. Looking at the radar its hard to see where the METO are coming from but with all their knowledge and available resources i'm sure they have much more of a clue than us just looking at a radar animation. We'll just have to wait and watch it all pan out, i'm confident they know what they're on with cus it will be a major balls up if they get it wrong at such short notice. I sense a bit of negativity creeping in the forum.
