  1. Hit a heavier patch here, i cant see the hills approx 200m in front of me and the main Sheffield road is a mix of snow and slush.
  2. White over in Penistown, a nice winter wonderland, in Spring. 0.1C and steady snowfall. Started off as sleety balls, 2.0C about 4am then turned to snow a couple of hours ago.
  3. Its finally snowing here, not had a flake all weekend but it got here in the end. Biggish wet flakes with no chance of settling, its just soaking the ground.
  4. Woke up to 3cm on the wheelie bin, very light fine snow until an hour ago and now the suns shining through. Theres a slow melt with icicles forming, its bloody cold and the wind picking up is making it feel colder. Nice to wake up to a winter wonderland with full snow cover, even the road got a covering.
  5. Its looking good this side of the Pennines and the METO have forecast it through the night and well into tomorrow you should have a good outing, go for it.
  6. The road is covered now, -0.2C and still moderate/heavy snow.
  7. HaHa, i'm not pulling your leg mate, it really is white over and its pretty heavy snow now too. Everything's covered apart from the road which is quite busy so it's not getting chance, the fields, paths and cars are covered. Surprising really as its been raining for the last couple of days and was raining all day until it turned to snow. It is actually covering the road where the cars are parked as well.
  8. Its white over up here and getting gradually heavier. 0.3C
  9. As i'm on nights this week i'm able to enjoy the sunshine, just got back from a good ride up to the edge of the Woodhead in glorious sunshine wearing 3/4 MTB shorts and a t-shirt, I packed my riding jacket and trousers in the backpack just in case but didn't need them. Its been the first proper ride for months now, the few occasions i've managed to get out over winter have been hard going getting bogged down in wet and rough ground which is not that enjoyable for me, or the bike. Its good to be back on dry solid ground flying down tracks and over ground that was a no go up until now, and it only took me 5 mins to clean the bike down when i got home, bliss. Roll on summer now, its been quite a good winter for us coldies when you look at the stats but its left me feeling a little disappointed, like it didn't live up to expectations but i've enjoyed it and the frequent snow events we've had. Today i noticed life returning with the sun, spring flowers coming through, tree's budding and insects returning to annoy us, a late cold snap will come now and put a dampener on it.
  10. As 4wd made a great post linking Spitting Image, heres Ian McCaskill with the weather.
  11. -2.9C through the night, i was at work and it was freezing, a bit foggy too. A good hard frost this morning but the sun soon sorted that out, its beautiful out there. You could still see a little daylight at 6pm last night and leaving work at 6.20am this morning the sun was rising. Its doing wonders for the energy levels.
  12. After the last couple of days of sunshine and a bit of warmth i'm ready to end winter for this year. Its been a strange winter really, although its given many good snow events and a lot of days with lying snow, its left me feeling a little disappointed and let down. Its just been 'nice', no real serious disruptive snowfall, no deep prolonged cold, nothing really memorable (unless you judge it by last years standards), apart from the night with blizzard conditions and thundersnow which was special. For me personally my expectations have been ruined by 2009 and especially 2010 which are still fresh in my mind, it will take a very special winter to live up to their high standards. Also, keeping up to date with the strat thread raised my expectations to a level which with hindsight was probably way too optimistic, so in reality i've expected far too much and have been left disappointed by a winter that was actually above average by UK standards, maybe, probably?
  13. -0.8C Its stopped here for now within the last 30mins and i cant see whats left pushing a bit further north to reach us, maybe the odd shower if we're lucky. Theres a good couple of inches of nice powdery snow, it never really got heavy, just a moderate flow but its covered everywhere and looks very wintery out there, especially with small icicles hanging from bins, gutters and cars. I'm going to walk the 2miles to work this morning, this could be the last decent snowfall of the winter so i'm making the most of it. Chuffin eck, its chilly out there, just been out to put food out for the birds and fill the feeders and my fingers are aching now.
  14. Its looking ok in Peni, 4-5cm of good powder snow on the wheelie bin and its still coming down, Sheff road is covered. Its cold now too, -1.1C and icicles are forming.
  15. METO have it finally passing around mid morning so it could quite possibly be snowing still if you're travelling early. Its been the same constant moderate flow all night here so far, saying that i've just looked out the window and its really heavy all of a sudden, i hope it keeps this up for a while. Enjoy your drive.
  16. The magical sight of icicles, takes me back to my childhood lamp post watching, getting excited seeing icicles hanging from the street light.
  17. -0.7C now, constant moderate powder thats slowly accumulating. Not sure we'll reach METO's southern Pennine 10cm range but if it carries through the night its a possibility. It looks stunning through the window blowing horizontal in the gusty wind.
  18. Everythings been covered here for a couple of hours, its just accumulating and its that mint powdery glitter snow. Gritter madness on the main road passing every 5-10 minutes loading up and going back out and they still cant clear the main road.
  19. =0.4C and snowing nicely, a bit blizzard like in the gusty wind. The main roads are covered too.
  20. Finally joined the rain fest, well sleety rain anyway, temps jumped from around 0.0C to 1.8C and thats all folks. I blame the septic tanks, they nicked all the snow, nobody needs 2-3ft of the stuff.
  21. I think i've jinxed it, temps risen to 0.7C, very light wet sleety snow, almost stopped and i can now see the hills a couple of hundred meters away. METO does give it turning sleety this aft until turning heavy after the sun sets. Its amazing the difference 50-100 meters can make to what falls from the sky.
  22. If you look at the METO computer generated locals for Penistone they now show heavy snow from 6pm to 6am, could be an interesting night for you if it pans out that way.
