  1. i think that those of us that wish for the cold have been disappointed that feb hasnt been just as cold as they would have liked and spoilt by the recent colder winters and 2010/2011 inparticular yet if this month came 5 years ago we would be pleased that colder months still exist
  2. march has got to be the most changeable month of the year with coldest day of year achieved great snowfall ,temps below -20 possible yet also capable of glorious weather as last year and capable of +25deg and in some parts the hottest day of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. not 100% on figures but i think the 10 years of 1978 to 1987 all but 2 years reached at least -20 and one of them reached -17

  5. we dont have to have clear skies at night to give low cet both 1986 and 1947 gave sub zero cet due to very low maxima and not minima
  6. the coldest day of the year has been recorded as late as march 20th aprox -16 in wales!!!!! plenty time yet
  7. could be in for a cold one 5.1 for me.is there any relation with cold springs and a warm summer??

  9. nationally am not sure but for here 1986 springs out we had 100% snow cover from jan23 to march 4th drifts remained under the walls into late april wit the help of a further wintry spell from late march into early april...1979 had pretty much 50% snow cover into mid april and drifts under walls well into may most of jan and feb had 100% cover.many of the 80s had snowfalls in march and april
  10. nevertheless i 06 was a later spring than 10 i remember picking my mate up from airport off australia flight on aptril 4th to temp of -4 and all the fields were yellow with lack of warmth unlike 10 being green fields
  11. according to met office bradford[my nearest] the extended winter october to april had almost as many air frosts in 05/06 as 09/10!!!!!05/06 ..54air frost 09/10...57....the most being 1916/17 ...94!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. had a drive up hade edge near holme moss yesterday and there are a few big ones some 6-7 ft stuff, been over burnley today a lot less there ,think you got o lot more in the peaks .did you remember 86 or 79 am sure the drifts were black and left muck lines when they melted ,was that muck blown round for a long time or was coal soot a factor??
  13. the latest date for coldest day of year is 20th march!!!!! -16 in gwent wales 1930....i think.........so there is time yet
  14. surprising with the wintery month there has been only managed -7,am sure we have always managed -6 even in a snowless winter
  15. never actually timed it but any idea how long it takes to melt some of these 4ft drifts in current conditions...2weeks...
  16. seems a shame the snow went so fast just getting used to it.still plenty of drifts up the tops will take a bit of shifting
  17. just put van through some 2ft drifts on windmill lane on way to hade edge nearly got stuck was fun
  18. had plenty of snow showers and days just havnt had the cold to keep snow cover and the depths and im missing living at 340m where there is more of each and plenty drifts
  19. hoping for a cold spring as 2006 and a cold wet may...a barn full of hay.........crocuses trying to sneek out at mo
  20. 1deg here today most of overnight snow melted full snow cover around 200m drifts and bitter winds above 300m
