  1. has anyone had any cold temps lately or has scotland and wales a chance of taking the coldest temp of the season?
  2. -2deg aprox 12 inch of snow still snowing and blowing .worst conditions here since 1995,worst conditions in march since 1979
  3. -2deg 6 inch snow depth with drifts up to 2m deep on the tops and blizzards, havnt seen these conditions since 1995,might be bad in morning if it continues, just been on minor road up tops and had to go back as a ford ranger stuck in a 5 ft drift,
  4. just to add 1986 had the coldest april for 60 years @ 5.8
  5. currently -2 deg and snowing medium winds snow depth 6 inch, just been up tops to 400m plenty of blocked minor roads nearly put rangy through wall in drifts had to back up as a ford ranger stuck in a big drift plenty of drifts 2m deep some roads will be wall to wall in morning
  6. if you concider that jan and feb are the coldest months of winter average very similar, then the height of winter is around the end of jan .if it is possible to have severe weather in november such as 1919,1985 and 2010 being at least 8 weeks before the height of winter then 8 weeks after is the end of march being an equivalent.these may be rare events but do happen.in the 80s and 60s marches were often wintery and who remembers april 24th 1981?
  7. -1deg snowing 3 inch already, blowing. maybe first real blizzard since 1995.working out today at 250m should be interesting
  8. according to met office figures statistics it was pretty average but that doesnt give a true picture as someone who experienced it,i'm sure i will be corrected
  9. it depends wether you like winter or summer and i like both so i'm doing 5 of each!! winter... january 1979.nothing comes close to the sheer amounts of snow we had and was very cold drifts under walls into may -0.7 february 1986.severe cold with unrelenting snow showers and never ending biting east winds for 6 weeks -1.1 december 1981.very heavy snow, very cold worse than 2010 in these parts -1.0 april 1981. to give that amount of snow in the last week of april must be the most crazy weather event in a lifetime with terrible floods to follow december 2010 have to give credit for night temps, just lacked volume of snow -0.7 summer august 1995 amazing august1984 great here july 1983 hot august 1989 july 2006 just what came to mind, could have easily put in months from 2003,1990,1992,1997
  10. in 1986 it was 26th april before 18deg was reached anywhere in the country
  11. had we had a little more snow and slightly colder it could have been a very severe period
  12. currently 5 deg and cloudy ,-4this morning still snow cover above 250m
  13. i found a listing on a website a couple of years ago on daffodill flowering for each year since the 70s,i cant remember the figures but 86 and 79 were by far the latest, will have to have another look......
  14. still waiting for the first daffodills!

  17. its at least mid to late april before the sun will burn
  18. i guess at the very end of feb with the best feb sunny days it is possible to slightly shade white skin.maybe its me in hillier parts that never get down to t shirt until may
  19. im only up the road from you but you will never get sunburnt in feb .maybe the end of march if you are lucky
  20. -6 again this morning ,that is twice this week ,impressive for march
  21. met office at bradford gave 1.75 for march 1947 much colder than march 62. on that reckoning id guess hilltops in this area must have had an average either very close to zero or minus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!amazing
  22. just checked on met office historic data gives 1924 with most air frosts for march at 21... but coldest as 1947 average 1.75..............for this area
