  1. -3 at 5am now -1.sunny,very nice.a couple of days like this the snow will get hard enough to walk on.(maybe 4 or 5 actually)
  2. wish i'd been around to see 47 and 63 but did either of these have monster blizzards in december and the third week of march .also snow remained on cross fell till 18th august.respect
  3. just to note december 1981 was colder than 2010 in our area .check out met office historic station data for bradford!

  5. i think people have different memories of winters depending where in the uk they are in the worst winters its amaziny how places differ.for me these last few winters are more like the 80s but havnt had the volumes of snow and a distinct lack of wind.we used to have real blizzards even 2010 lacked the winds of the 80s 90,95.maybe we are in a custer of colder winters
  6. i was born at end of jan it always snowed on my birthday and we all went sledging.then as i got older it was bikes in snow then motorbikes tractors and cars ,fun getting stuck ,love it.if it wasnt for the cold and snow we wouldnt appreciate lovely sunny summer days .all 6 0f them!!!
  7. my birthday is jan 23 and when i was younger it always seemed to snow on my birthday.am in my mid 40s.anyone got any stats
  8. minus 2 dull light snow at times 6 to 8 inch of snow in total drifts in areas over the tops met office said it was going to get windy ?
  9. all the old farmers say 1947 was worse would have been an experience,an old farmer near said the road wasnt clear to traffic till april 4th and when a ministry of agriculture man came to visit they said they got stuck in snow on the yorks /lancs border at 1400ft on june 3rd.for me 86 the coldest and 79 for snow nothing comes remotely close since
  10. too young to remember the coldest for me was jan 23 to march 3rd 1986 i lived at 340m and worked at 360metre it was cold but according to met office historic data for bradford(our nearest station)january 1940 was colder and feb 47 coldest also lists coldest daytime highs of anywhere in the uk since 1908!!!!! feb 1947
  11. just looked on met office for bradford(my nearest) gave 0.7 average high and -4.9 mins the coldest january since 1908 here only feb 47 colder putting jan 63 in third place
  12. a lull in the light snow -4 deg biting stiff breeze.making it feel a bit like feb 86 anyone remember ,i worked on a farm at 1200 feet made december 2010 feel like benidorm
  13. michael fish does not know what it is going to do! i think it is too changeable nice to see some snow not just over the tops
