  1. I didn't say that did I? But it was showing cold when a lot of the other output wasn't. Carry on drinking from your half empty glass . . .
  2. At the start of last week, the met were convinced that the ECM was wrong about showing the cold spell that began last weekend. They eventually changed their minds. Come on, be positive for once!
  3. We've had some classic winter weather at the end of Feb and into March. Can you explain what your comment is based on, because I'm struggling to understand.
  4. Been pretty good here. Perhaps you are a bit too far north and west.
  5. I didn't think anyone still classed Goodmayes as Essex! Glad it's snowing there though!
  6. Lots of people saying that the ground is too wet for snow to settle. If the ground temp hits zero, it'll start to settle quite readily.
  7. Wind chill makes no difference - it's just an indication of how cold it feels in the wind.
  8. The geography of the US is far more conducive for such snowfalls than the UK. Much more opportunities for very cold and very warm air masses to collide. However, we have had such snowfalls here is the past; they're just very, very rare.
  9. OK, but it doesn't mean that this run is a cold outlier, even though it probably will be.
  10. 6z ensembles will be very interesting. Surely the GFS can't be onto something?
  11. I believe it's the only model where all of its data is freely available.
  12. SSW's are by no means fully understood, and as was mentioned before, they are no guarantee whatsoever that cold will result in the UK. I do hope, however, that the people who promised the HLB a few weeks ago will now have a long hard look at the theories behind what they said, and why HLB has failed to materialise. Of course, there is time still. I can't believe that somebody in this thread has already written off February. Pathetic!
  13. Very interesting. So I take it that you would prefer the Atlantic to smash through this weekend as opposed to the block fighting? Short term pain for long term gain!
  14. What you say is likely, but not certain. It is not a done deal until it happens. There have been a few subtle shifts today, which could have major effects further down the line.
  15. May not be a few weeks, but then again it could be! Would be Sod's law if the northern blocking reappeared in Spring and Summer!
  16. Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I get a feeling that this change to so called zonal its won,t be as clear cut as some seem to think. I believe that it,s highly likely that we will get a breakdown, but where we go after that could be interesting. Any charts beyond the weekend should be taken with a pinch of salt. There is some model disagreement in respect of the details of the breakdown, which will affect what happens after.
  17. Am quite interested as to how the SSW theories can explain how the PV can be so strong.
  18. He's probably been looking at his seaweed . . . It's a brave call to go against such strong model agreement.
  19. It's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard, along with most other similar apps. They just use raw data from one source. Probably GFS!
  20. It must be amazing to be able to be like you, to be able to see things before they happen. What are you basing your comment on ?
