I reckon it'll be close to average; cool first first half, milder second.
11.6c.

I'd love to do this one day... it's just a shame the dates clash with Uni!
-
With the increased tremors but lack of plume, I'd say something was building beneath the volcano and agree with kold, could be the largest eruption yet soon.
-
Anyone noticed if the volcano is emitting Magma now/increased activity? Can't get a cam to load.
Reason I ask is the seismometers near (including esk which is back) have both indicated the 0.5 1 hz has dropped yet the higher frequencies have increased. Would of thought that would mean something thats been coming up has finally reached the surface / near the surface.
It's very hard to tell from the Vala cam, which someone just posted an image from, as there is so much cloud around. From this cam you wouldn't say there was any change from yesterday but of course, better observations may suggest otherwise.
-
I quite agree, no amount of wishing is going to alter what happens so I for one am enjoying the front seat view the webcams give.
Well until the weather closed in!
Still tomorrows forecast for Reykavik (sorry if that is spelt wong.) is for sunny weather. At least, that was what they said yesterday!
Reykjavik is a long way from the volcano; it's like London to Newcastle distance roughly.

The thing is, with tensions mounting between the scientists and the airline companies, some might ask how much ash does it take to stop an aeroplanes engines from working? I suppose it's a bit like asking 'how much water does it take to drown someone?' to which, of course, there is no definite answer.
EDIT: I'm visiting the Met Office Hadley Centre next Friday as part of a field trip to Exeter this week; should be interesting given the current situation. I feel I should ask some questions about it when I'm there... if anyone has any questions I wouldn't mind asking (given they're sensible )

It's not often you see overnight minima of below freezing and daytime maxima of around 20c.
Currently 19.5c, clear blue skies and calm. Absolutely beautiful.
-
Looks like there's ash blowing past the Vala cam now, big dark chunks, unless it's snow?
-
Watching http://www.flightradar24.com/ at the moment and there's a solitary KLM flight above the Netherlands, and there was a flight going around above Bucks but it's just vanished from the site (did it land at Luton?).
As winds turn more directly northerly, and almost directly from Iceland in the next couple of days, I see absolutely no possibility of any UK air travel until late next week now, when there are signs of winds finally changing to easterly over Iceland and westerly here. Whether the ash cloud will be able to wrap around the low pressure system, moving westwards out of Iceland, south over the Atlantic then eastward back to the UK remains to be seen.

Are all these Earthquakes and now the volcano exploding normal in a year? Or is it leading up yo 2012? O_O
Nope, perfectly normal. What is unusual is that the weather patterns just happened to mean that ash was blown towards Europe. By the end of next week, a normal stream could resume pushing the ash away over the Arctic.
We're basically at the mercy of the very ground we stand upon, yet it is one of a number of reasons this planet has life in the first place.

Just screen grabbed that image and increased the contrast. I didn't see it yesterday but some people on another forum are saying it doesn't look as bad, whilst others say it's looking worse.
-
the problem is Tom,some of it might be true...
which do you believe..whats the reality...
If air travel cannot resume properly until next Friday, and with the Mail encouraging panic buying, then there will be problems. I'm sure a lot of stuff comes by boats though, especially food and possibly fuel?
I can't even begin to imagine what its like to be stuck in a foreign country; of course we hear about people stuck in Spain and the USA, but what about people stranded in places like Asia and the Middle East? My sister returned from Dubai the day before all flights were suspended and I certainly wouldn't have liked the idea of her being stranded there!
-
It was only a matter of time before the Mail started scaremongering with food shortages, fuel shortages and such.
-
I'm stuck in Florida I think, was due to fly home tomorrow afternoon but not looking too good for us, what do you guys think will be the situation as of 4pm GMT. They can only offer us a return alternative in 10 days time due to the amount of people having to be moved .....
Worse places to be stuck though hey
Just like to add that it looks like the volcano is spewing again quite a lot.

Misty and overcast currently, but must have been clear at some point overnight due to low minima.

24hr rainfall: 0mm

I've seen a helicopter and a light aircraft fly over today, presumably below the affected 18,000ft elevation. I did think that if the airspace was closed then nothing was allowed to fly, but that would ban things like hot air balloons and skylights.
Waiting to see if there's a nice sunset this evening or not.
-
Sunny spells here nothing out of the ordinary, visually except that I live under a busy airspace and I have not seen a single jet airliner flyover.
Last few days planes landing at Stansted have been flying over here as they normally do. They were coming over earlier, but seem to have stopped now already.
-
I am extremely glad my sister came back from holiday yesterday, it must be absolute chaos at the airports and some of you are saying it could just be the start of prolonged disruption!
I guess it's just sheer bad luck that the weather patterns are set how they are, and look to get even worse over the weekend.

An interesting article on BBC News this morning.
The UK and continental Europe could be gripped by more frequent cold winters in the future as a result of low solar activity, say researchers. They identified a link between fewer sunspots and atmospheric conditions that "block" warm, westerly winds reaching Europe during winter months.
