  1. Gardeners Question Time on radio today was in association with Met Office and Met Office stance seemed to be that the signs and data for this winter pointed to less severe than the last couple of years - assume they have a lot more stats and information than is available to general public but wonder if their thoughts will be realised.
  2. Have we any more updates as to possible winds here in Croydon area - just wondering whether to sleep at the front of the house where there are less trees
  3. I really hope it is downgraded -I missed the news so was going to ask what the current thoughts were-really hope that the people who were hit so badly aren't going to go through it again.
  4. A lot quieter here - hopefully the worst has been and gone but not counting on it . Had very little sleep and not worth trying now as have the 7 0'clock pick up slot at M &S - not looking forward to the drive there though I assume worse would be over by then?
  5. Thinking of moving bedrooms to front of house tonight as a couple of very large trees at back -horrible noises from outside now - is this really going to get a lot worse?
  6. I seem to be the only person I know concerned about the approaching weather - family all seem to be carrying on with evening arrangements whilst I sit here getting stressed out - been told to leave the forums till tomorrow as I am getting anxious the more I read - so if I don't post hope everyone stays safe.
  7. Thank John - all very worrying .Is this storm on the dame sort of level as the storm of a couple of weeks ago - though we didn't have it so bad here then
  8. Pretty awful here near Croydon -anyone idea when it is going to peak around here - currently have a daughter and granddaughter here who will be leaving to go home later and another daughter who is insisting fine to drive later on - very worrying. Any idea how this storm compares to the recent St Judes?
  9. Thanks John - hopefully can get her to stay home tomorrow - must admit finding this a bit worrying now - agree with others this forum much nicer than some of the others nice to be able to post without worrying about a negative response whatever your weather preference.
  10. How bad is it looking for Croydon in rush hour tomorrow -daughter has to drive from Reigate to Croydon and refuses to listen to my warnings as apparently I always over exaggerate the weather.
  11. After sitting in the road for half an hour this morning comforting a girl who had crashed her motorbike after slipping on ice, while she screamed in pain whilst we waited for the ambulance made me realise that the weather can be very destructive - would rather have boring and mild then have to see a youg girl being taken off to hospital with suspected back and neck injuries.
  12. As someone still trying to understand the models it is such a shame that this thread gets so cluttered with ramps and bias towards one type of weather or the other - to be honest you only have to see who the poster is to know more or less what the post is going to show -it would be a lot easier for us novices if these posts were put on the moans and ramps thread and the model thread reported what the models show without the bias.
  13. What are the chances of snow in the Croydon area tomorrow John ?
  14. Is there any more idea for the chances/amounts of snow in our area now John?
  15. Does anyone have any idea of snow prospects for Croydon area next week -I know I am in the minority here but hoping it is not to bad as have to be out and about.
  16. Has anyone any thoughts on driving to work in Croydon area - not sure whether we have had the worst?
  17. Thought the storm would be passing through Croydon area between 3and 4 this morning but looking at the forum looks as though we may still have it come is this still the case?
  18. Do you have any update on the expected arrival and intensity of the storm in the Croydon area John-must admit getting a bit worried now especially as hubby thinks he is still going to set off to London in morning and daughter thinks she is driving to Reigate from here as they both think I am going over the top about the situation.
  19. John - have you any thoughts on how this could affect us in the Croydon area bearing in mind the updates?
  20. J P - Have you any idea how the Croydon area could be affected if the storm takes the route currently expected? I am hoping that my husband who travels into London will work from home but myself and daughter work about 5 miles from home in different directions so not sure what to do about that ,main worry is huge tree close to the house -survived the 87 storm and is about 100 years olds hoping it is strong.
  21. Can anyone give me an idea of how the Croydon area is likely to suffer if the storm goes as currently suggested ? I am getting slightly worried mainly due to a huge tree not far from the house -hubby thinks I am being over the top with my doom-mongering and just says the tree survived the 87 storm but still anxious - short of moving in the next 24 hours not much we can do but wonder if anyone has any ideas 're this area ans expected storm impact. Thanks
  22. Today's hint of spring has been lovely - everyone I have spoken to has said how miserable the weather has been making them feel and how they are desperate for some spring like - or even just milder weather - hopefully is it's on it's way ..........finally .
  23. Think I am just going to give up and hibernate for the next month - snowfall and blizzards apparently on the horizon again on the MODS thread - planning anything at the moment seems just pointless when the weather is likely to jepordise any plans that need any kind of decent weather
  24. A few flakes here but nothing more - tbh want some sun and warmth soon. I have a weekend away next weekend in Oxford which has been delayed once already due to the weather. Based on the forecast for next weekend wondering if I should just cancel again - although sods law says that if I do that the forcast will change Thursday evening .
