  1. A distinct lack of posts from hard core coldies on the mods thread makes me think that the vast majority have had enough of this horrible cold weather now. Really can't understand why some people are still wanting these miserable conditions in April - being stuck indoors, huge bills etc - I personally can't wait for the opportunity to get out and about and enjoy the warm if spring ever arrives. Still each to their own.

  2. Really is quite amazing that unless you are all out for cold you are considered a Troll - I was under the impression that this was a 'weather' forum not a 'cold and snow' forum - as such, preferences of one type of weather or another should be as valid as each other.

  3. What makes exciting armchair viewing for some is having a pretty dire effect on a lot of people and their finances - we have a few garden centres and nurseries near us and though the major ones who diversify in what they sell don't suffer too much, this weather will have a profound seffect on those tiny nurseries and smallholdings for whom Easter is usually one of their busiest times. This together with the tragic loss of animals and people in some situations together with seeing an article on the news channel with elderly people snowed in without power is enough for me to want to see this cold spell end.

  4. is it right it might continue into May?

If you read the Daily Mail quite possibly smile.png

Mind you looking at the NW 10 day forecast -it is going to snow here for the next 10 days - a view which doesn't seem to be shared by the Met or the Beeb. It is very confusing for a newbie like me that when the NW forecast shows snow ( which it has done pretty much everyday for the last few weeks ) other sources rarely agree and are generally correct. Is the NW forecast actually even worth taking notice of ?

  5. Even though this is a snow forum I find it hard to believe that there are people relishing cold in April without snow unless they have a large portfolio of British Gas shares in which case they have hit the jackpot.

I love snow but spring should be about warmth, a cold April will be mentally draining.

Agreed - this has gone on too long now - bring on the Spring.

You are from my neck of the woods John so fingers crossed a gradual warm up for us

  6. T60 which is where the main action is sees the front already around 50 /100 miles SW than the 12z-

THe snow line has come back towards Bristol & along to London but because of the course gridpoint hanst pulled much PPN out of the extreme North & NE, but the shift is there.

People are getting confused with 2 seperate event that are both linked- the 24-48 hour event is highly focussed on the NW & central midlands Etc, when a secondary pulse running up from the SW meets the cold air digging South- this is when the whole lot pivots & stalls out in a line from London out to North wales-

That line is south of Ians line & I expect it to be further still tomorrow.

Do I understand that the Friday snow event won't affect us in the SE corner but that the later event Saturday will, or have I got that wrong ( sorry charts are still a bit of an enigma to me )

  7. Sorry another question here - how far away is FI ? For example how close to an event can we get to knowing it is probably going to happen and how far away would it still be considered FI - is a snow event next week still FI and how close would we know it was pretty much nailed on ?

As a previous poster said I will also try harder to get to grips with the models before next winter starts :).

  8. As I am a real amateur looking at these charts so wonder if somebody could clarify for me - do these charts show more snow for the South East and is there any trend at all for milder weather showing on any of the models. Although I understand that most on here are enjoying the current weather I am more than ready for Spring due to health issues of family.

Also does anybody have any idea of where I can pick up information as to how to look at the models so I am not asking so many stupid questions next winter.
