  1. And there's the key point for me. As disapponting as some of the forecasts are at the minute the last thing I would ever want is a bucketload of snow turning to rain followed by the dreaded 'drip, drip' before lunchtime! Meanwhile slight upgrade for the start of next week in the latest Met text forecast for Lothian and Borders - "Strong easterly winds on Monday with sleet and snow showers becoming more frequent".
  2. I like the look of the MetCheck map above but it's MetCheck and most likely nonsense. They'd be pretty much the only site to have anything like a high risk for the Lothians. ....The latest BBC forecast is far from inspiring for here either. Not much in the way of showers tomorrow, some on Saturday but dying out later.
  3. I think we'll have to pay for Nov/Dec 2010 for a few years yet
  4. Am I correct (propably not) in thinking that the winds will swing more easterly through Saturday? Would give Edinburgh a bit more of a shout then - maybe! By the way - this model watching is painful
  5. Bye Bye Wales: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map
  6. Freezing rain I think. Can someone else confirm?
  7. http://www.metoffice...nings/#?tab=map The warnings for Sat and Sun suggest they've no idea regarding the extent of snow showers from the east.
  8. MetO says one thing, this says another: Just proves it'll come down to the wire. Monday looks like potential:
  9. Thanks Edodfc. I must admit that the MetO sourec confirms my worst fears - Edinburgh is too sheltered from SE'erly. Not looking great at the minute. At least it'll stay cold though.
  10. Once the Scotsman print a warning it's all over LOL
  11. I notice everyones favourite new site has Android and iPhone apps: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=no.nrk.yr&hl=en https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/yr.no/id490989206?mt=8 Not installed it yet but might be of interest to some
  12. Radio Scotland mentioned Scotland mostly missing the snow on Friday but highlighted the risk in the East for heavy snow showers over the weekend.
  13. Not overly excited by no frontal snow and a potentially 'slack' easterly. How inland would that bring showers? Not so much as a frost overnight either - currently +1c. In terms of disappointment this spell is currently right up there! Oh and for a forum newbie what is TOORP?
  14. Everone's new favourite site :-) Currie: http://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Currie/long.html Won't happen but looks good!
  15. This might help a bit: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/interesting/dec2010/ I doubt I'll see anything like that again to be honest - 22" level depth in the garden!! Conditions were just perfect for the Lothians.
  16. http://pic.twitter.com/p39mYia7 Wouldn't surprise me. Frontal snow has a habit of not reaching here. Warming reserved to the SW though.
  17. Like you I'm only wanting snow for the kids....honestly
  18. And if it doesn't? That's not all bad news either if I seeing this right? Would leave us keeping the cold at least if it stalled further west? Would that give us a sniff at convective showers from the ease/south east? Enough questions? I generally don't rate frontal snow for this location but this could be good if it stalls in the right place. If given a choice though I'd prefer to keep the cold and have no snow than have this push right through and bring us milder air and a snow to rain mess - although that doesn't look like happening just now. EDIT: Think LS just answered most of this - cheers
  19. Must admit that I'd very happily swap a potential frontal event for a potential unstable convective event. My memories of frontal snowfalls in his area really aren't great.
  20. Fingers crossed this doesn't happen! Although be quite the thing for a possible major snow event to go wrong!
  21. Thanks LS. The March 2006 event still gives me nightmares. The west and most of the central belt plastered with snow but by the time it reached here I remember West Edinburgh getting a few cm at best! I think that was the event whihc led to people in Glasgow spending the night in clubs as the snow was so bad there was no transport home.
