  1. I'm not pleased with this.

And then I was thumping on about the new like system, for many regional is "home" Paul you say it gets more inactive, but there are many that post all year round. There is always weather, regardless of the season... Many will feel horrified of the change.

Bring back the regional 365 days a year :good:

Paul usually i'm with you, but not this time. I do not have the technical ability to post on the numerous other threads, which makes the forum ATM dead for me.

  2. Afternoon allWas surprised by how much cooler today turned out to be, but weekend is not looking as bad as it did a week ago, handy as I have a few outdoor activities planned, one involves a beer tent :drunk:remained dull all day here too, dry after last nights rain though and currently 11.5oC with a bit of a breeze about.Have a great day all and more importantly an even better weekend :good:

A chilly day the nagging wind, had a bite to it. Gloomy and overcast today.Have a good Bank Holiday weekend :good:
  3. I think too much of IMBY is coming to play, the rain here is torrential and this does not like it will ease anytime soon.

Cell to my W, greater london is being bombarded with cells, and downpours :D I think we got lucky this time.

Meanwhile a large portion of Sussex remains dry, this will help ease the sorrows of that March 2013 Snowstorm. Which missed me by a small margin. Sky darkening to my west interesting cloud formations.

  4. I've seen the latest forecast, things will be get going by the afternoon... The graphics did dictate a convective day. Particulary for the SW numerous clumps of heavy showers... Possibly thundery as the day goes on the risk transfers to the SE, Saturday is not looking as cool :good: still a chilly start.

Also on the graphics... Cold air spills south from the Arctic North :cold:

Chilly friday night - Frost out of Town & Cities âš ï¸

    post-19153-0-33850100-1398888479_thumb.j

Lots to keep us entertained - Hope we get something spectacular :D Meanwhile presently it's 11.9c, it will feel distinctly cooler by friday onwards, then what we have been currently enduring.

  5. Tomorrow appears promising, from the latest runs - GFS 12Z CAPE is reasonable, more so in the West Country, it may be the trigger to spark some decent storms :good: Heart Attack at a footie match... It bewilders me that it don't happen much more frequently especially supporting Millwall. I'm of a tender age but it does get the heart racing, I hope the Man recovers promptly.

    Updated Chart - GFS 18Z

I would take that as a upgrade, not bad for the London area.

  6. So I do need to dig out the thermals for Saturday's bus-conducting job, then, John? Routemasters are pretty, but it's damn cold standing guard on the platform.

My name is not John but my Dad's name is John :D It will be a cold start to the day wrap up warm. You will need some layers. Temperature peaks at 12c which is not warm. We have just had a blackout which has effected the whole neighbourhood even lasted for 2m, not normal for Central London. post-19153-0-47685100-1398806750_thumb.j post-19153-0-07324200-1398806773_thumb.j

Quite impressive Cloudscapes :) Hope there is better to come throughout the year :good: I reckon this year is going to be a good one for torrential downpours and frequent CG lightning, just a hunch.

It did not deliver the goods, we did not have the heat to spark of some intense Storms!

  8. Daniel, your post appears to have had triplets! Anyone got any clear idea of how cold/wet it will be on Saturday afternoon yet? I've got a bus-conducting job and need to get the thermals out if it's going to be too bad!

It did how hilarious was that :D Go easy on me I'm very much a novice, by 2016 I should get the jist, I love that terminology ^ I have a basic understanding. I can read a chart, it's just putting it into words.
  9. Daniel you live in the wrong part of south east london, it was lovely here this afternoon after a nippy start. Dark clouds rolled in around 7pm but that helps keep the temps up so I don't mind.

The wrong part :p well it improved in the afternoon, not picture perfect. How strange we might go through April without a single day of exceeding 20c, late this year. Thursday looks good, CAPE is decent, according to the GFS 12Z, hope it don't get downgraded. Any imports we get should stand a better chance of retaining there potency. Or gaining :D Positive anomalies dominating around the British Isles.post-19153-0-84143400-1398717288_thumb.jpost-19153-0-77480600-1398717177_thumb.jpost-19153-0-55386200-1398717126_thumb.j
  10. Afternoon All. :) Nice shots Tam,

It has started to turn cloudy in SE London - and the skies have darkened, threatening looking. Convective day? Most of the action today is to our west there seems to be some sort of rotation on the showers to our SW - or is that just me? Heavy clump incoming London way, had nothing of note so far...

Clouds started to get ominous, thought a Storm was brewing, sadly not. (Need to learn my Clouds!!)

  11. This got me thinking to see if we had many snowfalls late in the year recently. This might surprise you, it did me...http://metofficenews.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/how-often-does-it-snow-in-may/Quite shocking so u never know what might happen in the next week. Hopefully not though. Bring on the hot weather and juicy storms. :-)

Interesting... Not as rare as I first thought - 1979 repeat? Lol :p CC you'll bring us goodluck I can envisage the stormiest spell since records began,A supercell the size of Poland? Haha.
  12. Multiple volcanic eruptions and a new ice age would spell doom for mankind, there would be no one left on the planet to see the snow! :(  Boy was it  cold this morning though and the BBC are talking frosts, looks like May could be a cold one, just planted stuff in the garden...........typical!

Naa strongly doubt that, if the supervolcano in Yellowstone erupted North America would be in peril. We would survive a ice age, those in north latitudes like Canada, Russia would go "sarf" mankind will never die out by natural phenomena. We survived the last one, and we would be much better equipped then all them years ago. This end of the world thing has really gripped you :p Live for today is what I'll say.
  13. lol @ Ben Nevis - have a read of the various south east county weather books by Bob Ogley and friends. Amazing some of the snow storms in April in the south east in history. As with all extreme weather though its generally better watching from home. Here I see many lightning strikes hitting the mountains so when I'm hiking and a storm is coming in I run off that mountain as fast as I can lol.I will look forward to seeing some good storms this year in the UK and hope everyone stays safe chasing them

Morning All. :)Many of them historic April snow storms occurred during the 17th/18th Century. We need Krakatoa and many dormant volcanoes to wake up not forgetting a little ice age (not much to ask) We are overdue a proper Ice Age, humanity's infulence has put it on hold. We do good for storms in the UK especially the South East. You can almost be certain of a good storm, the summer heat usually is the spark :) Last years storms was Epic! The vivid blue/purple CG Lightning was what I call a proper firework display :)post-19153-0-17883200-1398508965_thumb.j^ From last year June, not my own. But I'll be looking out this year.

  14. Couldn't agree more, we all hope for our own weather preferences, whether its snow in April or storms in December. That what makes the UK weather so fantastic is that it can happen and why April is IMO one of the best months as you can get everything in this month from blizzards to t-storms. :-)

Blizzards on the summit of Ben Nevis perhaps :p Back to lightning, how can you possibly respect lightning, you can take precautions by not sheltering under Trees and so on. My Uncle got struck by lighting quite some time ago totally out the blue, fortunately he had a lucky escape. Lightning is a hazard to human health, basically a form of high voltage electricity. It is a nuisance when out and about, when inside and snug in your home it's a different story. I find the UK climate dull, we lack extreme weather like in the States. Which is more good then bad, but does increase the desire for something explosive to happen :)

  15. 20c failed to materialize, 10.6c with cold rain. Not great - And the storms swanned off, To the continent per usual.

Another dismal display from the weather gods, this country is riddled with average weather :p

Horrid day ahh it was looking so good... Just persistent rain and thick cloud; seen better.

Gardeners be warned âš ï¸ very cold minima from the GFS

  16. When you have a garden of your own Daniel you'll understand why growers don't like any frosts now.Not all the crops by farmers are GM one's and those of us that grow our own have just plain old seeds that produce plants that get frost damaged. Even a light frost now will damage fruit tree blossom which means less fruit is grown which means prices go up.The weather affects not only our day to day lives but also our household food budgets. One of the many reasons I find weather interesting.Today was spent in my garden, with tomatoes potted on, and listening to baby birds calling from the nearby tree as mummy and daddy blue tits collect meal worms from my bird table for them. The sun was warm when it wasn't covered by clouds so all in all a lovely spring day.

I totally understand that, we have a garden not the prettiest sight, we have a grape vine. It always bears fruit every year, small sour black grapes. It is edible not much can be said apart from that. There is something rewarding about not having something with your mark on it. It has started budding so we do not need any frost either. I just wanted to add my perspective, it's not all doom & gloom :) Not sure if this is a Old Wife's' Tale but a light frost can make fruit sweeter?
