  1. So funny seeing all these "coverings". Is this really how snow starved we've all become?
  2. Your area was amazing in December as well! I was in London as it started coming down. By the time I got back to North Essex there was hardly anything. So disappointing!
  3. Think most of us in this thread have had our lot. Whatever is left to come is looking like sleet at absolute best. Was never going to be much else, the temperatures just weren't low enough. The models have proven to be hugely unreliable, bordering on pointless, and I'm sure they're getting worse.
  4. Funny how people's take on what constitutes pretty thick etc differs. I travelled into Liverpool St this morning and there really wasn't much at all in East London!
  5. I think our proximity to the coast is scuppering us. I expect cold rain or a sleety mix at best.
  6. You can tell how snow starved we are when people start saying they have a "winter wonderland" and there's barely a covering! Ha ha! On the 0630 train out of Colchester where it had just started to pick up and settle but won't come to anything. Nice to see falling snow at least. From the train, it seemed like just past Chelmsford was the sweet spot for Essex.
  7. Well this has been disappointing. Woke up expecting the sky to be that weird orange colour you get at night. Nope. As predicted, nothing here just outside Colchester.
  8. Well, heading off to bed now. Early start for me tomorrow, interviewing candidates in London all day... hope the journey home is uneventful! Here's to waking up to a few surprises across our region. Good luck, all!
  9. I wish I shared your optimism, Floaty. Think we'll be on the cusp again, sadly. Reckon south of the county will be fine though.
  10. It wasn't great in Colchester at all, especially compared to just a few miles down the road.
  11. Agreed. Nothing more than a slush fest on offer for the South East, but it was never really looking like anything else. Think I'll take a break from here for a bit and look forward to warmer weather. The NIMBY ramping is getting really tedious, despite mods repeatedly asking people to stop it.
  12. I didn't see anything worth bothering about this time. Lots of 'potential' but we got burnt in December waiting for the snow that never arrived. This time I've just lost the will to live with all the chopping and changing. I get that the models are struggling with consecutive SSWs, but they've been absolutely terrible. I swear they're becoming more useless as the years tick by!
  13. I never even took to Facebook this time! Ha ha!
  14. Where abouts in North East Essex was this?
  15. Knife-edge stuff for me. I was in London with the family in December when that snow started coming down. All the way back home through Essex was a white out. Kids excited, I'm excited. Then we get off at Colchester and there's barely anything! Literally five miles down the road it was laying thick. Gutted to miss out then and looks like it might be touch and go again.
  16. If I was a betting man, I'd be doing a combination tricast on numbers 2, 6 and 7, knowing our luck in England!
  17. True, and it's a really good idea, but relies on people actually hitting the 'informative' reaction, which many egos won't allow!
  18. Agreed. Like I said, I do quite enjoy the hype as well as the constructive stuff. There is a certain member who is fond of an exclamation mark who I've come close to ignoring before, but I like his child-like wonder! Despite my very low post-count, I've actually been a member here for a long time (10 years!) and seen the general content being 'dumbed down' a certain amount. We've lost some really knowledgeable people over the years and the community is worse for it. Just my opinion, of course.
  19. Oh yeah, I agree. Model chat should be about discussing what is coming, not what you want to happen. Surely that's what this thread, or the regionals, are for? To come to your other point though, about the echo chamber, not at all. I don't block all who I disagree with, just those that offer nothing constructive. Well aware of the pointlessness of the echo chamber!
  20. It's really simple: use the ignore user feature, it's great. Personally, I quite enjoy the hype, it's just a bit of fun. If the models are showing nothing of interest I'll stay away for a week or so. Like any facet of life, you have people in there for who this is everything, and that's fair enough. However, the very nature of the hobby means it's going to appeal to some characters who might find normal social situations challenging. Can you imagine going for a pint with them all?! This is their release. I only come on here from about November-February because I'm interested in snow; others will stay here all year because they're weather aficionados. That's cool, good for them. By using the ignore user feature, I've been able to curate the content to, broadly, show me what I want to read, whether that's hyperbolic cold ramping, or careful, considered analysis of why it won't snow. Anyone celebrating in there because it's going to snow in their area only goes straight on the list! Anyone posting 2000 words in a post, a lot of which I can't understand, also goes on the list. Honestly, try it out, you'll find it a much more enjoyable experience. Oh, and don't follow any of them on Twitter, they're even worse on there. I've seen two of them having a full blown row about who called what, first. Hilarious!
