  1. Heavy enough snow now that it is attempting to settle, and the flakes are much bigger too!
  2. Snowing persistently and moderately, but with very granular flakes
  3. On and off snow flurries in Ealing, driven on by a brisk wind. Judging by the radar, there will be a lot more of this today.
  4. Having travelled from Exeter, to Castle Cary, to London, I have observed that the weather is consistently dull, but thankfully dry everywhere! So no matter what anyone thinks of the cold, the dry weather has been beneficial, especially in the South-West. However, I am off up to the North-West Highlands for a week on friday and there the weather has been very dry for a long time so that major fires are now a risk! I think neither flooding nor fires is preferable, and travelling between the South-West and Scotland, it looks like I may see both!
  5. It seems that other areas of southern England have a similar forecast - I'm now in West London and we're forecast light snow for the same time. But as usual, Exeter is forecast none
  6. I am so confused as well. The BBC online forecast is saying snow for Ealing tomorrow morning but I haven't heard anything mentioned and it hasn't really appeared on the computer models. I guess the radar is the best tool right now!
  7. Not that I place much faith in the BBC online forecast symbols, but Ealing is forecast light snow, turning briefly to heavy snow early tomorrow morning... can anyone confirm or disprove that this is a possibility? Thanks
  8. Hello everyone, first time posting in this thread since I normally post in the South-West thread, but I'm coming home to London for Easter so I thought I'd start posting on here too! I am very intrigued by the longevity of this cold spell, and it would be interesting to see if any snow emerges in the next couple of weeks, though obviously this won't be picked up until perhaps 2 days before.
  9. The 12z gives more snow to northern France and the Channel Islands... LOL
  10. I don't have the specific data, but unfortunately, not very well! It has had its moments of brilliance, but the met office doesn't rate it very highly. But you never know!
  11. I could be geeky and name a place from the Narnia books that has hot weather, but I shall refrain at least it's dry, and is likely to remain relatively dry for some time
  12. Haha yes I admit, it's me who has caused this run of very cold weather! Now where's Aslan when you need him haha...
  13. I'm hoping it moves north of that so that my plan to get snow in every location I visit comes true
  14. Yes, but only once I've gone back to London, as is sod's law... have a look at the nae if you haven't already, as it gives snow to Cornwall and Devon from the low http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?LANG=en&MENU=0000000000&CONT=ukuk&MODELL=nae&MODELLTYP=1&BASE=-&VAR=prty&HH=6&ZOOM=0&ARCHIV=0&RES=0&WMO=&PERIOD= though it's not terribly highly rated by the met office, it sometimes is very accurate
  15. Makes perfect sense to me. Think of all the extra moisture in the atmosphere from a larger area of exposed liquid water and how that could affect the development of weather systems and the patterns. But more significantly perhaps is that since the jet stream relies on a large temperature gradient, if the artic is significantly warmer, the gradient is reduced and so the jet stream is weaker and further south. I have seen some people before laugh at the idea that cold weather can happen as a consequence of global warming, but really it's the extreme weather in general that is a consequence of the rising temperatures.
  16. Snowing in Exeter! I would say almost moderate snowfall.
  17. It is definitely shifting west, just extremely slowly. It's probably just outside of Tiverton now.
  18. It seems to be sustaining itself and slightly intensifying for now, though it remains to be seen for how long. I would imagine that it will die out eventually, as a lot of energy will be lost from the fact that it is moving so slowly.
  19. I'm not sure that it was, but I agree, it is continuing to intensify, despite the fact that it's now after sunset. It's slowly making its way westwards so I'd imagine that once the snow starts, it would last for a while yet.
  20. Well hopefully it will keep intensifying so that we will have loads of snow here... who am I kidding lol. This is Exeter I'm talking about... haha
  21. Fingers crossed that the snow will continue to intensify as it approaches us! Apparently it's starting to settle in South Wales
  22. Well this is no ordinary winter! So you never know! The chances of it snowing exactly when I'm there are, however, much lower
  23. I know right! though it's not like I'd be stealing the snow... it would just be exceptionally lucky haha knowing my luck, as soon as I leave Exeter there will be really heavy snow here!
  24. Too true yes well the ideal situation would be that it snows here today or tomorrow, then snows in Castle Cary on friday/saturday and then snows in London until I go to Scotland for a week the following friday, where there is always snow anyway
  25. It's not forecast to lead to anything substantial, though interestingly the latest fax charts have placed a cold front just to the south of us, so we shall see...
