  1. It would be nice if they were! Then we might actually get some heavy snow, rather than purely a forecast of heavy snow!
  2. The issue is that even when there is mild air shown in FI, it still comes with abundant rainfall, which is exactly what we don't want. Next week has relatively low precipitation rates, so for those who don't like the cold (I like the cold, but that's irrelevant) bear in mind that it will at least be drier. The flooding situation is fairly desperate in many areas and as nice as the higher temperatures look, they won't feel nice if it's raining. Until I see dry and mild air shown convincingly, I am favouring cold and dry.
  3. For this event, yes, but who knows what might turn up next week from convective activity, especially if the winds turn more north-easterly. Plus, we have at least a week of cold weather ahead of us, so that does increase the chances significantly compared to some of the shorter cold snaps of late.
  4. No please do keep us informed!! I am not gonna see snow from this particular event but I want other people to get snow! Let's be a bit generous people, even if some of us are snow starved
  5. I live in Exeter during the University term and London during the holidays so I get the best of both worlds both are lovely and the people are lovely in both places the weather is much more variable... as we can clearly see!
  6. I disagree. The uppers for most of Devon and parts of Cornwall would be at around -2/-3 and with dew points around or lower than that, snow is quite widely possible. Perhaps the coast might see more of a wintry mixture but IF that chart came off, then it would be snow for many, if not the majority.
  7. Well if we all breathe in and turn all our vacuum cleaners on, maybe the snow will get drawn towards us?! Do we have anything we can give to the snow to entice it over here? Would it like a nice cream tea perhaps?
  8. I am seriously surprised at how gullible the responses have been! Maybe snow is more of a joke here than everywhere else, seeing as we hardly ever get it! EDIT looks like there's a whole team of South-Westerners at it now!
  9. I don't have the heart to break it to them that they've been fooled... LOL. Imagine if those charts came true...
  10. You're bound to become a netweather celebrity for that haha
  11. That's true, but if you get overnight frosts, and then frequent showers, you can get settling snow. Granted, it won't last long, but it's better than no snow at all in my opinion.
  12. To be honest, snow in these parts is a bonus at this time of year, so if I saw some falling snow next week I would be content! However I would obviously prefer to see large numbers of heavy snow showers being blown in off the English Channel, followed by a channel low and then more snow showers as it pulls away Yes and dry spring warmth, no more rain please haha!
  13. Well in any case, we may well see some snow showers next week provided the air is unstable enough, and the uppers will be sufficiently cold that any precipitation is snow, especially with such low dew points.
  14. I would say with a strong emphasis on the word 'rinse' which is certainly how it has felt in the South-West lately. It would be nice to see some dry weather in the outlook. I personally don't care what the temperatures are, as long as it is dry. Mild and wet certainly doesn't appeal to me at all! Precipitation levels seem to be relatively low for next week (at least on the GFS), so perhaps a brief respite might come in association with the cold weather.
  15. I read that last line as if it were a battle speech in the middle of a war, something akin to "we will fight them on the beaches..." etc. haha Well said! We will have our time, and when we do, all the other regions will be complaining and we will simply have to point them towards this winter as an example!
  16. Yes I agree, however based on the conditions currently forecast, we may well see a fair few snow showers during daylight hours. Whether those conditions are the same when the cold arrives is another matter altogether!
  17. Regardless of frontal precipitation, remember that if the uppers are cold enough (which they are forecast to be next week), then the strong sunshine will likely set off convective snow showers at this time of year. The chances of us seeing more snow are relatively high, it's just that we might not see settling snow. Of course the models are forecasting unusually cold weather for this late in the year, so at this stage, the possibilities are great.
  18. It's quite extraordinary really. The 0 degrees isotherm is currently sitting over North Carolina in the USA and on the France/Spain border in Europe!
  19. Oh I completely agree with you, and personally I think it is unlikely to happen, but it is interesting to see how these extreme runs are still appearing so late in the season. Also, there still remains the possibility of more substantial snow on sunday into monday and, as you mentioned, the heavy rain, so there is plenty to keep us interested!
  20. This has just come from the ECM at 192hours. It would seem that snow is a possibility in the South-West next week!
  21. The angle of the low is a lot better for the westward advection of cold uppers and appears to have spawned a shortwave in front of it.
  22. But it's the fact that there is even the faintest possibility of it verifying that makes all this so interesting! I personally would be very bored if everything was 100% certain!
  23. Well based on current model output, whatever happens I will be very pleased for those snow-lovers in the North-East and Scotland who get cold and snow this coming week and beyond. For the rest of us, there are also some brilliant possibilities being shown and if we're lucky, who knows! But it's been very interesting watching this spell of weather evolve, either way
  24. Well it's been a long winter, but with a chart like that, how could I refuse!!
