  1. On and off sleet here for most of the day with some snowier bursts mixed in but not lying. 1.4c/0.8c/998.7/ENE/Gusty. Dog had to be carried in from the car by the Vet because he refused to walk. Trotted out as nice as you like though!! Obviously knew where he was going when we put him in the car this morning! Got some anti inflammatory medication and recommended resting. (which he will do no problem, believe me!)
  2. Some interesting adjectives used in here this morning! Pishy, Muck, Skittery......and I can assure you the spellcheck does NOT compute!! Ah the Scots, God love 'em! My current situation weatherwise can include all of the above. Have to rush though as off to the Vets with the dog. He appears to have pulled a tendon after a slip yesterday and cannot walk this morning. A bit like me most mornings!! 1.7c/1.1c/ which is almost a copy and paste from yesterday!
  3. If that is current, then it looks like they are having a problem? (again) Read somewhere lately that a black cloud usually means they have suffered 'an event' The disclosure of which usually appears in a discreet column in the press about a fortnight afterwards!!
  4. 1.8c/1.1c/993/wet and windy! ............ Where's my snow?!! I'm slowly TOORPING!!
  5. Gone from 1.9 to 1.8c to 1.7 and back up to 1.9 again within an hour. Kinda boring!
  6. Had a couple of dandruff size blizzardy type showers now, (not lying) so perhaps things are starting to change. 2.0c/1.1c/E/gusty/19mph.
  7. Not embarrassing enough, obviously! It's almost as if they are no longer required. Weather Presenter's job with the BBC anyone?
  8. 2.3c/1.3c/995.4c/E/11mph/drizzle. To say that this weather type was not what I was expecting to wake up to this morning is an understatement. At tea last night, I was sitting listening to Helen Worth giving the forecast, and overnight looked pretty snowy for a good part of eastern Scotland from the borders upwards. I have lost a lot of faith in the BBC forecasts lately, especially as Helen Worth, admittedly a few years ago now, used to be the top forecaster when it was linked to the Met Office. Didn't they used to put their own interpretation on the incoming data back then? I mean as Meteorologists, what the heck are they there for? Obviously there was a good explanation for our area missing out overnight, I think LS touched on the uncertainty. I know that some of them are just presenters, but she (and others) certainly aren't. Sometimes I feel they would be just as effective standing there in front of a sheet of wallpaper! Totally overshadowed by our own forecasters here on Netweather and that includes our amateurs) I think the gritters must be linked to the BBC (or the Daily Express) as well, as they haven't stopped here all night and are still going! Anyhoo, rant over!...Morning folks!
  9. Up for a nature call just now and looked out. Couldn't believe it was raining! Temp 1.3c/0.3c/ENE/998.5. Precipitation showing on the radar as snow but slightly north of me running east to west. The southern uplands appears to have plenty precipitation showing as snow which is slowly moving north towards Fife, but doesn't appear to have enough oomph in it as it just disappears when it reaches the Forth. Only saving grace so far is the constant movement of the gritters past the house. Must be expecting something I guess!
  10. Morning all. Dunno if there was a shower overnight here. If there was, it wasn't much. 0.4c/0.0c/ENE/1000.2. Lowest overnight -2c. Just a case of watching and waiting now!.....................(Easier said than done!)
  11. If I remember correctly, and there is every chance I haven't!but I think that the year (1991) the UK suffered 'The Wrong Type of Snow' which caused problems for rail transport... Gawd, were you even born? all of that came from a SE direction. Kent and Fife suffered the deepest snow depths! So... Go figure KW, you never know! The phrase originated in an interview conducted by James Naughtie on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme on 11 February 1991. British Rail's Director of Operations, Terry Worrall, was asked to comment on the adverse effects of the unusually heavy 1991 snowfall on railway services that winter. Worrall explained that "we are having particular problems with the type of snow, which is rare in the UK". Naughtie replied "Oh, I see, it was the wrong kind of snow," to which Worrall replied, "No, it was a different kind of snow". The exchange prompted a headline in the London Evening Standard saying "British Rail blames the wrong type of snow" which was swiftly taken up by the media and other papers.[2] The cold snap had been forecast and British Rail had claimed to be ready for the coming snow. However, the snow was unusually soft and powdery and too deep to be cleared by snowploughs – it needed snowblowers. The snow found its way into electrical systems and caused short circuits and traction motor damage in trains.[3] For traction motors with integral cooling fans and air intakes pointing downwards – the type that is still common on British electric multiple units – the problem was made worse as the air intakes sucked up the loose snow. Meanwhile, the snow also became packed into sliding door mechanisms and into points, causing them to fail.[3][4] In addition, low temperatures resulted in problems with electric current collection from the third rail. Many electric services had to be replaced by diesel haulage, and emergency timetables were introduced. Long delays were commonplace – up to eight hours in some cases. The disruption lasted over a week.[3]
  12. Morning all! Currently -0.2c/-0.8c/ENE/1001.8. Lowest temp recorded here around -2.4c about 4hrs ago with a dusting of powder snow.
  13. That looks like a northerly to me. Is it? If not, then it's weird.
  14. Heavy shower ongoing here at the moment. 0.9c/0.0c. wind ENE.
  15. Mini blizzard going on at the moment here and it's settling. Just to let 101 know!
  16. Hmm...If I recall, (just last night) your now infamous quote of 'sleety pish' resulted in 2 rather nice snow showers here! Keep on keeping on 101...works well for me!
  17. 2 showers in last five minutes here. Hope it keeps on keeping on! 0.6c/0.0c
  18. You do know that you just killed it with that comment don't you?
  19. Pleasant surprise for me this morning as well to discover I had picked up a shower or two overnight! Very light dusting only, but nice to see. Currently 0.3c/-0.3c/ENE. Latest ECM is being described as a fiasco this morning! Picked up this from the MOD thread a few minutes ago: (contributed by Nick Sussex) "Atrocious lack of continuity from the ECM which seems to be pulling out a different NH solution on every run However both the GEM and UKMO now support its latest change in terms of overall pattern at day 6. Here the models haven’t removed cold chances but can’t seem to settle on one evolution ." Nae surprise there then!
