  1. Hi Snowblizzard, I managed to find this on that Cold spell http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=srOC7pg9UAU That`s the only vid i could find. I guess you have the same problem as Steve M with your film of 1987 with it recorded on Video?
  2. Yes Rollo i am with you, lot`s to learn about this. What a fascinating thread though great job C and Tamara--keep up the great postings.
  3. This is an entertaining thread Steve especially for us Snow starved lowlying dwellers further South. There are quite a number of Snow/Cold vid forecasts on Utube. With reference to Sandstorm 2,s post previously-- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd6DuebHliY That is Mr.Macaskill on the Bitter,Snowy Easterly of February 1991,check out those windchill temps as well. I remember someone else posting similar links sometime ago. Anyhow i hope i havent hijacked your collection as i am sure you have some unseen gems. Good luck with the postings.
  4. I think it`s fair to assume there will be few if any frosts in the CET area in the next week or so at least. With the very unsettled, often windy and wet conditions from the West ,certainly where i am, i can`t see any low mins and with the daytime maxs. anything from 4-8c a pretty average period coming up i reckon. So i would expect a gradual rise in the rolling figure in this period but nothing excessive.
  5. A dull and wet day with frquent outbreaks of rain, occasionally heavy.9c. Give me crisp and cold with sunshine rather than this.Who wants so called mild when its like this? Lights on at 3.30pm.
  6. Hi BL, You could try this link. http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/ Hope that helps.
  7. They are very good pics, thanks for posting. Liked the frozen waterfall at the end. Just shows how severe and lengthy this frosty spell is becoming.
  8. It seems at the moment the Met. prefer the Easterly option rather than full retregression of the High to Greenland which would have initially brought more of a Northerly. It could still change of course but the way the models have show less of a build to the North West you can see the thinking in the forecast. This is still a good pattern though if you like real Wintry weather.
  9. Great pic. Roger.Looks like you are having a longer cold spell than normal.Hopefully the UK will be experiencing our own cold after Christmas as pressure builds further North. Thanks for your reply re.NA snowcover by the way.
  10. Hi Roger and others, Whilst waiting and hoping for our real cold spell to evolve i had a look at the snow cover map for over there. That`s quite amazing covering a large portion of NA--is that usual?
  11. Thanks John-well presented as ever. I do hope that forecast is correct.I`d love a bit of seasonal snow.
  12. Thanks Steve for a very informative piece. Reading between the lines i feel your post is tinged with disappointment at the disappearance of the possible Christmas Easterly that was showing last week and this is what motivated your research.
  13. That`s a good idea John.I too am fascinated by the Winter conditions across the Atlantic and appreciate the "on the ground" reports by our friends over there. Keep up the good work guys.
  14. Thanks for the update John. This colder NW-SE flow does look set for the last part of November and should bring plenty of interest in chart viewing in the coming days.
  15. A well presented forecast. If it turns out anywhere near accurate it would be like a typical Winter of the 1960`s--changeable but with some proper cold spells. I would be happy to see that.
  16. Just a quick comment triggered by postings above regarding the icecap extending to Iceland form Greenland. Going back half a century or so,when i was at school,i remember an old weather book showed a map with a dotted line across the North coast of Iceland, labelled "limit of Ice in Spring" Regretably i can`t think of the title and there are no records,i guess,to illustrate those maps now. It does remind me of how the ice has retreated since those days.
  17. Much better ice formation than this time last year, indeed.
  18. HI Paul, Yes lovely Wintry scene.Looks like they only get a couple hrs. daylight up there now according to time on pic.
  19. The Bay Bridge in San Francisco, taken on 7/10/08. This one taken from the Harbour bridge looking back at the city, also taken on 07/10/08
  20. Hi Carinthian, A better picture of ice build up compared to this time last year.Note the advance of ice towards Spitszbergen. Earlier ice formation the other side of the pole as well, compared to last year. Regards,Phil.
  21. quote name='carinthian' date='23 Sep 2008, 05:49 PM' post='1333715'] Thanks for the report Mr M. Forecast charts do indicate a movement south of the Arctic Front across the North American Arctic Rim. Sea temps up to 8C colder than last year ? Thats a hell of a lot in those waters ! C Afternoon, Arctic Front currently passing through Svalbard. Pictures from up there anyone? This same front will bring much colder conditions into Northern Scandinavia and spread down into Western Russia over the coming 7 days. C
