  1. 'Tis strange - my birthday (14th July) was always a day for miserable weather and I can only remember a handful of birthdays when the weather was really good. Only 2003 and 2006 really spring to mind. When I was a kid, the weather was hardly ever nice enough to be outside for my party.
  2. Agree - totally dreadful day. Pouring rain, gloomy skies, and cold! I have just put the heating on yet again - in June!! Longest day on Monday and then it all goes downhill - what a terrible year!
  3. It's been miserable and overcast all day today here, with the odd glimpse of the sun. Spitting with rain! 16 degrees. The heating has come on again!
  4. My heating keeps clicking on and off all day, my bathroom is as cold as a January day, my vegetables aren't growing at all, my bedding plants are all drenched! When oh when will this current weather improve?? Let's hope it isn't going to be another 1816!
  5. Thanks for the depressing post! I LIVE for the spring and have been denied it this year!
  6. I swear I heard a robin in the garden singing his autumn song this morning! Normally they sound so joyful at this time of the year - maybe they are as fed up as we are!
  7. May is my very favourite month too - this is absolutely dreadful! It's like a late October day here today, the heating is clicking on and off all the time and my neighbour lit his wood burner yesterday! I hate the way the lovely light evenings are already ticking away until the Solstice and we haven't sat outside once yet this year (and my flowers/veg refuse to grow!).
  8. Awful, awful weather, and soooo cold! I haven't given up wearing a coat as a matter of course yet, and my kitchen was so cold on Monday I sat there with it on (and the heating!). What really concerns me is that the vegetables and other plants I have put in are doing precisely nothing - in fact some have just shrivelled up and died (and that is in a sheltered, covered position). I had to go out and buy more this morning, but will be keeping them in the garage until it warms up!
  9. January by Pilot - although I found it quite uplifting as the days get longer!
  10. Oh I love those gorgeous early sunny mornings, when the birds are singing and there is a wonderful smell on the air - of summer!
  11. I agree - but at least we will have turned the corner into better days (hopefully!). I always think mid-February is when I really start to notice the extra daylight.
  12. Just another 11 minutes to lose in the afternoon for us, but a whole 35 in the morning! 22 days to go to the Shortest Day!
  13. Please, any weather but this relentless howling wind! I hate it. Bring on some crisp, frosty mornings with blue skies.
  14. Only 8 and a half weeks to the Shortest Day!
  15. Yes, the dark mornings in particular are just dire! I hate getting up in the dark. On the other hand, I just love spring/summer mornings when it gets light early and all the birds are singing and happy. I never pull my curtains either so I get maximum light in my bedroom. The only way I find to cope is a countdown to the shortest day, and after that it gets better every single day!
  16. Oh I hate the darkness. In the winter I don't mind the dark evenings so much when it's frosty and you can get a good fire going, but the mornings are absolutely horrible. I hate waking up in the dark, getting dressed in the dark, eating breakfast in the dark and going out in the dark! I love spring and summer when it gets light at 4.30 and the birds are singing with happiness.
  17. Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers On the Beach by Chris Rea Albatross by Fleetwood Mac All very melancholy feeling!
  18. I too heard the Robin's autumn song for the first time yesterday. I always think it is very melancholy compared with their uplifting spring song.
  19. I have been watching this site with interest for a couple of years now, but finally feel motivated to add my comments regarding this woeful summer even though I have absolutely no scientific knowledge!! What I miss are those beautiful sunny mornings with the smell of summer on the air, when you just know it is going to be a lovely, hot day, and that it will still be nice when you get home from work and can enjoy sitting and eating dinner in the garden! Why don't we get any of the cloudless blue sky days we used to have, and not just one, but a few days in a row or even a week? I have a wardrobe full of summer clothes and not one item has seen the light of day this year yet! Can anyone give me hope??
