west vs east and yes on the met map I am in the area marked as anglian. we have had maybe 2-3 hours rain today on and off with no wind, this supposed to be a storm?

you mean this guys? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/flood-warnings/#?tab=floodWarnings west midlands flood alert (red) east midlands flood warning (orange) (my city is in the area they labelled anglian, the midlands bit is just west midlands) The problem is that site seems too basic, are these warnings for next 2 hours? next 3 days? next week? and its not very targeted reffering to the midlands all as one area. Anyway I am glad its much more pleasant today, even if the rain doesnt reach here, at least the low pressure is cooling things down.

Have the MET even predicted the path? they seem to only do very short forecasts. Since I started taking an interest in weather from last summer, I have yet to see any atlantic storms go across my area, they tend to either go across the south eastwards so below me, or go up the west of the country turning north as soon as they hit the mainland. Any rain my area gets is usually what comes from france and moves up through the midlands.

Last year whilst people were posting pictures of dark grey clouds and thunder I Was posting blue skies so yes. There was even a cloud radar I watched last year on a day where almost the entire uk had cloud cover (rare, usually its west or east but not both) and it was sooo annoying, there was a little hole in the cloud directly over my city. stayed like that all day. Now looking at bertha predictions, guess what, heavy wain in the west, light or no rain in the east. atlantic air often turns north when it hits the country. http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twoother/latest.aspx There was huuuge differences between derby and leicester and derby is closer than birmingham. And no the storm doesnt fizzle out that quick instead it simply doesnt pass over leics, as it moves north not east. although the storms do fizzle out quicker than you think,

Actually its the other way round. To deal with the cold one puts layers of clothes on, and working warms you up. In the heat its a hell of a lot harder to cool down, especially when outside in the sunlight, and if you working it makes it worse as it will generate sweat. For me ideal temp is probably about 5-15C I find 15-22C or so tolerable. I usually dont need central heating unless its cold enough to snow. Which is why I laughed last year when people had it on in september in a warm summer period, and someone on another forum said their central heating was on in june, bonkers. They have it set to switch on when room temp is below 20C O_o

yeah from about 11am onwards it is noticebly warming up and by the time its about 1-2pm its usually unbearable. Up until about 2-3 in the morning. Temperatures seem to bottom out about 4am but 9am always feels more pleasant than 3am for some reason. Sometimes I do wonder if people are trolling on some forums people keep calling hot sticky humid weather "pleasant". Then on here people stating they want 50C, it cannot be real.

which is why these "feel" temperatures are what weather reporters need to report, not basic shade air temperature. The guy on the street cares about how hot he feels not all the science. e.g. here is rarely wind not even a breeze as leics is the most central city in the country furthest from the coast, wind is very rare here. I live at the bottom of a dip in the land as well. Even in winter its usually light wind at the most. Heavy wind is extremely rare maybe 2-3 days a year.

The last 2 days temps have gone up defenitly, night time temps have been unbearable again. 4 august night temp in room with doors and windows open to outside 22.6C 6 and 7 august 26.2 degrees yes this is night time temp. by the way those 2008-2012 summers were great for me I found them way more pleasant.

Yes it does, during all of august last year I watched sattelite images etc. like a hawk, consistently the west midlands got atlantic weather, even derby in the east midlands got it, a guy from derby was even posting on here about heavy rain, and I kept replying to him leics was bone dry and sunny. birmingham gets tons more rain than leicester and is often also 2-3C lower even tho on a map its not t far away. many days I look to the west and see cloud but directly above me and east is blue. I even took pics and posted them on this forum last year. you guys have short memories for sure, you cannot remember only last august was the west of england getting battered with rain? remember all the storm post's? seriously?

ok but I still see it as misleading, a human will be in the sun, even if they have more capacity to absorb heat they will ultimately feel hotter than a temp measured in the shade. does air itself absorb heat, get hotter in sun? if it gets hotter then the air measurement in the shade is not accurate for sure I read on another site somewhere they do it in the air as it helps all the calculations they have to do for weather predictions, so I took from that it is better for people who want to predict weather patterns but less useful for average joe bloggs who will be out in the sunlight. the sigificant variance is explained simple, try standing in the sunlight mid july and tell me you dont feel significantly hotter.

Eugene the west midlands gets "very" different weather to the east. You guys get a lot of the atlantic rain, which 95% of the time misses leicester. e.g. last year which was another abnormal hot summer the west of the country had lots of rain, but leicester was dry until the 3rd week of august it had nearly 8 weeks of continous dry weather. Although may has more longer days than august, most of the time august is the warmer month, as what it seems to me temperatures lag behind seasons. So e.g. june has the longest day of the year but july is almost always hotter than june. Hectortheawesome, you missed the bit where uk has a rep for high humidity and unpleasant summers? (not due to wet weather but hot stuffy air), also the weather between NW and EM and south east is hugely different, often a difference of 5-10C and much less cloud/wind. Right now at 3am, my room temp is 25.2C and outside air temp is 23.6C, so its hard to get over 20C? more like its a miracle to get below it. It was raining for an hour as well, the first day I have had more than 10 mins of rain for over a month. Wasnt heavy rain tho, just a long shower. This predicted storm heading to the uk from the tropics I expect as usual will be overated, predicted floods gales etc. and I guess leics as always it will just be a little shower or something, wouldnt even surprise me if it stays sunny here during this supposed storm.

right now the UK is a very uncomfortable place to be, the heat and high humidity is unbearable, usually august is cooler and provies "some" relief. Although what you guys are wishing for seems to be happening tho this hot air over the country is simply refusing to budge like its stuck with superglue. Does hot air always win fights?

why are people measuring temp in the shade? its a bit misleading given most of outside is not in the shade.

I am sitting here waiting for supposedbly cooler atlantic weather yet everyday is a nightmare just hotter and hotter. Temps i recorded this week (outside front door) 32C on fri 25 31C on wed 23

the most pleasant period is actually daytime morning, especially if facing west. Here its cooler at 9am than it is 3am. Somehow i am falling asleep and managing it, this year I have been wearing thin tshirts to bed instead of nothing and I find it helps a lot, the tshirt absorbs the sweat which is preferable to bed sheeting/matress/pillows etc. absorbing it. Although I am going through about 10-20 tshirts a week.

50C would kill you. 10C isnt freezing cold. Its just chilly.

Sunny, and has been sunny all week, weather news predicted cloud and rain haha. Is this another summer of only sun? At least its much cooler and pleasant this year.

this hot air that has been over the uk since july I see has lasted all the way through winter, no snow and 20C in march

I have had it on for brief spells whilst having baths as can feel cold temporarily after coming out of bath but have yet to have the need to have it on any other times, continues to be a very warm year. A few hours ago went out for a walk in my t-shirt, had to take off cardigan due to sweat. In the last 24-48 hours temps have gone up a lot.

last 2 days temps have shot up. Went out for walk about midnight in t-shirt wasnt cold. Room temp is 17C no heating on. Had to take cardigan off as well due to sweat.

temps going up again, room temp is 19.9C. of course no heating, heating at almost 20C is crazy. but because of the air movement outside it doesnt feel as warm as start of week.

not on and wearing a t-shirt. room temp 18.5 however on some smal occasions I felt bit chilly, outside is now chilly and when I came out of bath I briefly felt cold but warmed up quickly. This temp is pretty much perfect for me indoors.

colder air arrived here today, room temp down by 3 degrees. so now below 20c. was 18.5 at 5am with front door and windows shut. in my opinion the difference is wind, is now some wind outside the first wind for several weeks. If i stand outside in a t-shirt it feels a bit chilly, not cold just chilly. I think weather is perfect for me, feels just about right. I expect a drop of another 10-15C and I then need heating.
