I know it's not an official reading but my garden thermometer which is shaded on the back fence has just hit 34.3c,this is the highest it has ever reached here.

Strange that. Plenty of sunshine here today and I’m about 20 miles up the road from you.
still cloudy here ,yet 3-4 miles away in St Helens it looks sunny

I find it really annoying when the BBC forecast is harping on about England and Wales will be hot and sunny but NI and Scotland will be cooler with cloud , well guess what I live in England and yesterday was cloudy all day and today is similar, there is no heatwave across England , it's localised in the south

Usual Cheshire grotty wall to wall cloud here this morning... And not sure exactly where this "scorching heat" is. Yesterday was much the same until the skies cleared very late on.
It's rubbish isn't it. looks like it's clearing from the NE,at the moment we're under a mix of sunny intervals and cloud

It's been yet another disappointing day in the NW

As the great scouse philosopher Jim Royle would say "Heatwave ,My A***" ,it's warm here but cloudy and certainly not 'exceptional'

It's unusual for us to suffer North Sea muck in Manchester- it happens occasionally but it usually breaks up as it reaches the Pennines. The temp predictions by the GFS are not reliable at the best of times but they don't account for the Pennines very well in those setups IMO. ENE is not a terrible direction for NW England if that's what we do end up with next week. Mid 20s plus is possible with the air mass being so warm I think.
Most of our nice spring weather during lockdown seems to have come as a result of HP drawing in easterlies which breaks up the cloud and leaves us with sunshine here i the NW

The lack of extreme heat forecast here isn't a problem as long as it's sunny , anything above 19-20c with sunshine in my South facing garden feels almost tropical anyway

Are us Manchester folk still going to be suffering North Sea muck and cloud along with high teens and low 20s??
Easterlies are normally good for us here in the Western part of GM thanks to being sheltered by the Pennines,we get quite a lot of sunny days from HP Easterlies

Well depends on what you call a downgrade. Friday looks like the peak of the heat currently with 27-31c likely quite widely breaking down into storm chances for the weekend that will hold back temperatures somewhat but with high humidity will probably feel still very warm with temperatures varying between the mid- high 20s for the majority into the following week but yes not the extreme heat of London & the SE. Nights are going to be uncomfortable for all but unbearable down there with high humidity so a blessing rather than a curse perhaps.
The GFS 6z shows rain over us next weekend

Yes despite the heat, Friday gone wasn't a classic hot summer day in the NW, hazy skies by early afternoon, and as you sat by teatime rain over much of region and significant drop in temps. Coming Friday looks like being a more classic summer day, only blue sky and sunshine dawn until dusk makes for a classic summer day and summer spell. Haze, showers, thunder don't do it even if temps are in the 30s.
I'm not by any means someone who can read all the intricacies of weather charts , however if I'm right then there has been a massive downgrade for us in the NW from what they were predicting yesterday for next week. From what I can see we could well end up under rain bearing fronts whilst the SE basks in 34-38c and sunshine. Is this correct

Really? Oh no, I want a thunderstorm but the chance is slim.
Don't worry you will manage to have your barbaque

They are elevated showers and they are moving too fast sadly. This limits the chance to develop into thunderstorms.
I'd rather they passed through quickly,I was hoping to have BBQ later for me and my wife,we're in quarantine after being stitched up by Boris after returning from Spain last sunday
