  1. l tend to follow both met office and netweather forecasts and read in between the lines from there. but going by what l read on the text forecast it suggests less possibility tomorrow than netweather suggests.
  2. lm confused, by the looks of the GFS charts there is high possibilities of thunder in the hereford area, yet going by the storm forcast/storm percentages supposedly nothing is expected here today.. yesterday was showing a good 60% chance.. now tomorrow seems to show more chance with a 52% chance of something.
  3. l thought the weather was supposed to be settling? according to the met office text forecast theres a risk of an isolated thunderstorm on friday.
  4. by the looks of the forecast it looks to be cloudy all day.. will any activity require the sun to heat things up? kinda hoping things stay quiet myself now lm back online with my main system again
  5. surge protectors do not protect against lightning strikes. yes surge protectors protect against surges and voltage spikes but lightning strikes on a phone line/telegraph pole especially if its close having all the surge protectors in the world wont help as the burst of current would be significantly different, in fact lve had it happen before :/ as for the pets lol, loud bangs and noises start them off barking which eventually turns into tail wagging and nipping at window sills and curtains like its a game.. our draft excluder bit the bust last november bonfire night :/
  6. lm just curious, when is this "thundery" weather due to pass? ld much prefer settled weather now to be honest.. getting kinda tired of it :/ admittedly lm not a fan of storms close to home (lost a few computers to strikes which doesnt help as l need them to do my job) plus pets start damaging the place when they hear loud bangs that being said when are we expecting a lenfthy settled peroid?
  7. not one mention of thunder in the West Midlands forecast, not that l mind lm only here to learn however both mon/tues had mentions of possible thunder last update but all mentions have been all removed despite (from the weather models) there being allot of potential from what l saw on the GFS outputs (that being said lm still a novice and lm only making assumptions based upon whats been said here and how close Swansea is to me hence the confusion of why there is no mention on the met office of thunder any more).
  8. its kinda weird, l dont see any clouds in the immediate vicinity.. havent seen any flashes but lm hearing thunder like sounds close by. wondering what is causing them as there have been quite a few of them l cant explain as aircraft.
  9. thats what makes me curious, because over the past week or so there has been at least some percentage noted despite most being surface based. that being said the lifted index/cape/etc may have been recorded differently.
  10. was looking at the "will it thunder page" along with the "storm forecast" page which suggests that there is 0% chance of storms on thursday (in hereford), been looking at other pages as well which suggest possibilities are moving further east, was just curious if that was the case.
  11. weird just saw 2 flashes outside my window, no sound associated with them tho.. and going by the detectors (Met Office and Blitzortung) they seem to have passed further west.
  12. not really a fan of thunderstorms myself, tho lm interested in them for other reasons, however l can vouch that it was pretty nasty for a good 45mins through hereford. l lost count after about 30 or so strikes.. lm hoping we dont get any more here this year lol everyone else can have them, after all lm only interested in knowing how to predict the possibility of them rather than seeing them.. not that l dont find them interesting.. just dont like them around my computer equipment :pthat being said, the will it thunder page was out on its prediction :/
  13. according to the weather reports lve heard on the radio (local West Midlands station) they seem to suggest the pollution will be still high along with GFS downgrades again if lm reading things right from the various weather maps lm starting to understand (or at least l hope l lm starting to understand them)..
  14. GFS seems to be pushing activity further east again, north of birmingham, thursdays just seems to be further east.
  15. they dont look to be as far west as originally projected at least.
  16. lm wondering when these thundery shows are projected to start in the west midlands, a general timeframe to be around. according to netweather there is potential from around midnight onwards then more so towards the morning, however the GFS lifted index charts dont seem as bad as they did yesterday, now correct me if lm wrong but even this chart suggests storms will be a little further north theoretically meaning they might miss there herefordshire area (tho l hope on reading it right, triangles with the dots mean rain and the red arrow is convective weather?)
  17. firstly sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in but l was having trouble deciding which forum this topic suited as my enquiry relates to trying to find a software for my computer. basically l recently downloaded a detector which was android based which connects to the blitzortung data for lightning strike detection, now l was wondering if there was something similar for the PC? something l could set alarms on if storms came within a certain radius which would sound and let me know to turn off my PC so l could go out and watch, tho mainly its because l want to keep my computer equipment safe as l use it to work lol. it would just be useful to know ahead of time rather than refreshing websites and having to leave my browser open..
  18. thankyou for the very informative post, just what l was looking for.
  19. lm by no means knowledgeable on the subject but lve acquired an interest in trying to predict weather types that cause thunderstorms/lightning. about all l know so far is a little about reading lifted index and l have been using the following site: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?LANG=en&MENU=0000000000&CONT=euro&MODELL=gfs&MODELLTYP=1&BASE=-&VAR=lftx&HH=6&ARCHIV=0&ZOOM=0&PERIOD=&WMO= however going by what l see on weatheronline it doesnt seem to match what netweathers "will it thunder" charts show. lm currently situated in the west midlands, and from what lm seeing netweather predicts reasonable potential matching today at the second on monday where as weather online doesnt give the same readings, in fact its showing more potential on tuesday and wednesday yet the lifted index charts on weatheronline are currently showing none over land at this moment. suffice to say ld like a little information on reading other types of charts that are used to predict potential for electrical storms, any information and help would be greatly appreciated.
  20. given his comments, l still cant see why they are making cuts to the departments.. :/ but oh well its a weather forum and not a political one.. none the less l couldnt help making this comment.
  21. looks like quite a bit of damage, l actually have friends in Aberystwyth, l actually lived just outside town before moving back in 2006, visited a few times tho so seeing the damage and whats left of the road is kinda surprising.
  22. west midlands, hereford. everyone except the media seems to think it just passed on by.
  23. radio still says something is coming by the west midlands, pretty much after every song.. tho about all lve seen fly past my window is a few crisp packets and plastic bags.
  24. dont suppose anythings coming up to herefordshire, touch wood its been much less windy than yesterday so far, considering what lve read so far lm thankful.
  25. not very windy in hereford, at least not compared with yesterday, but l keep on hearing the local radio station say that its supposed to hit between 5am (now) and 10am, been wondering if there is any truth in that considering its hit quite a few places further along the coast.
