  1. Do you really think?! However, despite a disappointingly mild start to the winter season, more promising patterns lie ahead of us. Truth be told, that funny A cannot be stagnant over Europe forever and we are quite lucky in that it's following its bizarre walk toward Scandinavia, or so it would seem. At this very minute we seem to be cooling down, recording the daily minimum temp at 11.8 having maxed at 14 around 12.30pm. We just recorded another 2mm for today's meagre count of 3.6mm thanks to a hearty band of precip associated to the front that is watering most of the British Is. Still, it counts toward the days with measurable rain this month, which is at 18 out of 19 and probably will be 19 out of 20 tomorrow. Looking forward to some hill snow on Christmas Day/Boxing Day though, loving rural Scotland, at least you don't miss chances you'd always miss by miles in places like Liverpool/Manchester -which is where I used to live for a while. Edinburgh, which I also had the pleasure to dwell on, was an utter hole of milder and drier weather, especially Cowgate/Old Town, Town planning does not help either. Very noticeable difference with open areas such as Marchmont or Bruntsfield, which made it very interesting. Good to be able to go up Swanston or Penicuik on the bus, the Pentlands are amazing. But the Ochils are better. Have a pleasant evening, Pedro
  2. To be fair though they have had two cracking years in a row so they can well enjoy some above average temps like the rest of mortals for a change! Also nice to see the West side of the country faring better in snow terms - good news for good ol' Cali. Back to our side of the pond a truly horrendous look but in any luck we might get a cool shot around Christmas...
  3. True stuff - even a 100 miles matter at this stage, look at us in the tropical Central Belt; no snow lying below 150m so far this season and a total non-event last night with pishing rain at 0º. Not even the hills had a covering below 400m this morning, at least in southern facing slopes and you could tell that there had been some melting going on. Even so another fairly wintry day with a max of 4.5º and a min. of 1.9º in the Academy, have not bothered with the sensor today but as it has been quite dull I do not think the impact of the building has affected the readings beyond the acceptable +-1º range. Also, 4.5mm, could not have two dry days in a row, could we now!
  4. Sensor says we have maxed at -0.6º, school says 0.8º. Now back down to -2.1 sensor and 0.4º Academy. Academy weather station can eff off, I know we've had a lovely ice day! Hurry up front, hurry up!
  5. Same question applied to the Ochil Hills please? Still negative values at -0.4 Academy and -1.2 sensor garden. Praying for precipitation to come asap, it would lie so nicely right now!!!
  6. Station here is reading 5.8 for the month - very happy to have moved to Scotland tbh, despite the whole crazy CET's it feels quite wintry with snow in the hills pretty often, settling above 200-400m Tonight's min.
  7. So finally -3,7 recorded by the weather station and -6 by the sensor. Everything is ice-coated. Find a few pics of my walk yesterday to Whitewisp Hill in the Ochils and this morning's frost. 1. Saddle Hill / Whitewisp Hill 2. Burn of Sorrow and the King's Seat from Saddle Hill 3. Freezing level at some 600m. (Saddle Hill at 560 was at 0.4, the top of Whitewisp at 640, -0.4) 4. My back garden and Bank Hill.
  8. Dropping like a stone indeed, the station on top of the roof of the Academy is reading -0.8º but I borrowed a sensor off the Geography dept and its now hanging happily from the clothes hanging pole over nice grass at 1.6m. It says -4º, which considering the clear skies is not a difference that surprises me. Walked up Whitewisp Hill (640m) today, the freezing level at 12pm was at 600m. Temperature dropped noticeably above 500m though. Gullies of snow of 30cm in places but some places barely had more than a crust of ice. That above 450m, below that snow was patchier in nature with the snowline at some 300m. Oh, I also saw some snow while on the top, when the front got at its most northerly point. Truly worth the three-hour walk!
  9. Is the band of precipitation not further north than expected? Temp. 1.7º. Have a pleasant saturday!
  10. Another day of falling snow in dollar min of 1.4 at 5pm, now sitting at a balmy 2.6º. Max of 8.3º at 00.10am Today's rain 14,6mm so far.
  11. After a short squally burst cold air is clearly filtering through, temp dropped from 10.5º to 8.8º in less than half an hour. Another day of copious rain at 17.6mm for the time being, would not be surprised if we hit the magical 20 in the next four hours. 122.2mm so far this month. http://dollarweather.co.uk/data/NOAAMO.TXT Hopefully this front will deliver a few surprises, as Clodagh did!
  12. Dull with average temps at 7.9º. Rain measurement is 7.4mm. There are two small snow patches on the King's Seat. Can't believe they have survived all this rain and mush although to be fair we have had cold spells of weather in between the rain.
  13. Would have gutted if we hadnt had a rain gauge yesterday lads! Unsurprisingly, the Devon has burst its banks pretty badly. Considering that the record height at Menstrie is 4.2 and that we managed to get to 4 last night, Tilly is not far from being flooded from what I have seen today to be honest. I hope we do not get as much rain in a good while. However it is ridiculous, we almost have 100mm recorded rain in the first week of the month. Might post a few pics tomorrow. T. 6.2º R. 8.4mm Have a pleasant Sunday!
  14. Awesomely shocking day, I do not think that Dollar records 40mm of rain in a day every year. The Devon in Menstrie is nearing high levels, http://apps.sepa.org.uk/waterlevels/default.aspx?sd=t&lc=14891 and I am quite sure that some more cm's of water are still to come down from Glendevon. Mild but exciting, it will be a nice, floody walk tomorrow when I go to Tilly.
  15. Glad to see some of my peer cold weather aficionados got a wee surprise this evening - no such thing happened in the Hillfoots villages though. In Dollar, we have had a good few hours of rain-rain which has accumulated up to 9.6mm and the temp dropped to 2.9, where it remains now. I can sort of see some fresh snow lying on top of the King's Seat and Whitewisp Hill, above 350m in my roughest estimate, so impressive to see that you have done so well at 150-200m just a few miles down south. PS. The weather station website is up and running, now it needs to go on Scottish Weather Network and WOW Some of the kids at school are loving it! http://dollarweather.co.uk/ a bit barebones but the most important thing is there: DATA! It will be done up in the next few weeks though
  16. FCUK. Went down to 1.2 / 0.5 and heavy snow for half an hour from 4.3 at 6:30am now back to sleety fun at 2.4, WHY OH WHY. Ochils dressed in a very suitable white dress though off to the hills we go!
  17. Dollar was greeted last night with a copious snowfall that fell around 21.30pm with the slightest accumulation down in Lower Dollar (45m). My friends drove up to Muckhart Road 100m above and there was a bit of frozen snow on grassy surfaces, it was freezing cold. Beautiful Ochils snow covered under the moonlight, shame it was not to last until the morning, as there was nae snaw under 500m and a cold cold rain soaked it all - shame as we would be enjoying winter wonderland if temps had been 3º lower. So how bad is it meant to get tomorrow? Has it been a last minute upgrade for us in the N Central Belt then? I am planning on going for a wee walk with a few friends tomorrow to the hills, where do you reckon that snaw level will be at and around midday? Cheers!
  18. Beautiful Ochils in a beautiful day. Went up Bank Hill via the Glen and the Castle, the snowline was at some 140m but up until 200m you could see how after the snow it had rained a bit. Plus it was well frozen. However, on entering the Burn of Sorrow, snow became powdery and more firm. Lovely walk. See a few photos attached. 1. Snowline 2. Burn of Sorrow 3.Ochils from mine.
  19. Well, back to rain but it has been nice to see snow fall for a bit. Hoping to see the Ochils with a good dusting in the morning though sn0wman, are you sure it is settling in Stirling?! I would be surprised considering that it has not settled here but who knows...
  20. Any potential for snow in my area thanks to this band of snow thats heading down? No way am i going to sleep until it arrives!
  21. What implications would have a Polar Low? Thanks! Dollar had recorded 5.5mm at 3.30pm, after two more showers that figure is likely closer to 8 by now. Cold day, beautiful skies. Looking forward to the weekend more than usual!
  22. Min of 4,1 at Dollar. Temps plummeted overnight!must be hovering around 6 now but I am in tillicoultry actually came down walking and the river devon is in quite high spirits.
  23. Do you reckon Scotland is almost 4 degrees above average for the time of year or am I wrong in assuming that CET is not a good reference for us? / SO EXCITED about next week!
