.....isolated rainfall amounts of 40 INCHES !!!! in parts of Haiti and 25 inches in parts of Jamaica.

That's like throwing a bathtub of rain down every second,  not raindrops. ..

My location in the west of Scotland which is pretty wet  by national averages receives about 1 meter of rain annually. to get that in about 48hrs  really is unbelievable

Woke up around 2 ish to a crazy storm. Lasted about 30 mins... Lots of lightning, really loud thunder and some of the most torrential rain I've seen in years...couple with gusty winds...I say seen, but really heard, as the power was cut and the area  was in black. Which made the storm even more impressive! Seemed to be an impressive amount of strikes in our area and to the west of me ... Anyone else experience this?

Sure did one of the best storms I've seen in ages I was woken around 2:30 with the baby monitor bleeping after the power was cut thought I could here thunder in the distance then a big flash .if there is a good thing to be woken up in the middle of the night a surprise thunderstorm has got to be it

Yep probably hanging around here reading forecasts potential and reports isn't doing me any good but it's a habit i seemed to have developed perhaps i should try and stop

Don't stop posting Gordon it's a forum about the weather love it or loathe it .what is the worst that can happen getting killed by lightning  me personally I can think of worse ways to die and I know there would be some chuckles at my funeral

  6. Nature will balance  itself out  and all the sun starved people on the north and east coast will soon b rejoicing when summer starts and the warm mist and drizzle rolls into the west of Scotland over the next 3 months. I'm just making the most of this lovely weather here in the trossachs  best may for a number of years max temp of 24.9c today not far behind last year's max of 25.5c

  7. I see Kim Jung loon found GPs torpedo and fired it right into the stratosphere to stop any kind of sudden warming. He knows that most of the people in the UK would love to see cold weather in winter and by doing this really hits us  where it hurts. cover them up Sydney but not from the cold . Ps as much as I hated seeing the charts that knocker kept posting the majority of them were spot on  for mildes this winter will be the benchmark for years to come

The Met Office forecast for here today may as well have been made up using an overly excited spaniel, a wind sock and some crayons such is it's accuracy. 1.5C with occasional snow showers, certainly more wintery than their take on things

N.S do you not know that there is a yellow sorry amber warning soon to be RED warning and a c.o.b.r.a. meeting for the people down sarf. I just hope dave has got plenty hairspray on his quiff when he addresses the nation on the immenint devastation with all this severe weather going on there i dont think they really care what's happening elsewhere

  9. Snowing again just now nice surprise after a couple of inches of wet snow this morning with temperatures below 0c until about lunchtime then a little wintry mix and a max temp of 1.1c currently -0.4c and only going one way now .

I agree about the smug weather presenters saying it's going to be mild it is the met office and bbc  default setting and only at the very last minute (or sometimes not at all) they will mention cold and snow . you won't see the sportscene guys looking as smug when Celtic win the premiership when  they stuck their neck on the line and predicted it.  sorry for the rant I  ficking hate the mild super duperty weather

  10. Still moderate snow just now although the wet variety and sticking to everything including the telephone line that is sagging to about 6 foot of the ground . One thing I'll have to admit to is that Stirling district finest council workers have done a good job clearing the side roads over the weekend (maybe the double time) it must be Monday now because I've yet to see a gritter and people have to get to work.

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know anything about snowshoeing (however it's spelt)?  Looking around on the internet and it doesn't seem to be too common in Scotland at least...

In other news, er no news.  Quite a non-event today, looking out the window.

The only experience's I've had with snowshoeing is when i was in maine in January 2009 myself and my partner had to purchase them(about £100 a pair) just to go for a walk the first  couple of days getting used to them certainly tested the bladder control watching each other fall and roll about the snow like an upturned turtle trying to get back upright  once you did get the hang of them they certainly were essential and easy to use .we never purchased the walking   poles to go with them which most of the locals had no point as i did not think i would get the chance to use them in Scotland  i was wrong they've been used once dec 2010 would recommend giving it a go if you get the chance
