Lit my log burner Thurs/Fri evening for an hour or two, just burnt a few off cuts and scrap wood, took the chill off nicely!
If I recall you use e-coal on your burner? I experimented with it last winter and was quite pleased. How much do or how many coals do you put on at a time? I burn logs until I go to bed and then put the e-coal to burn overnight but not sure I was putting enough on.

We have had extremely heavy rain and it has now just started to thunder. Knew something was coming in from the west as the sky was looking like armageddon was on the way.

Thunder in Brum
Can see how black looking it is towards Brum. Nothing over here though and the sun is still out.

TBH you get a better weather forecast from most people here... the BBC arent what they were, and we have so much model information to hand, most of us can give a decent forecast for the week ahead, and the Anomalies usually give you an accurate general pattern for the 6-14 day period.
I will second that. Always read through the posts in here to see what the weather is looking to do going forward.

We had torrential rain with a few flashes of lightening and rumbles of thunder sometime between 1-2 am. It only lasted 20 mins or so at the most before moving away.

Still waiting for my decent rainfall event! The garden needs sorting but its like concrete so cannot even contemplate it at the moment. As others have commented, the promise of decent rain is there 3 or 4 days ahead only for it to dissipate as soon as it gets closer Afraid I can’t wait for this summer and infernal dry weather to do one.

Desperate for rain again. Saturday hopefully looks like it will deliver a good dousing though….fingers crossed.

Lovely lovely heavy rain falling now, beautiful.

We had some rain yesterday evening, it has rained on and off overnight I think and is raining now. Not nearly enough yet to soak deep into gardens for the bushes and trees but enough to freshen smaller plants etc. Still having to water hanging baskets and pots though. We are doing better than some on the rain front.

YEa it's that hurdle bit that I don't get. I mean I've been filling my watering can ... from the the hose ... and using that before ... Still a hurdle?
My neighbour has been doing the same! And using it for his watering can. Pond is ok if you have fish. If not then no. Not filled ours up
My pond is full of fish and the odd newt or two.

For the last few days now, afternoon showers were forecast for my location today with around an 80% chance. But yet again (which has been all too common this year), that has been cancelled and it's now forecast to be dry all day with only a 25% chance.
Wouldn't surprise me if 2022 ends up being the driest year on record.
Went up the garden an hour ago to put foster kitties to bed for the night and felt two raindrops on me - yay!

Did anyone see you do it though? If we get a ban, I will have to use the hosepipe to fill the pond but I think I may be okay with that one?

Was exactly the same here. Another day that promised much but delivered zilch yet again. We've had 2.7mm here in August.
1 hour ago, Nick L said:Ironically, we've just had enough drizzle in the last hour to add 0.2mm to our monthly total.
Same here. The forecast at the end of last week for yesterday looked quite good for a decent drop of rain but by Sunday we were forecast very little rain. We had an occasional light shower yesterday but not even enough to wet the garden slabs

Unless they are cellar spiders, who kill house spiders…..
Didn’t know that, will look out for them. The cats alert me to spiders and I can then step in…..

Can I also a ask a question in here? Apologies if not.
With this exceptional heat and repeated heatwaves over the summer will this have any bearing on our winter period? Could it equate to above average temperatures over winter. I often read about SST’s having an effect on winter snow as air travels across the north sea etc.
Surely after the heat battering we have had the SST’s surrounding us will be higher than normal?

Don’t mind spiders, catch them and put them outside. It is flies I hate
Superstition has it spiders are lucky and as the saying goes …..if you want to live and thrive let the spider run alive….

Lovely, at last…. RAIN! Not anywhere near enough yet to soak into the garden but hopefully enough to dampen things down. Lovely cold breeze as well.

Here's hoping that you and your babies get some nice refreshing rain soon.
The rain here is only light, but it's better than nothing.
It has arrived but goodness me what a poor effort it is!!

No heating or log burner in use yet but jumpers, socks and thick cardigans are in use!
