  1. Yeah, looking at the radar, showers do seem to be forming or appearing just off the coast from here (Deal), the line is slowly edging south meaning more of SE Kent should be in play later.. unless of course that is just the swinging of the prevailing winds.
  2. Thanks, I was hoping it might although with the nature of showers they are hit and miss. Cloud tops are pink now so I'll let the sun go to work. Window watching for the next 2 hours ?
  3. This may be a stupid question from a complete novice.. does the sun coming up aid convection in these circumstances? IE would we see showers strengthen slightly after dawn?
  4. Morning all. What a stunning morning! Dry, bright, sub zero. Managed to crack my phone screen yesterday, typically before a crucial period of radar watching! Sods law I guess. Wrap up warm, keep an eye on your neighbours and elderly relatives, stay safe and enjoy any wintery weather. Fingers crossed most people see a decent amount during this coming week.
  5. I don't know much about weather, however I believe the uppers forecasted during the arrival of the low should keep any precipitation as snow. Although the low is mild and pushes well into the cold sector on current runs, it seems unlikely to me that it will reintroduce warmth enough for rain and sleet.
  6. Don't focus on the precipitation, most of which in this scenario will be forming as troughs come over the North Sea/Channel. Most models and the apps that use the data can't accurately forecast PPN until within 48h. Get the cold in first and then worry about the snow.
  7. Because this side of the weekend (still 4/5 days out) it's usually much harder to forecast exact PPN locations and rates. The charts will give a general idea up until 48h away, then firm up.
  8. Morning all! So, only 80 hours or so to go before the (drumroll) 'Deep Cold'. Fascinating to see how things develop towards and during the weekend. Great to see the clouds above scudding westwards and a real nip to the wind already. I don't want to compare this cold spell to anything else, weather events are all different anyway and it's great to appreciate beauty in the unique.. it's so close now you can almost see flakes drifting (I've not had enough sleep clearly)
  9. Current predictions could range from 1-2 days of light snowfall, all the way through to around a week of showers. Of course, due to the nature of snow, regional differences are likely, some places may see little to no snow, whereas others may see some accumulation. An uneducated guess from me - if you are based in Essex, expect to see some light flurries over the coming weekend, although not much, and then if current models are correct, the possibility of a more organised snowfall during Monday night or Tuesday. Until we reach Thursday or Friday this week, it's almost impossible to nail the details.
  10. I'm remaining hugely sceptical in the face of all this.. accumulating evidence. So many of the runs from all the models look amazing, but if I had a penny for every time I've been disappointed by a 'cold spell' possible 'snow shower' or a huge 'spanish plume' thunderstorm that either missed by miles or never materialised.. I'd be a rich man! (I'm a poor man damnit) so for now it's fingers crossed and keep patiently watching for evolution of patterns. I was born in '89 so missed the 87 snows and was too young to fully recall 91. I'm also a hobby landscape and wildlife photographer, so this forthcoming promise of winteryness is tantalising as ever! Just stay grounded and expect sleet ?
  11. Hat, gloves, thermals on standby... I'm also quite glad that the next premises has just installed a heating floo which exits just by my workstation. Cheeky handwarmer/heated seat if needed.
  12. Morning all. Clear, bright and full of birdsong this morning in Deal. I have to say, I work outside on an eastern facing seafront in a yard behind a chippy. I'm really looking forward to some slightly more interesting weather! Don't get me wrong, the last couple days of springlike warmth have been great, but when you see the snow squalls scudding across the channel ? Anyhow, that's yet to be determined. Remember if we do take the beasterly plunge, to check in with elderly relatives, check on pets and garden wildlife. I guess if this colder period somehow doesn't materialize - I'm already on to hunting those first big Tstorms of spring! Haha.
  13. It must be quite gusty just judging how quickly the front has sprinted across the radar this morning. When I woke about 7 I thought it was behind schedule.. now I realise it's just rapid!
  14. Haha I specifically didn't say snow! I just mean that because of the colder uppers there is likely to be frozen material in amongst the rain. Defo not expecting a beautiful wintery flurry, more like the most frozen of dour downpours ?
  15. Morning all. I'm eager to see how today's front passes through, I'm sure we will have plenty of wet wet rain.. but I also have an inkling that we may see some wintery PPN similar to Sundays showery convection. It certainly still feels chilly out but I wouldn't expect to see any accumulations or anything like that! Just maybe a few flakes this afternoon. Have a good day everyone!
  16. Interesting for us in the far SE to see how Tuesday's front negotiates the narrowest part of the channel and whether it can mix in some colder french air. Having seen the countryfile week ahead forecast, I feel it's my last chance of wintry weather for the time being! Saw some lovely flakes falling today so I guess that's somewhat lucky compared to recent winters.
  17. If we can keep these showers through the evening, I wouldn't rule out the merest of coverings tomorrow morning. Feeling a couple of degrees colder in the last hour, not quite enough for the last two showers to settle mind. Impressive day for weather watching, mild and sunny to start and then from about 1:30pm we've had hail and graupel showers interspersed with sunshine. Great to see some decent wintery PPN, even if it was never going to settle at sea level.
  18. And I'm... Singing in the rain! COYS And to stay on topic it has been clear and sunny although cold to start, but the front and rain reached here (Deal) on the Kent coast at 1pm and it has been drizzly and overcast since, with occasional gusts and heavier bursts. Here's hoping for a snow event to mark the winter properly for us SEsterners but I won't ramp anything, still sceptical!
