Agreed, veg has been more miss than hit this year, although a lot of my friends seem to have had a decent show.

    Here:

    Asparagus - excellent

    Beans - rubbish

    Beetroot - good

    Cucumbers (indoor) - excellent

    Garlic - poor

    Tomatoes (indoor) - v good

    Tomatoes (outdoor) - rubbish

    Salads - OK

    Brassicas - rubbish

    Leeks - passable

Squashes - mediocre (lack of rain)

    Herbs - very good

Soft fruit - apples (non existent), currants (mediocre), raspberries (poor), blackberries (moderate).

Tomatoes seem to be poor everywhere I read comments some people with hardlly any.

Best for me were the yellow ones like sungold and gigantics but think worse I have had for years.

All down to what... to much rain or not settled enough.

Apples, cherries none,  plums loads, raspberries loads.

I'll go with a warm June, matching 2005, 15.5 degrees, indeed a turnaround from May just has happened in 2005. Not expecting another 2018 or 2020 in terms of consistent settled weather, but there will be a fair amount, possibly more so in the first half as currently indicated by the charts, with some temporary shortlived very warm, possibly hot conditions - but not widespread. Perhaps quite a thundery month, some atlantic incursions at times, variable rainfall as a result. Quite a mixed month, a bit of everything for heat and thunder lovers.

Sounds like the MO 30 dayer.

  3. Thank you Tom, having spent days studying the facts, previous winners,  the charts, the histories, ringing up several weatherman, nasa, the space station and more importantly my kids who didnt see me for days after taking their recommendations and studying them.

Seriously Tom I know its your love of these things but its also a lot of time spent sorting these out.
So thank you for your time and whats the betting next year I end up with nil points.

Oh I forgot to mention my friends, family, producers, my agents and the papers.

    Temp -1c

    Dewp -11c

Now that is impressive, I know loads are dissing this cold spell but it takes something to get those sort of temp/dp spreads in this country.

Yep get the right cold temps, beautifully frozen and dry, then what happens its goes wrong and mild just takes over with no fight.

This is the most disappointing end to a good cold spell, would never have believed it could fizzle out in this way.

If you now got last weekends rain and snow now, that would be something special.

  5. Thats a fair point Dub and Staines, forgot about all that water running down. but isnt it near the lock anyway so reduced flow at times.

I find it strange that thinking back to 2018, 13, 1991 1987 and the lasting cold of 85,86, 95 ?

Why would it have frozen this time, as I think many would agree its not been "that cold" in terms of low temps until the last day or so and the point you have made in regards to a strong flow..

Easterly wind is really affecting the temp down here as well, Shoeburyness just hit 1.3c in an East wind and my weather station has crept above freezing for the first time since 7am on Sunday morning. We are now at 0.2c here.

But crucially the Dewpoint is -5c so no chance of anything other than Snow falling.

Stupid question but how come the temp has gone up over freezing, I thought there were no mild sectors now.
Also I am not impressed with the temps they dont seem cold enough lol.

The snow is still melting here from ground up esp near buidlings it seems that the ground is so so wet and no real cold to get dwn and freeze the ground.

By the way is it a record yet because it hasn't stopped snowing here since sun am, although it could snow like this for the whole month and we wouldn't get much laying.

  7. Does it ever stop raining.
Considering we dont have a zonal train of lows raging over us, I have never known as much rain to fall and for it often to be just above it being cold enough to snow a lot of the time.

Just imagine if the last few weeks was cold enough for it to be snow.

I dont care if the cold comes and we dont get much snow just so it stops raining.

Never mind wait till April when we get a month of no rain and we get the please dont use much water there could be a water shortage......

Morning all. Some exciting winter charts this morning. The one below from ECM would normally come with a health warning ! As yet UKMO not saying anything ! but their model at 144t looks to be heading for a Scandinavian High similar to ECM . Saturdays frontal activity seems to have been forced further south and Tues/ Wed becoming more of a widespread threat for central parts. Will get an update from the team later this morning with their view on the latest snow computer run.

    Enjoy the charts .

    Morning,

the Dutch news mentioned that the whole of Feb would be very cold with their national pastime of skating being back as its not been done for many years.
It that something that your local weather company has suggested, ie this cold wont be a blip and gone.

  9. Well its media based even if it is Dutch.
Just heard on the news on a Dutch radio station that they are forecasting February to be a very cold month and the normal past time of skating will be able to be done.

That's great news because any wind that comes from there will be bitterly cold, the interesting thing is I have never heard them predicting the whole of  Feb to be cold, that's a pretty bold statement.

Another woeful performance from the BBC yet again - They really seem to have an agenda of climate pushing to me.

Last night on there charts they had 0c to -1c when in reality it was -2c to -5c

Today they had 4-6c when reality is 0c to 2c

Its not just in the winter as well, seems to be a recurring theme throughout the year, we know climate has changed but why the need to over egg the temps by 3-4c all the time.

Are the 9c and 10c they are pushing on Wednesday going to be 5-6c as well.

This really bugs me from them and has done over the past 5 to 10 years.

    Thats what I always thought.

However I think I read on here, that the quoted temps are always the Cities and never like in the old days just general.

So when they show say -1c for London they should say and several degress colder in the favoured spots or warmer/colder on the coast.

Like in the summer they show London at 33c where here in Shoebury and even Leigh its only 25 to 28c.

I really dont like the way they do the temps on there now now I have to agree.
