My stag do is on this weekend in Carlingford. What's the chances of a freak snow event on the east coast on Sunday? We'll just have to stay on drinking...dam it!

The week ahead forecast on BBC was a thing of beauty! Looks like we'll be hit hard! Showing heavy snow right across the country, even to the east coast.

Feeling very relaxed about this upcoming snow event. Usually I'd be up high doe checking forecasts every half an hour! The deep, long lying snow earlier this month has settled my nerves big time. Hopefully you guys out east get more luck this time!

Updated met office warning. 5-10 cms for low levels across N Ireland. 10cm + for elevations.

Some difference in the east and west. Leaving work in Lisburn this afternoon at 4pm and it was 7℃ at Moira. By the time I was home it was 1℃ at 4.50pm. Still plenty of lying snow.

I am working up in Bangor today. Looking at the radar there appears to be heavy precipitation around mid Ulster. Is this falling as snow?
-
Precipitation appears to be regressing back west on the radar.
-
Weather warning still in place saying low levels in west 1-2cm and higher ground 5cm snow.
-
According to the BBC forecast we (west/mid Ulster) should experience precipitation as snow tonight.

Steve, how do you read the models for N Ireland? The reason I ask is your chart doesn't tally with the MetO.
We are under a yellow warning for 5-10cms of snow for Monday night/Tuesday morning
Curious to understand the difference of opinion?
Btw, always enjoy your posts, very helpful to a complete novice!

Trough is moving from north Scotland down the UK and Ireland. According to BBC forecast it will pass through around 4-5am.
Outside at the minute really reminding me of 2010. Lots of snow and bonechillingly cold. Minus 11 forecast for rural NI tomorrow night and looks like plenty of snow to come on Monday evening.

From reading the models thread it appears the small warm sector that preceded the front has all but vanished and we'll all be under significant cold conditions when the front passes through.
This link shows the charts for 7pm Monday evening:

Interestingly the MetO have issued a warning for snow on Monday night. Looks like the slider is back in business!
"Updated 1 hour ago
A band of rain, sleet and snow will arrive into western parts of Northern Ireland during Monday evening, then spread east across all parts overnight. At low levels there is likely to be a mixture of rain and snow, but accumulations of snow of around 2 cm are possible locally. Over higher ground, above 150 metres, there is a risk of up to 5 cm. As clearer weather follows from the west later in the night, temperatures will fall, leading to a risk of icy stretches.
The public should be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions and travel disruption"
With the hard frosts forecast we could have a nice wee top up of our current lying snow.

Went to bed last night and actually loooked like a thaw had fully set in. However, woke this morning to the biggest pasting yet. Easily 6 inches lying here. Slabs of snow falling of nearby roofs. Great sight.

According to BBC forecast THIS morning the showers will ease off during the day. However, a front moves through this evening with continuous heavy showers from the Northwest. This to last well into tomorrow afternoon. Hard to tell how far east they will travel, you are due some luck! Us Westies have got all the luck this winter.

Holy crap...another big fall of snow! The radar looks like it ain't going to stop soon! With the forecast the way it is we could see huge totals by next week. Hopefully there'll be v little thawing during the day due to low maxima temps.

Do any of you know any good radar websites out there that show precipitation further out into the Atlantic? I use accuweather and raintoday but both cut off about 100 miles west of the west coast.

Didn't feel like snow at all tonight, gound absolutely saturated. However, it's turned to snow here and it's already turning the grass and cars white. If it's starting to stick already we could get some good accumulations by tomorrow evening and this to be followed by deep cold. Great stuff.
Edit: sad news coming through that a man has died in Lisburn following a tree collapsing on his van. Timely reminder of the power of the weather. May he RIP.

Just saw the BBC weather forecast and it looks like we could get some significant snow overnight and through tomorrow. Rural lows of -10 forecast for Sunday morning!!!!
This potential slider on Monday night/Tuesday could be epic!!

Saw this on Twitter earlier. Fergie mentions the apparent higher temps being moderated by massive wind chill. Dew points looking very low as well so hopefully conducive to holding the snow cover until the real cold floods in this weekend.
