How do Caxton cards work? Might be safer than taking $500 in cash...

They are a pre-paid credit card. You can load an amount of dollars on to them as and when required. The card can be used in any place that would typically take a credit card, but you can also use it at an ATM to draw out dollars if you need to. Top-ups can be done online and the money becomes available to use shortly after.

Decent risk setting up for Minnesota and NW Iowa for Friday so we will be making the small 1100 mile trip north over the next 2 days to be in position. Possible Northern Lights as well on Saturday Night, its not just about the Severe weather but Space weather as well

Stick to Minnesota.  You know my thoughts on Iowa.......:nonono:

Not seeing the severe outbreaks of the last couple of weeks to continue, but much more isolated severe events.

The best events this year have been the little ones. This week just gone was a prime example.

Tour 3 looks like hard work, but the CFS is showing good signs of a good Northern Plains stretch for tour 4.

    Interesting

I can go Birmingham to Dublin to Heathrow to DFW for £613 (2 stops, 22hrs)

Or I can go Heathrow to DFW for £780 (direct 10hrs)

Where is the logic in that?!
The question is, is a simpler quicker route worth the £170 saved.

Have you tried searching for Dublin to DFW alone? There should be some flights that don't involve a silly trip via Heathrow. You just have to get to Dublin somehow! Separate searches for some reason gives better results.

  5. I studied Meteorology as a mature student as the University of Reading. To do this I took A-Level Maths using a distance learning course fro the National Extension College. It really wasn't that expensive, and I could work at my own pace while still employed. The downside is you have to arrange to sit to your own exams, which I did via a local school.

Physics was more troublesome, as most qualifications require lab work. I was lucky in that I was accepted on a Science Foundation Degree which brought me up to speed in the maths and physics required for meteorology. Sadly the course is no longer run at Reading, but I believe Leeds still has one with progression into meteorology.

  6. Not really. They're not expensive so go with genuine Canon. The main question is wired or wireless. For tripod storm photography I use a wired release as the wireless one tend to need you to be in front "selfie" style

    Chris

Thanks. I was thinking wired as it seems easy enough.

So did tour 4 fill up in the end? Less than 3 weeks to go  :D

Pretty sure it did. I can't wait!

  7. Not a bad location IMO, although watch those obs for a DL adjustment!

Last evening of virtual targets. Tomorrow for ten days it's for real!

Yh, bit of a gamble on this one. Hopefully the storms won't be as likely to be HP further south, although initiation is questionable in western OK. Good environment there if something does fire.

  8. Ok I'll be in the bar!

I prefer the direct route rather than having to do immigration en route, did that last time via JFK and nearly missed connection flight as the systems were down. Sure you'll be fine!

    Chris

I'm 1 out of 2 for making connections there, with the good one only being because I sprinted to the gate. Have 2 hours 15 which should be okay if we have no delays.

We are likely to dump our bags at the hotel then go straight out for dinner. But the bar might tempt me!
