    I always thought similar with the heat generated by large cooling towers at power stations , heavy industry etc. With the loss of heavy industry in the 80s / early 90s and the two large coal fired power stations around here it might explain the down turn in decent storms (though yesterday was rather nice ) . Would explain our rose tinted view on storms being a lot better back then ?

    An overnight storm even if its in the distance will be very welcome here , apart from a couple of distant strikes over Kidderminster I managed to see earlier this year we've had nothing overnight .

    BBC 1pm news weather was showing lightning symbols over the West Mids from Midnight onwards through until at least 5-6 am

    Blimey !!! 2 days on the trot and met office warnings for storms over us for Thursday and Friday . I believe the summer 2016 storm drought has well and truly ended .

    Reports from west Mids fire via twitter that 3 houses have been struck by lightning across the West Midlands .

    Watching that storm over Stratford upon Avon , will it make it up here , will it be defeated by the West Mids storm shield or will it do the usual and make a right turn to head up over Nuneaton towards Leicester ??

    just had a deep distant boom of thunder , must of come from one of the strikes over by Bridgnorth ?

    Todays grand total of 2 claps of distant thunder , 1 flash of lightning . I think that just about sums up this year so far .

    lightning and distant thunder now . Just watching a vintage 1930s large biplane fly over heading towards the storm , wings tipping from side to side .... good luck to them , not the best thing to experience in a modern plane let alone an old biplane !!

    The rain has stopped here but now we've got low level cloud moving (SW) in the complete opposite direction to the high level cloud (NE) ?
