  1. Hi Gail Yes sorry I did get in contact with him the other day, was expecting to meet him at the footy on Sunday but the snow wiped that out good and proper. Had a lengthy phonecall with him and the problem is the Insurance jargon with overseas inhabitants, he did go all technical talking about claims etc and not being able to something or other ? He lost me after 5 minutes tbh. Long and short of it was he could do Uk Residents only on his policies. Have you tried Dogtag at all ? This type of insurance btw is a relative banker for the Insurance companies, no storm chaser has come a cropper since 1972 (41 years) so should be easy to get insurance or so you would have thought! Let me now how you get on. Sorry I could not be more help, My last throw of the dice could be by asking one of my facebook friends who is from Oz and who chases every year, I am sure he will let me know who he uses for Insurance for the Storm Chases. Want me to send him a message ??
  2. Unfortunately the band is shrinking rapidly now. But as St Luke says Evaporative Cooling at its finest here tonight, temp dropped from 2.3c at 730pm to 0.4c at 1030pm All 4 majors for settling snow checked off as well Grass - Check Roads - Check Cars - Check Shrubs - Check Would only expect another hour or so before it peters out, but wow what an upgrade for the early part of the weekend eh ??
  3. Seems to have pepped up and temp dropped off since the wind shifted slightly more to the eastern quadrant, also a little bit more action further offshore, you boys and girls west of here still might get something later, all depends on a, If this Frontal Boundary can keep its intensity b. Wether the flow and direction can keep this up. Have East gusting to ENE At present
  4. If these winds can veer ever so slightly then the North Sea Snow Machine could be powered up tonight. Still lamping it down here, and as malc says the grass where it had melted is going ever so white.
  5. Turning lighter a sleetier now. Ah well was a good sight, and cars will be very slushy in the morning! Knocked the old temp down quite a bit in the end Temp 0.9c Dewp -3.4c Wind East at 5mph
  6. Yh I am in probably the highest part of Leigh at 76m asl, Vesuvius is even higher in Rayleigh by another 25 metres I would say!
  7. Lol I have said we will do another one on the 1st March, hoping something happens in February that will lift our averages upto around the 7 mark!
  8. Settling quite easily on cars though Shrimps! And lovely to see as well, better than that cruddy snizzle! Temp is just too high tonight for much settling I feel!
  9. Temp 1.9c Dewp -3.2c Looking good, can see the rapid intensification over SS9. Looks good for a few hours this!
  10. Wow Big old Fat Flakes Here Peter! Surprised you have the snizzly flakes! Strong old easterly wind as well blowing it horizontally

  12. Yes quite nice sized flakes as well, getting heavier all the time. Love the way these snow events turn up and not 1 single model can handle this. Would love to know CWT's prediction on this one!

  21. Thanks Tom, Interesting then we have 3 people who have given their scores out of 10 and we have a 5/10 a 5.5/10 and a 5.83/10 Remember if you want to have a go at this put your scores out of 10 and divide by 3 Synoptics Snowfall Frosts Mine were 9,4 and 2 giving me 15 out of 30 which is 5/10
  22. How very dare you even mention the TS Word Mr Kerry!! There has only been 1 since the dawn of time anyway (2009!!!) Anyways since we have a bit of a lull on this boring cloudy dreary wednesday thought it might be a good idea to see what everyone rates this winter so far, obviously some in parts of Surrey and along the south coast will probably score it highly, but others not so high, I go on a decent winter by quite a few factors so will list them out and give it a score out of 10 for SE Essex, others may have different thresholds (Say people under 30 yrs old) Anyway here goes and would be interested if any of you could copy the different factors and insert your score. Synoptics = 9/10 Has been great seeing these 1980's style charts with undercuts Snow = 4/10 It really has not got over the heavy snizzle stage and only sunday has delivered here in SE Essex Frosts = 2/10 Absolutely appalling with I think 3 frosts since the start of December. So there you have it for me 15/30 which equates to a 5 out of 10 Which I think is a very fare reaction for this part of the SE Corner. Still a long way to go in winter 12/13 so hoping this score can be bumped up quite a bit!
  23. What the hell is a Snowbomb, never ever heard of that b4 Goes off and googles.........
