Nah go back to late seventies Max temp -6C and a strong north easterly breeze the next day was milder -5C. Going to have too see if I can find the old photos basically one side of the house was frozen we had secondary double glazing and the snow was blowing through the gaps in the first window and you had a grains of snow between the glass. The pipes outside also briefly froze.
The spring of 68 my father had to carry me over the snow drifts as they were too deep for me. Schools stayed open those days. None of this namby pamby stuff of 1 mm of snow and the schools closed.
Just used the last snow shower as an excuse too walk to the post box. Didn't take much change in elevation to increase the depth to about an inch. Walking back I noticed the snow on the pavement was beginning to thaw again despite temps at -2.7C. Wouldn't like to know whats in that snow. Need the winds to swing a little more north easterly otherwise we'll end up in the dry slot which I can see to the south east of us.
Well wait for it wait for it I have about 0.5cm of snow in the garden.
The kitten from the east has really produced. Local forecast has it staying cold but not as cold from Friday and only light snow around.
Doubt very much todays snow will survive all day tomorrow unless we get a top up overnight. At present the radar doesn't really bode well but looks good further north.
A day of mostly light snow showers getting heavier towards of the end of the approx 0.5cm of cover. No sign of the 10cm to 20cm thrown about this morning.
Max temp 0.8C now -2.9C, Barometer 1028mb falling, Wind F2 NNE, Rainfall 0.8mm
Mega snow here replacing the dusting which thawed earlier. Tempertaures below zero so this snow has a lot of pollution in it. Just scraped 0.5mm possibly.
Evewryone at work disgusted at the news and met office. I think the probelm today there's a lot people who haven't lived through the cold winters of late seventies and eighties. This snow doesn't cut it I've seen worst frosts and there's more snow in my freezer.
At least my forecast was correct
Shaking with fear I approached my car attacked by massive snowflakes and severe blizzards I braced myself to wipe the roof clear of snow. Luckily the 1mm of snow wasn't frozen and came away easily. The wipers were amazingly strong enough to clear the windscreen. Not having a snowmobile I knew I was going to struggle to work. I pulled out of the drive holding my breath wait thats another normal car going past perhaps I'll be okay. However the slopes of the pot holes could be an issue but with geat skill I navigated round them. I realised even the normal morning dopes were actually driving faster than normal. I relaxed snowmeggon hadn't happened and most dangerous thing on the road bar other drivers was the grit and of course the deep pot holes.Meanwhile I work I try and capture a snowflake to pickle and preserve it it such a rare beast these days.
yup from last nights system. Should get some light snow showers today. It's now a case of nowcasting and seeing if a shower brews up that can do much than just providing a dusting.
So far this winter we've had more snow when it warmed up then when it was cold. If it sticks to the same pattern we should see more snow over the weekend. Anyway GFS has backed away from the milder outlook although it will get less cold.
One day left for winter to provide a full covering of snow.
