  1. Local forecast only showing proper snow for Friday light snow Monday to Wednesday. Briefly showed more organized Snow Tuesday lunchtime but now removed it. As ever wait and see. Today is showing how powerful the sun is. Nice and warm in the sun cold in the shade and breeze. This should lead to nice convection over the north sea. Hopefully won't see any weird behavior of the snow like melting when it's below zero. The only reason I can think of why that happened is that the snow was heavily polluted lowering the melting point. Any snow that falls should be dry and easy to shift Fridays may have a higher water content so will harder to shift.
  2. Well if you go back ten years only Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 were colder after than back to 1980 to 1989 for it to be beaten. Show show poor winters have been for a while.
  3. ECM flip flopped as well and then suddenly dropped a cold spell at relatively short time period. GFS followed suite with ukmo last onboard. However all models were too progressive with the cold with ecm flipping briefly to a less cold draw from the south east before flipping back. So they all struggled in dealing with ssw.
  4. Today is 6c which maybe met as it rising very rapidly. 1c in half n hour.
  5. Sunny and dry with a gentle east south easterly breeze. Less cold than yesterday. Temp 3.1C, low -3.4C, Barometer 1028mb rising, Wind F3 ESE, Rainfall Nil
  6. less cold due overnight cloud keeping temperatures up. Now clearing and temps falling a little. Temp -1.2 low -1.2C, Barometer 1027mb rising, Wind F1 ENE, Rainfall nil
  7. Wish this cloud will go then the temps would plummet again. At the moment at 0.7C and dew point -3.7C
  8. ECM doesn't follow GFS lead so much and keeps the mild rubbish well south. Long time since we had a proper cold spell.
  9. Yes think of the rain shadow effect in reverse.
  10. One of those warnings that conflicts with the actual forecast will have to judge it day by day. Just looking at ecm too see if it's following GFS idea of bringing a swift end to the extreme cold.
  11. Local forecast doesn't show anything significant for us up to Thursday. IF the GFS is right we should see more major snow and less cold conditions pushing north west on Friday. Way out in lala land that and it keeps changing it's mind. So may stay very cold mostly cloudy with a few light snow showers for us but heavier the further east you go.
  12. That's when it comes as a nonsense and it will happen when you have two sources of information. Too be honest with the Met office forecast I've seen warnings for heavy rain locally yet the same local forecast below says sunshine all day. Happening last few days on the met office forecast for us. A warning for Tuesday yet local forecast shows just light snow.
  13. Don't take any notice of car temperatures as they are widely inaccurate. Never seen an accurate one yet. They are a rough guide and rough at that. Mine tends to read two degrees to high. So today it said was -1C when was -3C. In summer it can be even further out despite a two mile drive. Back on subject I'm beginning to think of Beeb forecast as a junk forecast nowadays.
  14. Sunny Sheffield down to 3C -1.3C below average. Rainfall unchanged. Some very cold days coming up so a good chance of ending -2C below normal. This should bring winter to just below normal for us.
  15. Sunny at first then cloudy and again colder. Max temp 2.8C now 1.7C low -3C, Barometer 1025mb falling, Wind F2 ESE, Rainfall Nil
  16. More than you would think. Last time for us March 2013. From 1955 it's happened six times here. March 2013 was colder than all the three winter months.
  17. Dry and cold air frost Temp -2.7C, low -2.8C, Barometer 1027mb falling, Wind calm, Rainfall nil.
  18. Yes today 6C for us actual 3.1C met was 4C. Saying that the met office on beeb have been bad for minimum temps as soon as they started the heat island effect in cities.
  19. Might remind me of the cold weather we used to get once more just like Dec 2010 did. It gets mild in the ECM at T240 just -8 uppers GFS is a nice snow fest as low pressures push in. UKMo nice as well.
  20. Sunny Sheffield at 3.2C, -1.1C below normal and this is the highest it will be for a while me thinks. Rainfall 33.1mm 55.1% Today was much colder than forecast and heading for an air frost by the looks of things.
  21. A dry cold day much colder than forecast despite the long sunny spells Max temp 3.1C now 0.1C low 0.1C, Barometer 1028mb steady, Wind Calm, rainfall 0.2mm
  22. Local forecast only shows flurries here but bloomin cold. GFS run seems to be the odd one out throwing out a silly low pressure which fills reforms fills and reforms no charts have this feature. Although should bring some welcome snow. GFS otherwise looks fairly dry and I don't buy there low pressure system.
  23. Cool after a mild start to the day with temperatures not rising much. Mostly cloudy but dry Max temp 6.1C now 5.1C low 4.5C, Barometer 1030mb steady, Wind F2 NNE, Rainfall nil
  24. Sunny Sheffield at 3.1C -1.2C below normal, Rainfall 32.9mm 54.7% of average
