  1. So can raintoday be trusted tonight ? Coz at the moment I should have snow

Nope not really... its a predictive software they use, they track existing systems and predict its route, but the way everything is moving about in the atmosphere they will always be slightly off for the fridge stuff today, as Kent is kind of on the edge of the system, its hard to really trust that. Use Satellite images and then take readings and reports using a multitude of resources and then you will be able to plot whats going on. Its a real mess of miss-information but that makes it hilariously fun too!

  2. Thanks for replying

I want more but if I wanted I still have a foot deep snow in back garden for a snow angel !

There is a 15ft snowman in next village too

We have barely had a thaw away from roads and sun facing banks

I am sure you will get something down your way at some stage tonight. The way its panning out though could be late at night, but it would be nice to wake up at 5am and see something moderate!

  3. please steve

OK my take on what has happened is as follows and this is from looking at the satellite only.

    1. The pivoting westwards has happened, but it happened much to the west of the UK over Ireland and North Ireland over the last 4 hours it comes up beautifully on the satellite.

    2. What we have and why I kept telling Steve M to look at the radar is a conveyor (a fast one at that) out of Norway crossing diagonally across the North Sea with much of Southern UK in its sight. What it must have pushed in front of it was very dry air hence why no reports of precipitation reaching the ground on that eastern quadrant of the radar band.

Now that it is taking effect snow is being reported in the east but that is from a different system to what was supposed to pivot as that system has already pivoted way way to the west as stated above.

Lastly there is a huge stream of this Norwegian stuff to follow. and this could explain why in Leeds for example they are so surprised that what was a few hours ago very wet has been replaced by rapidly settling DRY SNOW.

This could be a ramp, and I could be talking absolute bollo cks but Steve please look now at the Satellite or anybody else so inclined and give me your thoughts on what I am saying please.

You are right in what you say, the question really is whats going to happen in the next 6 to 10 hours as to me it seems a lot of changes are occurring and with temps dropping too I think a lot of people will get caught out tonight, because the TV forecasts dont really pan what we are seeing develop, well not 100% anyway, there is a lot of things happening all at once tonight! Its rather active!

  4. Confused.com

Radar say 3mmsnow for me in easy Kent but we not due any

Can anyone spare an explanatory sentence for me to save me reading 20 pages ?! I've read some but I don't think it relates to east Kent ??!!

It looks possible that Kent will get some snow and east Kent could get a large shower later this evening, ignore the TV forecasts they are out of date for this system, its changing too fast, if you get it make a snow angel and smile, if not just huff and puff!

  5. OK if you look at the radar, you can ignore the blue's they are not delivery anything, but look for green and yellows and that is where the action is, as you would expect, so at this exact moment just ignore the blues or if you are looking the light pinks are irrelevant today, just focus on darker colours, standard really but it seems to be how its working out.

I.e. where the heavy echo is, that is the snow - for those having radar issues this evening.

  6. Hi Kaddy said a strong northerly next week,is this showing in the models? seems a bold statement this far away.

Yes north to north westerly winds will kick in mid week and strong, low system gets squeezed between highs and moves into Germany, cuts off the Siberian airflow but delivers northerlies and with it potential snow too...

  7. I have a sneaky feeling not everything is going as planned at present with charts and radar and forecasts. I feel the front will swing west but far further down the country than predicted and I think from Anglia across south east and then along the southern region will get hit rather than it turning west north of London. I think its a case of watch this space. I also believe the blobs off Kent will find themselves coming inland as snow later this afternoon 4pm onwards and will give a covering. Very interesting day, not one to get excited over but one to enjoy watching evolve - I like days like this.

  8. Yes

The North Sky has that orange glow - Nothing more than a dusting at best though! Temp is absolutely bitter out there with solid ice on the cars and also virtually impossible to open car doors

As they leave you they cross my lake of the Thames and head for us here in Kent and beef up just nicely, already seeing some strengthening, so you get a dusting maybe we get more... :D - well a man can dream!

  9. Sounds good..if its icy it will help towards the ppn being snow, just need all the other factors to fall in place :cold:

Next 48 hours are crucial, I am confident like Paul has said on here that the easterly will block and that we will get a feed from the east, I believe that Kent will stay cold and we will be ok.

Soon be able to walk across to Sheppy lol

Well thats not been done since 1947... so always up for some ice fishing! :D

Right, off for a hot choc drink and bacon sandwich following a good two hours of snow and uploading my images to facebook.

  10. Yep

Moderate Snow and about 1.5cm to 2.0cm of Snow.

Since the wind shift to the South East we have been getting very wet snow, temps and Dewpoints still okay but Southern facing windows are wet like a rainy old windy day look!

Stop complaining Paul, only a few hours ago you were crying over it missing you.... :D:rolleyes::drunk::clap: at least you are now in the white stuff!!! Get your sledge out tomorrow old chap!

  11. Having been born and bred in Whistable it was always a hard choice between Tankerton slopes or the Downs,I had to avoid the slopes one year after me and a mate used our old canoes as sledge's and he went into the back of a beach hut...more damage to his canoe but still a little bit to the hut!!!

Not the same now since they built the beach up.... I remember shooting the hill and straight into the sea at high water if you were foolish enough to stay on that long and run off the wall!... Downs are great, but they have widened it nowadays, which is a shame as it was great when you had the mid section narrow, created fun ice and dangerous sledging.... never mind. I will be at one of them for sure probably! :D :D
