  1. ^ Yep im right on the edge , looks like it could throw it down shortly :drinks:

Yep this one is a good one for sure, its a nice one, its darkening and growing, which is definately due to the tide being in as well... its good, I expect it to start in about 7 to 10 mins... I can see its streams of snow falling now out to sea about 2 or 3 miles away, long lines of the stuff

  2. What a forecast!. By his hand indications of the snow level it was suggesting a big potential?. :)

I should have taped it!. For those who missed it, don't forget there's another forecast for the week on BBC1 tonight after Countryfile which is from 7pm to 8pm. I hope it's by our favourite ramper Rob McElwee!! :)

Yep Rob McElwee is the man to certainly deliver a good one

  3. What a countryfile forecast. Snow action starts on Tuesday for the SE and gets progressively more intense as the week progresses...and that could be just the start. Been waiting for a forecast like that for over 20 years, lets hope it comes to fruition. If that Friday chart does deliver as forecast there would indeed be grid lock...a nice long weekend for some could be beckening. :)

If the Jet stream holds this could be a very intense Winter. Remember the great winters did not start until January and March even.... so it is going to be interesting. I bet Kent county council is panicking thinking of what to do now, as they have not got proper snow equipment for intense falls..... How funny!

  4. Blimey the BBC are bigger rampers than me.

What a blast in the past that forecast was. I will say to the younger members that the forecast was a typical forecast for the 80's when an E,ly was on its way. I would go as far to say that the forecast was probably one of the best i've ever seen!

CLASSIC love it.... real blast from the past, I had to pinch myself as to was I still in 2010 or 1986!

  5. Nope this is actually further east this time , less likely the further west you go

This set up over the next few days is more east than west, it will as before be a gamble as to who is lucky but I woudl bet on central and eastern Kent may be and Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex with all probability. The north sea at present is full of low crowd and here at Whitstable we have had a few small grain snow showers and also a sleet and rain shower.

  6. I thought some of you would like this, I have monitored the BBC forecast at local level and national level for my town for 5 days now and the results below:

Wednesday: BBC National (correct) BBC Local (wrong)

Thursday: BBC National (wrong) BBC Local (wrong)

Friday: BBC National (wrong) BBC Local (wrong)

Saturday: BBC National (partly correct) BBC local (partly correct)

Sunday: BBC National (correct) BBC Local (correct)

So what does that tell you... ummmm. They got the clear sunny days with no action correct, but any activity and they got it wrong. Temperatures for all days were wrong by upto 3 degrees.

Not complaining just find it funny. I did the same survey in July and the results were about the same.

    :yahoo:

  7. Well, it will be marginal according to the weather models - so it's perfectly reasonable to presume that an experienced professional can make a call above and beyond what a computer can do! We shall see in a day or so, I guess!

I agree with this statement, the modern presenters rely too much on computer models rather than sticking a nose outside and feeling the weather. I once spoke to a BBC presenter last year in the south east who had not ventured outside all day and was oblivious that her forecast was wrong because her system did not show it!

Well thats it, exhausted now, need to sleep... got cricket tomorrow at 8.30am to watch in South Africa.

  8. I saw the ever languid Francis on Sky earlier, he seems to think Snow for Monday and arctic weather for the rest of the week!!

Yes and Francis Wilson is a legend for Snow and Artic predictions, so I would aways edge for him over anything the BBC produce. He is the most experienced weatherman on TV nowadays, and still going strong.

  9. Current GFS (18z) has Monday, for Kent and Sussex, as being just on the wrong side of marginal for snow - Theta-W values, are just slighly too warm (3C) for this area. Still, it's only one model run, and who knows ... It could be a case of snow on the hills, rain for everyone else.

It's only just touching the far South and East, so 50 mile model error, and the game could be on ... (850/500 thicknesses all good) ... but, I think, the higher Theta-W temperatures are associated with the precipitation. It could well be a choice of wet and warm, or cold and dry.

Yep still room for movement on that, although I reckon its a 50/50 call. BBC forecasted rain for monday, Sky Snow, I am myself 50% swaying on it, but it will cool down Tuesday.

  10. I have to get to Folkestone at some point today.... relying on Public transport that's now all either delayed or stopped... then tomorrow gotta go to London by HS1 up through to Scarborough E. Yorkhsire for a short break before Christmas... Snow tonight I still want though but I am worried things may not happen or be severely delayed..

You picked a hell of a weekend for all that travelling. If you get get away from Dover safely you will be fine, but the trouble will be bad for you up north as well, a large snow event coming down, so you will experience lots of cold travelling what ever you choose. Just grin and go for it, it is only snow, and if you are prepared for delays you will be ok.

the heaviest ammounts around here are mainly within a mile of the sea, a mate in kingsdown said they 2-3"

Appreciate that, its just clipping you, but its a long stream, its set to continue for hours at the present track and just keeps feeding itself, so those that are getting it will be experiencing a nice fat dump of snow, and good on them! :)

  11. Strange...I thought I lived in East Kent. Seems the snow has other ideas :)

Yep the snow is Thanet bound, it would seem that the stretch of land between Faversham to Birchington down to Canterbury that traditionally does get a lot of snow, has missed out with kentish streams going further west and now further east. Comical really, the only hope now is for the snow from the north to come steaming down in the next 36 hours (if there will be any left!). You never know it may well change however and the stream could change direction but I can't see it myself.

Absolutely a DEAL!!!!!! I am considering waking the kids up . . . even though they REALLY need the sleep!! Still snowing moderately here - 8cm lying snow and the radar looks great for a good few more hours.

Like my town friend above, Deal often misses out so if it's a Deal steamer . . . about time!!

    GO FOR IT!

  12. Supposed to be going to Woodchurch (Asford) to see santa (will be taking the kids). It was called off yesterday. Has it snowed more there?

There was snow there yesterday, from about 2 to 5pm but they have not really seen anything since. So I would say you are fine. The forecast for today looks ok for you. I am heading that way to go sledging with the kids and walking in the woods etc... near Ashford.

The place that will see a lot of snow and is seeing a lot of snow is the Isle of thanet that has a Kent Streamer and that is set to be with them all day, in fact they are getting pounded!
