  2. Thanks for the reply mate, as I said, have been trying to study the weather on and off for a couple of years - bloody complicated though isn't it? Just when you think you've learned the terminology you have to learn more about the models...

    And then the model's models

And the the model's model's models!!

Fair play to all the good forecasters here - hope I can do the same in a few (many) years.

We all get it wrong, best is to work on different plans and see what is your strength etc... and one word of advice do NOT focus on models too much, because the best computer you have is your brain... I will say this, models are 50/50 and should be used as a guide, of course some models can make you go blind you know :D but that's a whole different subject!

  3. Hi PO have you noticed the wind picking up? is the cold air being pulled into the oncoming front?

Well the wind has been getting up, I was expecting it to be windy but had not thought it would be as strong, its not causing any issues and will not effect things as they stand apart from blow it about a bit that will cause some issues as it gets deeper. The wind is direct southerly at this time, I would say you have the same in herne bay as you are only 5 miles away. Has this wind caught you out?

  4. Hi guys,

Long time reader but very infrequent commenter here - purely 'because I come here to read and learn and generally don't have anything to add that the resident experts haven't said.

Loving a bit of snow tonight - would warn anyone in London that it has already halted the Central Line to Epping, no trains are running out here tonight.

Quick question for the folks in the know, have purchased a subscription to the Netweather radar and the V.6 version is very impressive!! Look like the precipitation is dying out though - I know it got here earlier than planned but will it die out in a couple of hours?? Thought it was due to hover over us until the early hours - or was that only East Kent and the east Norfolk coast?

NB. While I do my one post per year, big thanks to Steve Murr, have been reading this forum for a good few years and you have proved your worth yet again. Also TEITS, GP, C and the rest of you - you know who you are, you make this place interesting and I thank you for your input.

    Cheers.

The front is due to stall, it is already slowing down on its front edge somewhat, so as it stalls it should intensify somewhat and places like Anglia, Kent, Essex should get a good whack from it. Great that you are learning, the best thing I would say is step back like you have been and just look at the sensible comments and learn gradually, the weather is fun but we are all learning and no system is ever the same, so a lot comes down to gut feelings also running alongside technical knowledge. Hope that waffle helps...

  5. Any proper experts know why the premium radar for the south east on net weather is a bit cranky? its almost like a piece has been cut from it and not put back quite corectly. If that makes sense! pm me if you like and know as its difficult to keep up with all of these posts!

If you are referring to the radar lines... as it tracks round it records the data, if it does not get a clear view then you will get gaps etc... its standard. Is that what you were on about?

  6. Man fishing on the beach in front of my house.... went down spoke to him, told him that he might want to consider packing up shortly lots of snow on the way... ummm he said dont believe all that rubbish, load of hype... I said is that so, ok well have a nice evening.... oh is that your car down the steep ramp to the beach? Yes he said.... oh I only ask because its my sledge run, might be an idea to move it up.... no he said no need it wont snow... oh I said, ok then bye!

Well looks like I will have some fun later watching him!!! :D :D

  7. If the light blue/dark blue stuff isn't reaching the ground then I can't see there being much at all..

Its just the first band that's past strood, its purely light stuff.... Trust me on this you will get plenty later this evening in Medway. Its like waiting for a hurricane you have to be patient my man... you get bands at the front of systems.

Tonight a lot of people are moaning or getting worried or anxious... dont be its going to hit Kent well, it is going exactly the way it should do and will be a significant snow fall for all at ALL levels.

  8. Steve

This is why I was so vocal about the Block Holding firm all last week, what the Models are showing is could make this lot tonight pale into Insignificance if we get another Feb 1991 and almost to that day as well!

I firmly believe the 2nd and possibly 3rd bites of the cherry are going to be the Headline Makers! This is just the starters!

Agreed 100% on this, I think this is just the prelude...

  9. Going out into Sevenoaks town tonight for my mates birthday dinner (table booked for 6.30). We're obviously well aware of the snow potential but I've told everyone we should be safe until about 8.30-9 on the basis of this mornings forecasts. Is this still the case? I could have a lot of egg on my face if we get snowed in by 8...

Was also going to say the temperatures in north-east Kent today has been remarkable. A high of -3C?? About as cold as it can get on the coastline without snowcover...

You will be fine until about 9ish... I would say, the start of the snow will be light then gain in intensive as the evening goes on, its possible snow will only arrive between 9 to 11pm in Kent.
