  1. http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-17.54,53.50,3000/loc=-17.629,53.011 Not always accurate with the speeds (km/h) but i quite like it. I normally use this site for looking at hurricanes where graphic imagery/live location updates are sparse. Forecast models seem to suggest the area of strongest winds heading more south easterly or easterly from its current location. I do look at storms heading our way sometime, and I have to say this seems to be more more organised than they normally appear both on the above and satellite imagery. Will be interesting to see how the wind speeds correlate; or whether it just looks good haha. I have taken a precaution in moving my bins away from the side path though, last thing i want is to pick up rubbish all over my front garden like the last storm with an amber wind warning for my area did! (Having a southwest facing house means the alley path between myself and the neighbours house acts as a very effective wind tunnel! It is also where i keep those hideous wheelie bins; ergo the problem i had last time!!)
  2. Storm abigail 80+ winds only affected a very small area of north&west scotland aswell though? And Barney is affecting inland areas too that are less prone to such winds surely that counts for something? Its not always only about the 3 top gusts! Some widerspread higher sustained wind values even in some inland locations with the barney....
  3. Haha I was going to reply to AdamStorms silly comment but 3 people beat me to it! Just heard a very loud series of gusts here really made some serious noise outside my bedroom (and its in a very sheltered side of the house) I'm guessing thats probably the strongest of the night for this part of wiltshire now
  4. Yeah I just noticed that! (78mph earlier inland West Ireland too)
  5. Ahh well I watched the latest video forcast just before the hour on the bbc news 24 suggested it would be strongest over the next hour across wales and the next few hours crossing west to central england (later for the east); just bringing it forward abit from that 9 to midnight original forecast for manchester I expect. Had the first array of 50mph+ gusts past half an hour near Salisbury, Wiltshire (set my anemometer up after that gust earlier!), with a lot less lulls too definately picking up another notch here now.
  6. Just saw this thread while i was checking the forecast for Salisbury, thought i'd sign up to comment on these... Definately has got a lot windier already near salisbury in Wiltshire than I would have expected! But in particular that squall line earlier! had some pretty notable gusts associated with it, in fact I'm commenting because that one gust just before the downpour already claimed a fence panel (it was a bit loose in one corner) but still took it clean out leaning onto the neighbours car (lucky its not my fence!). I don't know what the local wind speed was but i certainly heard that gust coming!
