I hate to say this... but I'm getting the same vibes as 1987 with this one. Having lived through that night and run up, the set up is broadly the same, Sting jet, rapid cyclogenisis, same SW- NE alinement.
Given the number of trees in Devon still in full leaf, I'm pretty fearful. The SE gales will also impact transport with A379 going to be in trouble at Torcross and railway line at Dawlish.
Said exactly that yesterday

Anyone reckon we'll see Thursday's storm named today? I'm expecting a broad sweep yellow warning to drop down later this morning. It looks like we are going to see a direct hit from a powerful Atlantic storm, with the models showing central pressure ranging from about 948 to 955mb, approximately.
Yep. Currently modelling shades of 1987

Strange looking at the lightning strike history around that area yesterday, that theres no recorded lightning strikes showing on lightningmaps.org....or does that site miss stuff occasionally??
I thought that too as I live about 15 miles away, and we saw nothing. There are plenty of eye witness accounts though

Surprised you didn't here the bang from there.
Nothing. I was outside at the time, but it is north of me.
I do remember when the local plant went up in 2016. That was pretty dramatic!

Grey and dull here with occasional downpour thrown in. Heard distant thunder, but everything is too far East of me. And yes, no structures to see, sadly!

Few closer rumbles now. Looks like cells developing rapidly now

I'm sure there are some in the affected areas who wished this was a "non-event". Warnings are just that. They warn of possible risks. Not every warning becomes an actuality.
Exactly. I'm sure those who've had their rooves ripped off in the RoI will be overjoyed this was a "non event"

Highest rainfall London and South East Benson with 45.2 mm according to metO. That would explain the floods, which have disappeared after a cool night

Been under that conveyor belt for over 4 hours now. Our road is already flooded and will be impassable in a few hours if there's no respite! No idea of rain totals, but must be pretty high

In the eye here. Eerily calm and pressure has been 955mb for a while now. Plenty of rain for us- imby the winds are due to peak here early evening as Ciaran clears away.
Keep safe everyone
