Just shy of 30c here today. Now clouded over after some signs of instability. Very humid- going to be a sticky night

There’s an interesting frontal boundary this morning which is pretty much over Warminster.
Quite thick cloud to the Northern quadrant, clear blue sky to the Southern quadrant and a mix of all sorts of Altocumulus/Cirrocumulus/Cirrus through the middle as far as I can see East and West.
Same here. A lot of AcCas overhead too

It’s a sting jet.
Isn't it the centre of the low? The rest hasn't been picked up by our radar yet?

I'm driving from London to Saltdean at 20.00.
Old skool storm detection the name of the game.
M.W or L.W on the radio to detect lightning.
As I head down the M23/A23 eyes focused on cloud types and any distant flashing.
A cursory look at road conditions of course.!!
Modern technology can wait till I get home.
The old ways are always the best when it comes to the chase!

The negativity on this forum is unreal! Is there not another thread for weather moans?
The clue is in the word forecast. Meteorology isn't an exact science. Forecasters can only make the best of the data in front of them plus their knowledge of what similar set ups have led to.
I live in an area that's a healthy mix of the rural and cimmuter land. Knowing heavy rain is incoming is vital for farmers particularly during the harvest. They rely on forecasts to plan their week, etc. The vast majority of the time the met( and many amateurs too) do get it right. IMBY there's a lot of surface water on the roads, so I'll be leaving earlier than usual to account for poor driving. That decision was also made based on a warning for heavy rain.
There are no guarantees for thunderstorms. If there was, somebody would be making a fortune.
Now I'm off to get my wellies and raincoat which I left by the back door.
Have a good day and cheer up lads!

The direction is fantastic, given more favourable conditions would be a great chance for one of our best opportunities for a proper homegrown storm. Storms moving SEly from Gloucester have given this area some wonderful events in the past.
Unfortunately I don’t think time is on our side today, so looking like a bust for the CS
Yes, I have my eye on those. A very pleasant evening right now,tho

Oh. Why? Whose taking over?
There are a few forecasters on twitter still doing convective forecasts. I will miss @staplehurst knowledge here, though

The stuff erupting near IOW is now electrified and I have this pile of beauties to my west currently (you can just make out the A380 turning towards Heathrow in front of it).
I have a HIIT class between 09:00 and 10:00 and really struggling whether to go, or wait out to see if there are any storms…what to do!!?!?!?!?!?My hiit class is outdoors so I'm there with.eyes to the skies!

Thst Reading cell isn't electric, but it's beautiful. Funnily, I laughed when I saw metO forecast for rain at 9pm- but looks like they're spot on

@frostyhollows Thanks for the tip
Cirre trying just outside Ipsden and the skies are dramatic. Can't load imglages yet but have just seen my first lightning strike. Yay!!
Ooh you're not far from me. Darkening skies and thunder here. Bear in mind the A34 is shut this afternoon if you're heading for the ridgeway, which could be a good spot. Good luck!

Can hear thunder. Surely not from that massive cell to my east?
