Bang on 5C was the low here, temp was up and down on my graph with passing cloud cover. Chilly wind today but the sun still has just about enough ooomph to feel ok if you are in it and sheltered from the gusty breeze. It'll have to ease off tonight if there's going to be a frost or close to one. Some interesting charts later in the month. Of course way too early for snow but the chilly charts relative to the time of year keep being churned out. If only this was 2 months down the line. No doubt we'll have a raging PV by then!

And when you think about it even though December 2010 was likely the coldest for 100 years or something like that places like Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, the Baltic's get those sorts of temps that we had every single winter. It shows just how pathetic and mild our winters are in general when we have to wait decades to have a similar experience.

Certainly a chilly feel to things coming up, well you can feel it now with this clear fresh air that's arrived. Next to no pollution sourced from a northerly. Probably no rain in the forecast for a week by the looks of things. Still the chance of a frost in prone spots over the next couple of mornings but this depends on cloud cover. But it's very useable to do outdoors stuff tidying up ready for the Winter without breaking into a sweat or going for walks.... not muddy!

The changing daylight hours thread
Frost HoIIow replied to Boydie's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Losing a lot of daylight now. Still not quite in the dark half of the year, I'd say that is when we start to have less than 12 hours of equal daylight but we're steadily approaching it which begins on the 26th of this month here. And stays that way until 19th March when we start to have more than 12 hours. -
Yes Saturday morning in particular looking a bit chilly. Some of us in more frost prone spots could very well have an air frost or at the least close to it. The only fly in the ointment I see is cloud cover, wind looking calm or very light. I do wonder if the sluggish Atlantic could usher us into a more sustained colder than normal period. That's it I've jinxed it now. Somethings got to give though because we was so unlucky last year with that area of HP parked to our south most of Winter. It could have been a cold winter otherwise.

Autumn 2022 - Moans, Ramps & Chat
Frost HoIIow replied to Seasonal Trim's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Dipped to 5C here this morning. Felt nice and Autumnal first thing. Temp quickly rose up though but 17C is fine in the sun no silly warmth lingering. -
5.7C was the low here this morning. Certainly that Autumnal feel now in the air, at least first thing in the day. Looking at the synoptics I wouldn't be surprised to see temps close to zero here this week if not just scraping an air frost. Not unheard of in September but certainly not an every year thing. Recorded two in 2005 with these synoptics. Manchester airport got down to 1C so not quite an air frost down there. This year...

Winter 2022-23 early thoughts - general chat
Frost HoIIow replied to Blessed Weather's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Haha yes why do we do it to ourselves? Get to now with these longer nights and I start to really look forward to the chase even if it's futile! -
Temps going a bit below average this week as colder air filters down from the north, with the longer nights now there's a good likelihood of grass frost for inland valleys in our region should skies remain clear overnight as morning temps get into the low single digits. Certainly below zero for the Scottish glens with air frost.

Only thing that stood out for me in 83 was that blisteringly hot July. Only July 1995 and 2006 comes close to that especially the latter.

Just want to say RIP to Her Majesty The Queen. 70 years of public service but it was clear she wasn't the same person after her husband died. Her health steadily went downhill. I was born when her father King George VI was still alive but I was only two when he died so like most people in this country all I've known & remembered was Queen Elizabeth II. Certainly an end of an era today.
