Yes thankfully we're not staring down the barrel of ridiculous heat again, it can stay where it belongs in Spain, but we still have August yet so ample time for another torture sweatfest. Once we get past mid August though plumes do tend to have a bit less ooomph about them as solar polar is steadily on the wane amongst other warming variables. So still a good 3 weeks of high summer left.

Very dry here. We own a few large fields round the house and when you walk on them you get a bit of a dust cloud around your feet and lots of cracks are visible now. Last seen in the 2018 summer. Our horses are having trouble finding decent grass, they are resilient animals though and still eat the straw like stuff as horses came and were bred from the Eurasian Steppes originally which is an even drier place. Had a drive to my brother's in Saddleworth earlier and noticed Dovestone reservoir that supplies Tameside & Saddleworth is notably low. Say about only half full if that maybe 40%. Another dry couple of months and were in trouble as I'd imagine the other ones to the north of Denshaw that supply most of the rest of Oldham are of a similar level.

Yeah it seems the Welsh mountains brick wall are doing a good job at scuppering our chances of a thundery breakdown. Not surprising as we're slowly developing sand dunes here in the desert NW. Much prefer storms that come up directly from the south.... Had some crackers over the years but even those are getting rarer.

What a day once again. Maxed at 36.7C here and 38C so far at Manchester airport, first 100F. Absolutely extraordinary and I never thought this would happen. 35C maybe but not close to 40C. Unfortunately climate change is here and those who still deny it are just daft in my opinion. We are now in another dimension in terms of how hot it can get because of this. Could really do with rain now it's absolutely tinder dry out there and with this wind sparks could fly with careless idiots.

Temperature Record Monitor Thread
Frost HoIIow replied to Radiating Dendrite's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Local record has gone here in the NW. Manchester airport has recorded 34C making it the hottest day ever for the city. Previous record was 33.7C in August 1990. Another couple of hours of warming possible so could get higher. -
Quite a bit of cloud around but the sun does come out from time to time. Just wonder if the Irish sea being cold and very warm upper air moving over it is generating the cloud? I don't mind as it's probably keeping a lid on temps a bit. Now I've said that it'll be blazing sun within 10 mins right through until sunset

Monday by day looking like the local record will be broken at the very least, maybe even the national one but also the following night looking record breakingly warm too. Going to have to trawl through my records back to the late 70s but I'm sure it's never been 27C at midnight before, but that is the prediction by most models. And the "low" 5 hours later could be 23C. Again I don't think it's been that warm to start the day before. 21C I think was my all time "low" warm temperature.

Here you go that's as hot as the uppers get back then and on the face of it they are nothing compared to what is coming. Just shows the potential early next week for some really horrid conditions. Crazy how that record has stubbornly stood despite the summers of 1995, 2003, 2006, 2013, 2018 and recent plumes. I think it'll finally get beaten next week.

Last time I experienced that kind of temperature was when I was living in California but there was low humidity given it was in the desert. Didn't stop it feeling like you've opened an oven door when you stepped outside. Dreadful stuff. Partly the reason I decided to move to New York in the Autumn as I knew there would be a snow fix and not relentless desert warmth even late in the year. Happened to be a great winter, colder than usual with tons of snow. The great thing about the big Apple was even with 2ft of snow most places didn't shut down apart from the metro and airport. The local shops was open if you decided to brave the elements and trudge there through mounds of snow.

Yes over this side Pennine reservoirs are about 50% capacity according to our water company united utilities. We're going to be in real trouble if it's not a wet August and Autumn especially with people using more water in the heat. Dreading this upcoming heat mate, feels like before going under anaesthetic for surgery. Unfortunately no chance of this downgrading now to something more civilized.

Most offices in the city centre use A/C and that's probably numbering into the hundreds, plus we have others scattered in the neighbouring suburbs and unless they tell their workers to stay off it'll all be on full pelt no doubt about that. Then you have all the shops and supermarkets as well all over and most of those are fitted with it these days. In terms of heat it's certainly a big deal here. We are now looking highly likely to smash local records by not just a degree but probably by 3 or 4, that is astonishing really. Things could still change slightly but we're getting to the point now where it's in the reliable. I think we are looking at slight increase in excess deaths from the heat with the elderly especially. Temps will be into the low 30s even inside most homes if they don't have A/C. That is virtually impossible to cool down from and if you have bad health issues to begin with that's not good.
