  1. Yes and Saturday (at the moment!) looking decent with a UV of 7 maybe a bit breezy but in shelter it will feel good. The sun more than strong enough to generate vitamin D . Tomorrow probably not so good but can't see it being dull all day. We'll see.
  2. A bit of a way out but the chance of some early cold and significant snow for New Zealand South Island further into June. Of course being in the southern hemisphere the further south you are the closer to Antarctic air masses. Favoured places like Queenstown could get a dumping. Even coastal Invercargill should see at least falling snow with this airmass.
  3. Going by the Netweather forecast it's looking like a fairly typical summer here in NW England - getting worse as it progresses!
  4. Just a few spots of rain today but not enough to wet the ground. Tomorrow looking bright and pleasantly warm
  5. And just like that sunshine in the evening. Oh well summer begins tomorrow the only difference is the rain gets a bit warmer.
  6. As other Oldham members above say what a vile day it's been. No higher than 10C here which is probably about 7 or 8C below normal for late May. A very gradual warm up from tomorrow. Probably been the worst day of the week today.
  7. Hi folks as a neutral and not a fan of either I'm looking forward to tonight but still want Liverpool to win, should be a good game. Someone needs to catch up a bit to Madrid! haha If Liverpool win they will climb up to 3rd in the all time list of winners/runners up. Real Madrid have 13 titles and was runners up 3 times, AC Milan have won it 7 times runners up 4 times. Bayern Munich won it 6 times runners up 5 times. So tonight should Liverpool win they would hop above Bayern Munich into 3rd with 7 titles. In the top 3 is a very good spot to be. Liverpool won't go above AC Milan into 2nd because they haven't attended as many finals as AC Milan which does count.
  8. Yes personally I'm not a heat fan but I do like say low 20s and some sunshine. I truly believe sensible sun exposure of say 30 mins to an hour at this time of year without getting badly burnt is really good for your mind and body. Constant dullness and chilly weather isn't and I know I ache more when it's like this. Without the sun we wouldn't be here.
  9. Tonight could be quite chilly for us in more frost prone spots. No air frost but I reckon low single figures should skies remain clear. On to the models another poor GFS almost throughout the run if you want some decent warmth which would take us close to mid June without any really. UKMO offering a bit of an improvement with HP nosing in from the west but not worth betting on it given it's about 6 days away. I do remember in 1995 wondering if we'd get any warmth after a cool May and especially first half of June, the last few days this year remind me how similar it was in 1995 with cool and blustery weather up to mid June and then we had that huge change from then on leading to a scorcher through the rest of the summer. Not saying it'll happen but there's time. We're not even in Summer officially yet.
  10. Had about an inch here on the ground on New year's Eve 2001. But IIRC it fell the day or two before with a band coming down from the north, it lasted about 4 days before it melted with the cold ground after a chilly month, still remember looking at it approaching on the radar on the old met office website before netweather even existed. I liked Dec 2001 though it was dry had freezing fog, very frosty and had that snow at the end. A seasonal month. The following January and February were snowless though. Very poor end to the winter and wet. Don't think we had snow still lying on NYE 2000 think it melted just a day before after the best snow for 4 years. It even shut the airport.
  11. Yes typical. Actually had to put the light on mid afternoon when that heavy drizzle arrived, had to look at the calendar to remind myself it's late May not late October. Miraculously we'll start to get a long dry sunny spell from September onwards when it's too late to enjoy it and all the nonsense about an imminent "drought".
  12. As others have said a cool feeling day for late May. Plenty of people out and about in warm coats when I ventured into Oldham town centre. And looking at the models there's nothing all that seasonal on the way, of course subject to change but as of now not good. I don't want it hot but low 20's and plenty of sunshine would be nice & not this dross we have right now where you need some layers.
  13. Early May 1997 we had a light covering of snow here, woke up to it actually, think it was around the 5th. Drove to Gorton and I remember standing on Gorton market (when they had an outdoor market which is no longer there) where it was still snowing, properly coming down but no accumulation down there. Other than that I don't think we've had snow cover in May since then. It was rare back then but clearly even rarer now as we've gone 25 years without any May snow cover.
  14. Yes seems quite normal so far. As usual the ash trees round here come into leaf a few weeks later than other types of tree (only fully came into leaf last week) but it's always earlier to shed too in Autumn.
  15. Yeah what a strange summer it was last year for folk in southern England. Up here it wasn't too bad overall, not the best ever but sort of in between what Scotland and the south of England had with Scotland having their best summer since 1976 if I'm not mistaken. So here in NW England we did basically "ok" with middle ground territory.
  16. Afternoon folks. First of all well done to City fully deserved, what a team you have and would be a shame if rumours were true about Gundogan possibly leaving because he's a top player, although Pep has clarified these rumours to be false and imagine what it'll be like when Haaland plays too. Klopp will probably be a bit worried. The gap might not be just 1 point! I think you'll win the CL eventually but surprising it's not happened yet. I think City can switch off a little at times though which you can't do in the latter stages of the tournament and teams like Real can pounce on that. Hate their horrible fickle fans though and their anti English sentiments so hope Liverpool win it. On to the weather and a bit disappointing today, a bit of rain earlier and cool. Probably a bit more sun tomorrow mixed with showers but a breeze picking up so probably feeling even cooler.
  17. As usual the SE corner nicking the warm sunny weather. Shame we've not had more sun today as it would've got into the low 20s. Bang on 19C here currently and that's under this stubborn cloud. Next few days looking cool, especially Tuesday to Thursday with a fresh breeze blowing it won't feel like almost June. Probably around 14C at best.
  18. Often accents are tied to a geographical area. Not sure what people from Suffolk sound like, if they sound more like someone from Norfolk then definitely it's more a Eastern/East Anglian county rather than SE but if they sound more like people from Essex then definitely SE. Not to do with above but Lincolnshire is a funny county as I know people in the north of it definitely sound like northern folk but in the south of the county there's a bit of an East Anglia influence. It's quite a long county by area so that's why. Probably not on topic so I'll leave it there.
  19. Kasim did an interesting piece on the reasons why the Pennines act like they do as different wind directions give different results, SE wind the most rubbish. He's a smart lad. He won't be back on here until winter though - he's in Kasim's cavern sorry Poole's cavern in Buxton hibernating until then in all seriousness I enjoy his posts he's one of the most knowledgeable on here.
  20. Your welcome we certainly get our fair share over here in the sopping wet NW rainforest. Can guarantee the snow shield will be in full operation over your side come winter though blocking the snow getting over.. the Holme moss transmitter the likely suspect all the while you are knee deep in the white stuff. Anyone would think we have a long chain of Mount Everest's to our east given how effective these hills are
  21. Very high. Between 1,500m and 1,700m. Even so where Denver is at 39 degrees north the sun at those southerly latitudes is very strong at this time of year so as you say would likely melt it in no time should it settle.
  22. Not unheard of in late April over there to have huge extremes but probably not so much now I'd have thought a month later. All the more remarkable given it's as far south as mid Spain with a high sun. Makes me wonder if it'll even settle tomorrow given today's hot weather and a UV of 10! Going to find a webcam and take a look tomorrow or a quick search of peoples Twitter pictures should suffice.
  23. Crazy weather in Colorado but not unheard of. Roasting hot today at 30C in Denver and then steady snow starting tomorrow afternoon lasting through most of Saturday and not much above freezing! Denver (United States of America) weather WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Denver 7 day weather forecast including weather warnings, temperature, rain, wind, visibility, humidity and UV
  24. Don't really drink much booze these days as I've had a problem with it in the past consuming too much, if I do it's usually in the winter rather than summer as it tends to warm me up so I can go a good 6 months before I drink the stuff, I can crave it beforehand but it's not every day and it subsides. Summer drinks I enjoy fresh orange and sometimes mango juice. Tomato juice is nice too from time to time. I don't eat dairy or milk products as I am lactose intolerant so can't eat proper ice cream when it's hot unfortunately as I get horrendous stomach cramps that leave me doubled over.
  25. Problem I've noticed is the sun. If it's a completely sunny day with no cloud then even in low 20s it can really heat upstairs and take an age to cool down especially if the bedroom is south or west facing and that's even if the night's end up cool as the night's are just too short now before the sun is up again. It's just not cool for long enough to put a dent in the day time solar heating. It's not so bad if it's been like the last few days with cloud mixed in as it's been hovering around 21-22C here upstairs today which is fine but ideally still prefer about 18-19C for a good rest. During that full week of hot weather last July it was 28-29C upstairs some nights, far too uncomfortable for me, some people may like that tropical feel but the duvet was well and truly retired to the wardrobe.
