Stunning day today got up to 14C here but in the light breeze and in the sun it felt a bit warmer than that. First day this Spring that the sun has had enough power to naturally warm the house. No heating needed. The next couple of days might be a bit chillier given there will be a stiff breeze especially tomorrow but I guess if you are out of that wind and in the sun it should still feel pleasant enough. Next week looking decent too. Make the most of it as in this region we aren't famous for the sun!

I've bought an air conditioner ready for this summer as last July it was often above 25C in the bedroom which for me is far too warm for a good sleep. Seemed to negatively effect my blood pressure too. Without any breeze even the window open made no difference with short nights. Strangely it was a better summer up north than down south. If we are going to get hotter/longer summers it makes sense to prepare I guess. Probably be coolest wettest on record now that I've bought one.

The weather on the tv saying take care in the sun this weekend for sun burn hmmm not so sure I've ever resembled a lobster in March. Maybe slightly more risk down south with the sun being a bit stronger there. Mid April onwards until early September prime time for sun burn for most folk in our region. I guess for red heads you may burn earlier and later in the year?

The changing daylight hours thread
Frost HoIIow replied to Boydie's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Yes we are almost in the lighter half of the year now. On the 18th the days become longer than the nights here and stays that way until 25th September. Usually after the 18th March the worst of winter is behind us but still cannot guarantee a snow cover free April such as last year. Had snow cover here just a few days off May in 2016 as well. Mind you it never lasts longer than a couple of hours in the stronger sun. -
Temp last night rose and by morning there wasn't much visible frost. Tonight looking too breezy for scraping the car but if you happen to be out, for whatever reason, then it'll feel darn cold with that breeze and also first thing tomorrow. Turning milder after tomorrow but there's going to be stiff breeze at times so probably not feeling like double figures.

A great day here - mostly sunny and pleasant enough out of the chilly breeze. A cold night in prospect and already down to 2.6C here after a high of 8.1C. But won't be long now until the days become longer than the nights and hopefully we'll start to get the first warm days not long after that and can forget about how dire this "winter" was with it's a couple of pathetic dustings. Just happy I had 4 inches of snow at the back end of November even though technically it wasn't winter. But it certainly looked and felt like it!

Yes the trees round here in 2013 were bare well into May because all 3 spring months were chillier than normal. 2018 wasn't as bad though as after the "mini beast" in mid March the rest of the spring was snowless and not very cold here. May was especially fantastic with some very warm days and maybe a sign of what was to come for the summer. Spring growth last spring was rather stunted though probably because of the notably cold April.

Still a decent amount of snow in Asahikawa in Japan on this webcam. Close to 2ft on the ground. Been very little melt at all since the permanent cover started in early December despite a UV of 4 and 5 in the past week too. This is a place about as far south as Marseille in France. This shows the power of consistently low temps and low dew points over-riding the sun strength. 旭川 | ライブカメラ | STV札幌テレビ WWW.STV.JP

China is biding their time like they've done for the past 40 years. They will take Taiwan eventually but for now they are seeing what Russia gets away with and the response they get. They've played the long game, patiently and steadily built up their economy from the late 70s/80s whilst staying out of the more recent wars and barely speaking out about American interventions. And made the world rather reliant on their goods. Now they are a powerful force economically and militarily. The Chinese aren't stupid.

Had snow here, big flakes and intense earlier this morning but not settling. 2-3C with snow falling just isn't cold enough for settling snow had it have been a few Celsius colder it would have settled. So my point stands unfortunately. We had a mixture of rain and hail too a few hours ago...all indicative of marginal conditions. Not good enough.
