  1. Perth is 31 degrees south of the equator though so it's about the same as Alexandria in Egypt which is 31 degrees north of it. Both places are relatively close to the equator and rarely chilly even in mid "winter". My sister's brother lived in Australia for 50 years and never saw a flake of snow in all that time until he passed on, he lived in Melbourne. Last time he saw any was when he was growing up in England.
  2. Not that long to go and we'll lose the lingering twilight by the end of the month across the southern slice of Northern England, just a few more weeks to get through and then Autumn slowly approaching
  3. Yes all to do with the positioning of the high, as of now it looks like dragging in NW winds and cloud, as usual far better in SE England. If it was further north we'd see a gradual build up of home grown heat up here too. Could still end up in that scenario further down the road as we're not in the reliable. As for today a heavy shower earlier got caught out in it whilst doing some errands in Oldham town centre.
  4. Looks very dark not far to the SE. Not surprising looking at the radar places like Stalybridge under a bright echo.
  5. Nothing of note really here today. Not got a rain gauge these days unfortunately but it must have rained quite a bit last night as I had to tip a load of water off the garden chairs this morning and empty some pots full of water.
  6. Yeah southern parts of the region are definitely wetter in the east. We get a lot more rain than say Liverpool and Blackpool. For Cumbria it's the reverse, places like Windermere in the SW part of the county is far wetter than Penrith & Kirkby Stephen situated to the east of the Lake District fells.
  7. Yes not a bad day after some rain earlier, the sun certainly has a kick to it, more than enough to warm up the home naturally. I say from late May to late July it's genuinely strong and the opposite from late November to late January.
  8. Not a bad day all in all so far. Windy but useable for walking, walked the dogs up to Hartshead pike and back. Was very gusty up there on the summit almost knocked me off my feet.
  9. Can hear distant thunder, looks like this shower is going to be a direct hit, finally.
  10. Still no appreciable rain fall here. Must be quite a dry anomaly around this area if it was on a map. Over the last few days everything has passed just a few miles either direction. Some quite intense downpours due south moving north looks like it has Wills name on it @WillinGlossop but we could be in the gap again here.
  11. Despite hardly a glimpse of sun all afternoon it's still 25C upstairs here. It's only dropped about a degree since yesterday. Had to have just a sheet on the bed again last night, far too warm for a duvet. I think the temp will slowly drop though from tomorrow.
  12. Hardly any rain yesterday and bone dry today (so far) showers just a couple of miles east and west of us and so the landscape is slowly looking a bit sun drenched round here but at least the grass hasn't grown much in 2 weeks due to it being so dry so I haven't had to tackle a jungle. So I'm not complaining
  13. Not a lot of rain here only just wetting the ground. God it really is difficult to get a decent thunderstorm in this region these days. Can remember regular ones years ago after a very warm day like today.
  14. Yes another decent day today, probably a notch warmer still tomorrow. Despite blinds and curtains shut it's risen to 26C upstairs after two days of almost unbroken strong sunshine we probably need blackout curtains though. I bought a portable A/C unit a few months ago but haven't caved into using it yet as this is not going to be a long lasting hot spell.
  15. Perfect conditions today summer solstice tomorrow and then we begin the long road to the winter one. No doubt by then it'll be 14C with a nasty unrelenting bartlett parked to our south. Come late March and into April freezing cold nirvana charts will begin to tentatively show their hand to rub salt into the wound when it's late. Standard stuff for good ol' blighty.
  16. Got down to 3.7C here this morning. Not unheard of though as in the past I've recorded an air frost in June but still low single digits is a bit unusual given it was very warm the other day and the short nights. July and August are the only months never to record an air frost here probably due to higher SST's despite the slightly longer nights. Looks like the airport got down to 6C https://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/weather/current/EGCC.html Sun is out now and feeling pleasant as I type this sat in the garden.
  17. A very nice place when the sun is shining, strong UV as it's amongst the most southerly points in the mainland, but as it's part of that narrow Cornish peninsula it's at the full mercy of the sea when it's raining and blowing a hoolie as it juts out near the Atlantic.
  18. Yes the rain has arrived here too but looks like it'll move through sharpish. Looking fairly dry again after today lasting until possibly next weekend. Monday-Thursday looking pleasantly warm into the low 20s.
  19. Haha yes the default weather barges it's way in. Didn't take long did it? I don't mind low 20s though so hopefully we can get something like that after tomorrow. Much rather have that than today Each to their own though.
  20. I'm not heat fan so I'm happy today was just a one day wonder up here. Already cooling down nicely out there now. Looks dreadful in east Anglia right now. 28C in Norwich at this time??
  21. We'll see but got July and August to get through first. Met office long range update looks good for warmth but this can chop and change as well. Not worth hanging your hat on it though.
  22. In the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't mean much though. One very warm day which only just brushed 28C won't be remembered amongst a lot of average or below average days. (tomorrow certainly looks below average temp wise). I'd be more impressed if we reached 29C upwards.
  23. At least where you are in Sholver come winter even in marginal situations you've got a far better chance of snow than most of us. Forget 150m where it's only a bit better but where you are is the real deal close to 300m. If I was younger I'd move up that end.
