  1. Good luck mate and take care of yourself getting to work. It's looking nasty to say the least and it's going to be a real struggle for everyone I reckon. I'd imagine the electricity grid will be taking a real battering with people trying to cool down. I bet the usage over Monday and Tuesday will be record breaking.
  2. Not looked at the models today but now have and you gotta be kidding me haha. These uppers are just crazy and which would equate to mid to upper 30s Celsius on the ground a bit later in the day. Certainly not walking weather unless you want heat stroke.
  3. And this is the reason we holiday down there in May because it can get ridiculously hot in summer in that part of France. 42C on it's way there.
  4. Looking increasingly likely now that we will see some very high temps and would not be surprised if local all time records were broken. The only surprising thing is it's taken 32 years to do so as that 33.7C at Manchester airport has stood since August 1990. Not looking forward to this spell at all. Have an A/C in the bedroom but not in the lounge which is west facing so in the afternoon it warms up like nobody's business. Unless your whole house has A/C then there's not going to be total relief for a lot of people unfortunately.
  5. Noticed the weatherman Alex Beresford (I think that's his name) on ITV hyping it up. Yesterday he said the all time record "would be broken" I was quite shocked for him to say that with such confidence that far out. Tonight he said 30% chance. It'll still be a very hot spell across a good chunk of England and Wales but probably not the furnace that was showing a few days ago.
  6. 21C at almost midnight here is a tad unusual. Must be stifling for those who live in apartments in Manchester city centre as you can add another few C onto that. As for the heat next weekend I'm going to wait a couple more days as I think by late Wednesday it'll be certain as to what happens but as of now the *potential* is there for a very memorable spell of weather. Not my cuppa tea as I'd rather it be -15C than 35C.
  7. Pretty toasty in Spain, Portugal and southern France Insane upper air temps too. I hear they've had some bad forest fires in Portugal over the last few days as that heat is building hope they've managed to douse them Dozens injured in Portugal wildfires as heatwave to intensify | Portugal | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM More than 3,000 firefighters battle blazes as EU offers emergency help and temperatures could hit 43C
  8. As others have pointed out a bit of toy throwing in the mod thread earlier just because we might not hit 40C+ darn sarf next Sunday/Monday. I still think a half way house will happen though. Probably low 30s up in our region at best and probably mid 30s London area. Plenty hot enough for most.
  9. Had it here many a time in this semi rural area of Greater Manchester. Depends how built up or rural an area of the city is. More open space and especially trees = higher likely hood of more rime frost. Most of Greater Manchester is heavily urbanised so it won't happen as often due to less wooded areas. But you'll definitely see it in the bigger parks with plenty of trees. Daisy Nook in Oldham, Heaton park in north Manchester for example. Seen it happen in those spots. Probably happens down in Plattfield park in Fallowfield as well.
  10. So glad I bought an A/C now. Earlier before I put it on it was 27C in the bedroom. Now it's a far more comfortable 19C. No more sweating. I figured if we are getting more & more of these hotter spells it might be handy getting one and it's been worth the £150.
  11. The potential is definitely there for next weekend but it's still a week out. The 20C isotherm in June was modelled early on to engulf us this far north with the last plume but instead it ended up staying in the channel. It started to backtrack about 4 days out so still time for this to go the same way. I reckon we'll have a halfway house scenario as in we'll see temps probably nudging 30C or early 30s here in our region and mid 30s in the SE. I'd be shocked if 40s was recorded, mind you this is optimal time now mid July to early August is the most likely time for records to get broken with the sun still very strong and not much loss of daylight yet.
  12. 24C here right now. Highly likely to be a few C higher tomorrow but it doesn't look like lasting as long as last July with that full week of hot weather when we had 7 consecutive days at or above 25C. Looking cloudier and cooler from Tuesday then possibly that surge of intense African air at the weekend to keep tabs on.
  13. Probably the most extreme charts I've ever seen on this forum cold or hot. Just astonishing if this came off but it keeps being wheeled out so cannot discount this. 27C uppers into the UK. 39C for the south of the region?! This would smash local all-time records by around 5 or 6C.
  14. Despite the media frenzy I don't think we're looking at anything unusually hot in the reliable. We have in the past seen temps close to 30C in May before. Probably 28C on Monday and Tuesday down Cheshire way. So far Manchester airport has only reached 25C once this summer. The most notable thing this summer has been how dry it's been but as @severe snowstormsays at least we've not had to cut the grass too often. Whilst not in the same league as 2003, 2006 and 2018 I think one summer that gets overlooked is 1999. It did bring some pretty toasty temps and overall wasn't far behind.
  15. Another repeat performance today cloudy start but brighter later and we've managed to get up to 21C. Monday & Tuesday looking very warm/hot for the south of the region in particular. Maybe a drop after that before we see temps climb again next weekend, long way off tho.
  16. And the only time they get snow is from the east. A rare beast indeed. At least up here we can get it from more than one direction, easterly or polar maritime, even if it is fleeting it's better than going a few years without seeing a covering which is common place down there.
  17. Dreary dull start but it's turned into a very nice afternoon just pleasantly warm, perfect. Not looking forward to the potential hot weather but no point in moaning about it. At least we've got a portable A/C unit to test it out.
  18. Long way out but wow this is nuts. 25C uppers nudging into Devon. Roasting up here too.
  19. It definitely depends on location in Greater Manchester. The airport is the "official" site of average rainfall for the city but down there is more or less Cheshire and in a drier spot. Places like Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside are all far wetter, Bolton and Bury not far behind. Basically the further north and east you go in the city the average rainfall increases.
  20. Yeah it's notable how it's rare they drop below 20C as a high in the summer. Noticed this going back through Heathrow's history on weatheronline. I'd call that a good summer without hesitation and for me warm enough for shorts and t-shirt every day. That kind of consistent warmth doesn't occur up here unless it's a 1976,1995 or 2018 style summer. Anyway I hope the Armageddon heat charts back off. High 30s/low 40s is of no use to anyone and would be a huge added strain on the health system.
  21. Not a bad day today, felt quite warm this afternoon although breezy. Looking further ahead a warm up still looks likely but how hot is just guesswork at the moment. But no doubt in this warming world it won't be long before we are thrown into the furnace.
  22. It's cloudier still up here compared to London, hardly saw the sun today. We once had cotton mills scattered all over Oldham and other adjacent towns because of the rain, and we get our water supply from the rain stored in the reservoirs on the hills nearby. Nice soft water. If I had a pound for the amount of times I travelled across the Pennines into Yorkshire to be greeted with sunshine on that side when on this side it was cloudy and rainy I'd be a rich man.
  23. Actually feels a bit chilly today in the wind and under the grey sky. July is supposed to be mid summer haha. We've had days in October that have felt a bit warmer than this.
  24. Looking likely now that things could warm up significantly starting from next weekend. Before then rather cool and a lot of cloud being dragged in by the high but it slowly moves north and east late in the week sitting right over us by weekend leading to much warmer and sunnier conditions. Possibly a repeat performance of last July with that full week of hot weather.
