Landing in Bristol airport during torrential rain has to be up there with the most depressing experiences you can possibly have
Certainly is, you cross over from France, over Exmoor, start to descend ,and there it is, a great big mass of bl...dy cloud, luckily I only have about 15 miles or so to travel, still have to get up at Stupid o Clock tomorrow morning though.
Dropped one b....ck though , haven't flown since Covid, and was unaware that Sleazy Jet had changed the rules on cabin bags, staying with friends in Spain for a week so shouldn't really be a problem .

I'm a happy Hector, off to sunnier climes tomorrow for a week, and then ,if the current output is to be believed , dry sunny weather here as well. It will make a nice change to be able to return to Bristol airport without it raining.

Can't decide which is worse a cold wet bank holiday or a warm, sunny one with young and not so young men sitting outside pubs getting drunk in the sunshine then singing football songs in the street, why can't the Brits enjoy the sun in civilised way like the French or Spanish.
Beers in, and the sense is out. I haven't ever been able to fathom the mentality myself.

Glad I shan't be here next week, it looks vile.

Off to Spain for a week on the 11th, hopefully a bit of sunshine, temps in the mid 20s, and a respite from this soul destroying garbage.

I reckon that to be a Television Weather Presenter in this country you need two University degrees, one in Meteorology. the other in Turd polishing. The latter one would certainly come in handy at this present moment. This poxy weather is enough to drive you to drink.

I find I'm getting up very early at the moment due to the very light mornings, so I think my body clock is already on BST.
Light mornings play havoc with my sleep patterns, oh well, only another seven months to endure.

Is that the case? These days, spring seems to be by far the most settled and sunny season, though admittedly April is the most reliable month. Summer, by contrast, has been a disappointment most years since 2007; autumn tends to be either cloudy and nondescript, or wet and stormy; and winter is generally mild, nondescript, and sometimes very dull and wet.
Must admit it certainly doesn't seem like it sometimes, I suppose my expectations might be a tad high after freezing my b.....cks off all winter working outside. Just get sick and tired of being wet, and cold by the time March comes along.

1 days sun and cloud and now we are doomed to cloud again. Sigh ... I detest this month
Must admit Spring isn't my favourite season to be honest Becca, Just seems to promise the earth in terms of things warming up , and generally delivers diddly squat most years.

Ever since this snow started, all my missus has done is to look through our lounge window.
I suppose I'd better think about letting her back in.

A good couple of inches of settled snow here in Shepton. Still coming down steadily.

Ain't nothing to get excited about for my location. Just seen Ians forecast
When I was a youngster, I had cousins living in WSM.
Living in Shipham myself at the time, 10 miles inland, and 500 or so feet above sea level made a huge difference. They hardly ever saw any in comparison.

My Dad used to say that the weather in this country is about as reliable as a baby's backside
When it comes to snow, and cold, it would appear that is more than the case.

We don't need the rain' is typically a phrase I associate with people who just don't like it and may be ignorant of or just not care about the potentially serious water shortages we could end up with
The only time excessive rain gets under my skin is if it stops me from working , and earning a living . Unlike most people, I only get paid for what I turn out in a day, and not for just turning up on time. A week or longer of that stuff hits me hard in the pocket sometimes.

I haven't found this winter to be too arduous to be honest. It's made a nice change not to be battered by low after low, and by and large people have been spared the misery of being flooded out.
At my age, I can take, or leave, snow, as long as it's dry, then I'm a happy boy.

Our reservoirs are full and over brimming in the Pennines so any more rain is fruitless until growing season
After the hot summer of 1976, I can remember talk of water being distributed via a national grid. 47 years later they're still scratching their heads and backsides.
Still, you can't rush the job I suppose. When you start getting on a bit, you realise that when it comes to government, they're all as useless and deceitful as one another.

Just ordered another half load of logs, still reckon I'll need them even if it's not a snowy armeggedon.

No rain, and feeling quite pleasant in the sunshine.
Quite happy to be honest.

As regards extreme cold weather , a news report of some poor old soul aged 92 sitting in her living room dressed in an overcoat, and covered in blankets because she could only afford £ 3.00 worth of power per day put it into perspective for me. It's like most things in life, insofar as such things generally depend upon your personal circumstances, and whether or not you have to personally have to put your hand in your pocket to pay the bills.

What was it? I forgot
A bit of wind blew me fence down one day, and one or two lost their ridge tiles as I recall . That was the most notable thing about it.

Think the major problem we have are that a lot of the older people who contribute did live through the 60's to 80's winters where especially up here it snowed every winter and was on the ground for a fair few days , living through the last 20 odd years or so it is becoming on the whole more of a rarity as the climate warms and high pressure gets established over the south and near continent in winter it is become more of a rarity especially the further south you are though there will always be exceptions where every once in a while we will get a longer cold spell. That's the reality of the world we now live in .
Having worked outside in the Building Trade on, and off since 1976 , I can honestly say that winters back then were much colder. 87 especially springs to mind as being absolutely perishing . Being at Primary School in the mid 60s I can recall snow on a far more regular basis than we now see.
Sadly , these days, there doesn't seem to be much to differentiate between Autumn, and what is supposed to be Winter.

For those who dream of epic snowfall and a 'real winter' I would say, never give up!
An account of the 1978 Great Blizzard across the south of England was published by Dorset Life in 2008:
The blizzard that buried Dorset | Dorset Life - The Dorset Magazine
WWW.DORSETLIFE.CO.UKThis was in mid-February in an otherwise 'normal' winter. Keep smiling
I remember it well, it was a few weeks short of my 18th birthday. Here in Somerset, we were absolutely buried.

Unless it snows, it's useless to me too. What's the use of cold weather if it disnae snow? And, in any case, aren't we now in winter 2023?
PS: Well, bugger me if it ain't snowing!!
Tend to agree Pete, a week or so of cold with a bit of snow for the youngsters ,no probs at all. I used to love it as a kid, and , I suppose part of me still does.
Just to have a break from this damnable rain will be a blessing. I'm lucky insofar as I'm getting close to retirement now, I really feel for younger people with mortgages, vans etc to pay for and families to support in all of this. We might get a covering here as well being about 580 feet a.s.l.
