  1. Seems to me that it is perfectly "usual" but that it is going to affect the south rather than the north. I've seen and heard nothing which doesn't sound like the weather we get in Autumn.
  2. Not that it affects me but if I lived nearby I'd be livid if they could disturb me at night when this has been known for such a long time. Either divert or don't take off in the first place.
  3. All fair comment but if its going to pass over the UK its going to hit us coming in, whilst its here and departing. The first two parts are clearly being given a lot of attention, no point telling us whats going to happen on the way out after the fact! All three stages should be given sufficient comment. I feel that the latter isn't at present. Clearly, the detail will emerge with more confidence in due course but as someone who has been keeping a close eye on this the last 24 hours, I feel this is a glaring omission from the discussion.
  4. What I mean is - it is highly likely the track of the storm will be within a confined area and it is right and proper that those areas have warnings out. The storm doesn't lose its potency because its no longer affecting the built up areas of the south east - it will impact on coastal areas on the east of the country. The warnings are very generic in this regard. It seems as per that the south is in for a battering and nothing will happen elsewhere. Always the same.
  5. I'm starting to get somewhat irritated by the lack of comment on this from professional forecasters. Why aren't the Met Office stating this explicitly in their warnings?!
  6. Thanks for that, helps me get my head around the situation a bit.
  7. Can anyone help me understand this...? This afternoon, Netweather suggests there will be Cape of 1249 j/kg and an LI of -4 yet there is 0% chance of a storm. I'd always understood that the higher the cape value and the more negative the LI value, the greater risk of a storm. Is this correct? If so, is the issue here that there needs to be a trigger but that one is unavailable? We currently have a band of rain approaching the area so i'd have thought that would serve as such. What am i not understanding here?
  8. Reports on FB that thunder and lightning has been observed around the Teesside. Billingham Hartlepool Redcar So far, apparently. Just starting to rain here in Saltburn, sky looks heavy - would be surprised if there was no storm activity in it.
  9. That's awesome and, judging by the NW radar, might head in our direction this evening!
  10. Any thoughts about these showers/storms heading further up the North East coast?
  11. We were surrounded by storms in the last hour but nothing came close. We've not had a drop of rain for weeks!
  12. Nothing here on the coast although the sky is turning darker. Looks like the main ppn is going to miss us here. I'm hopeful the line off Scarborough intensifies and reaches us.
  13. Seem to have beefed up a lot between 2145 and 2200 but on a collision course for Hull it would appear. Positive sign though!
  14. I lived down there and there were a couple of big 'uns around 2002. I watched lightning striking the radio antennae outside of Borehamwood one night, amazing. The other was on an afternoon and overwhelmed the drains so loads of roads flooded.
  15. Something to the SW of Hull just appeared.. is that what you meant?
  16. I like your optimism, lets hope so. I'm about 30 miles south of you so if it heads this way i'll keep you posted!
  17. No comment! My interest is where this storm heads once its passed Sheffield. Looks like they're heading out over Lincoln and Hull but XC weather shows the wind coming in off the sea. So where's it going to go? Anyone?
  18. A few weeks ago we had a small storm pass over. For around 48 hours before the Met Office had predicted it. Inexplicably, when the storm had formed, they changed our forecast to "cloudy". It was only after the storm had passed they updated our area back to storms. Needless to say, there were no more after that. Take it with a pinch of salt!
  19. Thank you. I can live with 50/50 for now. I don't even mind it being out to sea as long as I can watch it from the shore! I used to live in Tyneside but missed the large storm last year. That said, I remember an incredibly intense one around 2006 and have a feeling that was of the same intensity so would be looking forward to that. Will be monitoring as these events unfold. Nice to even have the possibility at this point!
  20. Tomorrow is looking really interesting for the East Coast judging by that. Does the 1400 storm over Hull move north over North Yorks, Teesside and Tyneside as appears to be the case? What is the confidence level for this happening and in the location suggested? What should people in the area expect being such an intense and large area?
  21. Thanks. This seems to indicate these values reaching the North East Coast this evening. What is the consensus about the risk here? I note that none of the sites (BBC, Meto and Netweather) seem to think there is a high probability of storms here. Is that likely to change as times progresses?
  22. Does anyone know where one might find the actual pollen count? ISTR it being expressed as a number in the past, now it seems we can only find forecasts showing it categorised.
  23. Last week they had a 85% of storms here up to and including the day they were meant to happen. Wasn't a drop of rain within 100 miles!
  24. Just up the road in Saltburn its been snowing on and off all evening. Its odd though, the snow looks like shards of glass sticking out of whatever its settled on. I know its been coming down very wet - almost like falling slush but this is a new one on me.
  25. Over the last few hours the snow has gone from small grainy stuff to small flakes, it looks like its getting better, not worse.
